skintsaint Posted 13 August, 2009 Posted 13 August, 2009 Need to play wingers with Rasiak and Lambert up front.

Mills on the bench for either Thomson or Gobern.
saints_is_the_south Posted 13 August, 2009 Author Posted 13 August, 2009 Would go with that XI but with James wide right and Lallana wide left. Mills on the bench for either Thomson or Gobern. Forgot about Mills, put him on the bench in place of Gobern. If Mills is fit then we could start him on the left, James on the right & then Lallana & Schnerderlin in the middle in a diamond formation.
Northam Girls Posted 13 August, 2009 Posted 13 August, 2009 (edited) Would like to see -----------------Davis Murty-----Thomas-----Perry-----Harding ------------ Schneiderlin James------------------------Mills ---------------Lallana --------Lambert-----Paterson Bench - Poke, Lancashire, Gillett, Thomson, Gobern, Rasiak :-) Edited 13 August, 2009 by Northam Girls
Matthew Le God Posted 13 August, 2009 Posted 13 August, 2009 You don't need to use ------------Davis etc Use code instead like this Davis Murty Thomas Perry Harding James Schneiderlin Wotton Lallana Lambert Rasiak Not the team I would pick but what it will probably be with Pardew picking it. I'd have Simon Gillett instead of Paul Wotton and Joseph Mills (on the left) in for James if he is fit.
S-Clarke Posted 13 August, 2009 Posted 13 August, 2009 ---------------------Davis-------------------- Murty-------Perry-------Thomo-------Harding James-----Schnerderlin----*New* ----Holmes --------------------Lallana------------------- ------------------- Lambert---------- Don't think Rasiak will play on Saturday because of the interest in him, and i think we'll have another decent signing by Sat - a good enough player to go straight in as well IMO.
SuperMikey Posted 13 August, 2009 Posted 13 August, 2009 What i'd pick: Davis Murty Thomas Perry Harding James Schneiderlin Gillett Lallana Rasiak Lambert Subs: Bialkowski, Lancashire, Mills, Thomson, Wotton, Saganowski, Paterson No width in that squad at all, but imo that is close to our best XI. Would like to see a new CB playing instead of Perry because I think he's too old to be able to play a full season at his best for us now and I doubt that Lancashire is good enough at the moment to step into the frame. Mainly used that formation to showcase Lallana in his best position, he can be a great player for us this season if played properly and in the right position. Also, James doesn't have the pace to be played on the wing, and he is strong in the tackle, so playing him at defensive midfield would allow him to cover for our defence and act as a 5th defender during attacks. Would also like to see slightly more articulate play from Harding and Murty in respect to defensive clearances. I cringed every time they hoofed the ball out of defence straight back to the opposition, so maybe we could implement a 'build it up from the back' strategy? Schneiderlin is a great passer of the ball, so if he came to collect the ball from defence more often we could actually spring some decent attacks rather than wasting possession. I also really hope that Rasiak stays, because it seems that him and Lambert up front together worked very well on Tuesday, and i'm sure that they could both score at least 15 goals this season each if they stayed. Otherwise, it's not such a big loss, because if Saganowski stays then we still have a lot of quality available. Also, on the subject of Matt Patterson, i'm not too sure about him. He puts himself about a lot, definately, and he scares defenders a bit, but I don't see anything about his game apart from his work rate that would make me play him over somebody like Rasiak or Saganowski. He doesn't have the technical ability that Rasiak and Saga do, and he's not exactly got pace to burn either. I think for this season at least, he should remain as a substitute or time-to-time starter, not a first team regular.
derry Posted 13 August, 2009 Posted 13 August, 2009 Two big forwards, and bloody narrow formations allowing the opposing defence to compact and freeze them out. Eventually the penny will drop, to cut through defences we have to have players playing down both the touchlines and crosses from the byeline. The three goals we have scored have come from wide, A Murty throw in v Millwall, two crosses from the right. We have created nothing down the left. Because there is nobody playing there.

Lumping the ball forward and playing through the middle creates a 'hopeful'' game. i.e - lucky goals and not enough wins to storm the league.
Appy Posted 13 August, 2009 Posted 13 August, 2009 Really looking forward to this one. Hopefully it will be well worth the long trip.
dune Posted 13 August, 2009 Posted 13 August, 2009 I can't wait to go. I really fancy us to win this game. Come on everyone get your arses up to huddersfield.
S-Clarke Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 An interesting side note...was just looking at a few Huddersfield forums....and they're speculating that newcastle have asked for permission to speak to Lee Clark....
West End Saint Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 I dont think we need wholesale changes just Perry in for Olly and Raza & Lambert to start up front the lads that have played so far have done well I know it would be a bit harsh to drop Patterson to the bench but Raza looked sharp midweek and he needs to be in shop window to secure the bid that is expected would be nice if he could sign off on a high and bang a couple in & help us get a much neede 3 points. I think it will be a close game I am going for 2.1 Saints COYR
badgerx16 Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Really looking forward to this one. Hopefully it will be well worth the long trip. Not long for some of us Mind you, home games are a drag
doc oli Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Can you buy on the gate on the day? How many of the 2000 have been sold?
The Godfather Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Id play mills and James wide with lallana off lambert. Lallana will become a problem if we keep trying to fit him in out wide. Mills is still injured.
Toadhall Saint Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Another tough game. Hopefully we'll sneak it tho'.
yorkie Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Where are the youth drinking tomorrow...so I can avoid them?
callysaint76 Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Id play mills and James wide with lallana off lambert. Lallana will become a problem if we keep trying to fit him in out wide. yeah, with morgan and gillet in the middle that would work nicely. Plus still Melis and Rasiak to come off the bench to add pace and poaching skills respectively.
CougarSaint Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Yes,you can, checked with HTAFC ticket office this morning...
CougarSaint Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Can you buy on the gate on the day? How many of the 2000 have been sold? Soz. that was an answer to this. What is this new fangled interweb thingy anyway?
Nineteen Canteen Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Need to play wingers with Rasiak and Lambert up front. I really don't think we need or should play Rasiak. He clearly wants away and so his commitment is questionable and providing all is well with Lambert and Patterson why play him as these two clearly represent our future.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Where are the youth drinking tomorrow...so I can avoid them? McDonalds?
Arizona Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 I'd go with: Davis Murty Thomas Perry Harding James Lallana Morgan Mills Rasiak Lambert
Nineteen Canteen Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Another tough game. Hopefully we'll sneak it tho'. Looking at their home stats for last year I think you are right it will be a very tough game as they quite a good record (W9 D8 L6) and had their away from been a bit better they could have easily made the play offs eventually finishing in 9th. Perhaps more worryingly they seem to have had a very good run in their pre-season friendlies with only one defeat a 1-0 loss vs Newcastle. They have also just signed a promising Man Utd youngster on loan to mitigate our new trump card. Given that Pardew is still trying to organise his squad I think it's a big ask to go and get any result tbh and I think we will be beaten. Even if we get a draw IMO that would be a significant achievement and hope they can pull it off but as things stand at the moment I'm expecting a defeat on our way to achieveing mid table mediocrity for this season.
Bailey Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 I wouldn't go with this side, but this is what I expect it to be: Davis Murty Thomas Perry Harding James Wotton Morgan Lallana Rasiak Lambert Subs: Bialkowski, Lancashire, Gillett, Thomson, Mellis, Holmes, Paterson
penchant Posted 14 August, 2009 Posted 14 August, 2009 Town fan here and in peace as always. You will find us a lot more penetrating than Millwall going forwards, but a lot more penetrable defending. For this reason I see it being a reasonably high scoring game and I would go for 3-2 or perhaps 4-2, but I haven't a clue who will win. Have a safe journey and bring plenty so that we can make this an early season spectacular! Bon chance!

Holmes would be able to get plenty of quality crosses in for the front two. If MIlls is fit he would be another option. Both would offer a very good alternative to having every decent attack come down the right hand side

Saints foreva Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Can't say I'm confident going into this one...
NY Saint Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 I do feel confident going into this. We've beaten a poor Northampton side when we were finding out feet and drew with a strong Millwall side when we were even less sure of ourselves. We're a step closer to where we need to be and have two new signings. Going to win 2-0.
Saint_clark Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Leaving in 15 minutes, see you all up there!

Seems like putting in a bet then more then 5 goals in this game is on its way now : ) Good luck to you to - but please let us win - we are on -9 you know ; )
ladysaint Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Just starting the first leg of long journey to Huddersfield, funnily I still feel the same excitement as I did on my first away match 40 years ago and cant explain why.
St.Patrik Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Have a nice day out now Janet. Hopefully will you drive home with 3 points and a smile on your face : )

dubai_phil Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 (edited) Have a great trip gang! Would expect to see Davis Murty Thomas Perry Harding James Wotton Schneiderlin Lallana Patterson Lambert Rasiak has only had 30 minutes this season so probably too early for a start, Pato puts it about and should create the damage for Raziak to exploit later on. Bench Bart Meilis Rasiak Saga Gillett Lancashire Gobern Assuming that Mills & Holmes still carrying niggles only decision would be between Thompson & Saga for the bench If he had been signed earlier I would like to see our Jermaine Jenas clone at RM with James taking over from Wotton until Gillett is match fit Should be a good day out, but I have us down for a defeat today as I think we are still learning the shape and tactics Edited 15 August, 2009 by dubai_phil
thorpie the sinner Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 I think I plumped for 1-1 here! Point good result
ericofarabia Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Shortly setting off, only a relatively short journey from Lancashire for me, but plenty of pre match drinking to be done :smt047:p Got my I Spy book of Yorkshire at the ready:- Old Blokes wearing flat caps and smoking woodbines sat on park bench, ferrets, racing pigeons, whippets, etc , sign posts ending in Thwaite, shops with good old English names such as Ramsbottom, Higginbottom and Patel Hope the locals are as friendly as my last visit to Yorkshire 2 years ago (Barnsley) but a slightly better result, although a draw again would be quite creditable, I feel the bar (my expectations anyway !) has been raised somewhat, would be ok. Hope someone posts a good match report later, in case my memory is slightly jaded It will be a bit embarrassing for me as I don't think I'll recognise any of the players on the pitch ... I'll be the one going 'go on lad', 'well done my son' etc  COYS

Well said..........We have no width and can't understand the strategy. We have no out let tp pass to because all our players are the very congested area of the pitch. We are 'grinding' it out at the moment........
oggiee Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Why is Holmes not in the squad? I've always rated him when i've seen him play, and I thought he was over his most recent injury as he was on the bench in mid-week.
badgerx16 Posted 15 August, 2009 Posted 15 August, 2009 Just about to set off, it's pee'ing it down and blustery here, so assuming it's the same on the 'dark side'. Hoping for a good game, nontheless. COYR !!!!!
