Rovers fans gutted! :D

I like the way they try to say Saints are not a big club. In our worst season ever last year we still had an average of over 17k people.

With the complete and utter **** on display and with the garbage chairman and managers etc that is pretty decent. If things go well for the club we can get that up to 20k+ this year. Where as Rovers have an average of just 7k.....Now that is not me be-littleing Bristol just it shows the club has both more fans and a bigger stadium.

For our 1st game in league one we had 21k turn up, Rovers had 7k, that is 3 times more people. For League One Saints are a big club. For the Championship we are a top 6 club based on attendences.

So in terms of say Man Utd we are not a big club, but in terms of League One we deffinatly are.

we are a bigger club than many in the CCC or League 1 but lets not foget where we are right now!

In 2003 we have something like the 10th highest attendance for the season in England - so you could argue we are in the top 10!

Certainly we should be in the top tier on potential - but we're not!

A good cup run helped though!

Bristol Rovers suffer from having two clubs in Bristol - but as a city its about the same size as Southampton

Does anyone else get really embarrassed when they see our fans posting on other club's message boards? It seems like our fans always act like we have the divine right to be a big club. It is the pinnacle of cringe.

We don't have a divine right to be a big club. But having suffered the way we have over the past few seasons generally the fans have stuck by the club. The fact as i mentioned above even being relegated, having two dutch nobodies and a chairman hated by most getting 17k+ is pretty good going. The fact we can do that when at our worst shows we have a solid fanbase. When things go well as also mentioned we have the ability to nearly double that number. And that to me is what makes a big club. Not the fact you got loads of money to spend on players but the fact people actually support you and turn out to see you. Not many clubs in this country can get 20k+ people to come see you play in League One. If some of the supposed big teams in the prem league were down at this level i wonder if they could get those numbers.

Interesting, Lennie Lawrence's quote on the BRFC OS.

"I don't begrudge Rickie in the slightest, but people have to understand the situation that we faced. Rickie is, deservedly, the highest paid player in the history of Bristol Rovers Football Club by a long way and Southampton have doubled his wages.

2:15 to 2:38 in that video is absolutely class! Reminds me of MLT! :D

some of the goals in that vid its hardly suprising they are gutted to lose him. Hopefully he can continue that form withus and step up even further. We need people to get us out of this division and push us forwards in the CCC.

That doesnt suggest we are paying massive wages. To me it looks like BR have never pushed the boat out and this guy was just more expensive than anyone else they had. The rest could have been on £20 per week and he was on £25 per week for all we know

To be fair an extra fiver is hardly a "life changing move."

but if we have doubled his wages which by our standards were pi ss poor then it will be life changing to him but still reasonable to us?

I got no idea what money he is on but does anyone believe he will be on anything like the wages of Saga, Raz, KD, Perry, Thomas or Holmes?

With 2 main teams in Bristol you could argue that each club could have a population of 208200 which puts us as the bigger club ;)

In terms of attendances, last season against Bristol City we certainly were:

Southampton 13,257(min) 27,228 (max) 17,866(av) 410,936(total)

Bristol City 15,304(min) 18,456(max) 16,816(av) 386,780(total)

Bristol Rovers 5,870(min) 10,293(max) 7,170 (av) 164,923(total)

But Bristol's total attendances for both teams were 551,703.

Just as well Bristol is divided by two clubs.

According to their forum, he was on £5k a week!

Heard that we had offered him 10k p/w, so i guess that's true.

TBH if rasiak is going (which i guess he will now) it's not any additional strain on the wage bill, I'd even suggest he may be cheaper in terms of goals/games bonuses.

anyone got an idea of what raz and saga are on? im guessing its more than 10k per week so again by our own standards 10k is not overdoig anything. if this guy can bag the goals like he did last seaon then its 10k per week week spent IMO

Rasiak is on 10k iirc, but that is near on 18k apparently when you take into account goal bonuses/appearances. You can understand why Lowe wanted him off the wage bill tbf.

GB did seem to like doing that...offering a hefty wage and then beefing it up even more with all these additional bonuses. Think you'll find this is a reason players like Euell etc didn't feature at the start of the season, even though they were fit. We just couldn't risk paying the bonuses!

I feel sorry for the majority of the Rovers fans, they have just lost their best player to a side who are in the same league as them. Just imagine how we'd have felt if Kelvin signed for Leeds. (I seem to remember he was linked there before West Ham)

I wish Rovers a good season.

I do too, although delighted as a Saints' fan that we have got him. I also wish them a decent season. THE team in Bristol IMO!!

I can kind of feel for them - we've been in their position for years, losing our better players. It's great to be on the otherside though i must admit.

But at the end of the day it's about ambition and money, and thankfully we have both right now.

Looks like we now have someone who knows where the goal is. Loved the volley at about 2mins 30 secs in, dropping right downalmost vertical he certainly knows how to volley a ball that's for sure.

You're absolutely spot on - the volley against Luton was top draw ! I also liked the fact that he seems willing and capable of shooting from outside the box.

I agree - the time when we were arrogant hopefully has passed. Feel sorry for Rovers fans, they have lost a hero and although dog eats dog these days let's at least have a bit of humility.

Looks like its not just rovers fans who are reacting. Blackpool fans are bemoaning the unfairness of it all - how we can be within a c*ck-hair of going out of business and then splash 7 figures on a quality player. ignorance and sour grapes....

Do these people have no access to any media??? maybe not in Blackpool
