Nowhere near good enough. Even without the minus 10 we'd still be 3rd from bottom! Absolute rubbish. Needed to hit the ground running but we've done the opposite. Pardew has been here long enough to have influenced things but we seem to be going backwards if that is possible.

I disagree.

(ohh, Trotts out - DECLARED 373-9)

sorry, I digress.

Now I disagree. Pards has had to build late, once the season has started, the whole team needs a bit more time. And - as an armchair fan - we are sounding A LOT BETTER than last year.

44 games to go...

EDIT: gave England an extra 6, sorry.

Well i was there and didn't think it was anywhere near as bad as some above... Very frustrating result but i saw a lot more potential and we matched them physically, which we haven't done much of this season.

Width and pace are the key things missing, but there was plenty to build on today IMO.

I would have thought Brentford was one of our more easier games given our squad of players - what worries me is how many points we are going to get away to Charlton, Leeds, Millwall, Tranmere etc.

I am worried:(

Woah there, does that mean you're looking for promotion this season. If that's the case your worries are due to yourself, not Saints. Consolidation this year, NOT promotion.

I have always maintained that we should have got rid of the enitre f**king squad to cleanse the club of it's dreadful losing culture when the takeover occured and started again from scratch.

Results like this do nothing to convince me I was wrong...

Why is it that out of the three clubs who have been recently taken over (ish) by a billionaire (Man City, us and Notts County) we are the team who is STILL **** poor.

Because we were **** to begin with, the other 2 already had a fairly established squad.

Aye ... new owners ... new manager. Only thing that hasn't changed over the last few years is us.

So .... FANS OUT !!

I think I'll take the word of someone who was there rather than the knee-jerk reactions of people who weren't.

This was always going to take time.

So would you have got rid of Davis? As I wasn't at the game today I can't comment, but on the evidence of what I saw last Tuesday, he is part of the problem. Great shot stopper and clearly has kept us in games so far, but still maintain his nervousness/positioning at corners, and his shocking kicking and distribution mean he contributes to the problems. Not a popular view I know, but I can only comment on what I see.

AP said when he took the job that its going to be a slow process........the lack of patience of some fans is beyond belief!!..........People need to get real and accept that this season will be a scrap to stay in this league.........anything else is pure fantasy........hopefully get out of minus points by mid October and perhaps off the bottom by January........that is realistic!

Physically we were better today, we seemed to cope with their threat.

It will take us time, but we're getting ''better''.

The millwall performance was built on adrenalin....i always felt the real state of the team would show in the up and coming games...and it has. We're getting there though. Slowly though, granted...

Just frustrated that we couldn't see it out again though.

I agree with what is said though, the glaringly obvious problem with this side is the frightening lack of pace. We just do not trouble the oppo enough by getting in behind them.

And please sent Thomson out on loan, he's just ridiculously lightweight.

I went, it was a shambles. No cohesion anywhere on the pitch. Unfortunately you can't have luxury players on the pitch and Lallana is just to lightweight and lacks impact unless off the bench.

Needs to play with some width and have someone who can get to the byline. Lambert needs something to go on!

It is a poor result but not surprising after witnessing the team first hand at Swindon on Tuesday night. We could have lost 4-5 nil to a very average side. Anyone who still thinks we are promotion contenders and can make the play offs is deluded. Pardew and the team need time and the fans need to be patient.

It is going to be one long season and the sooner than -8 is gone the better!

I was at Swindon and this was much better. A centre back who was commanding and mobility in central midfield with Hammond. KD was rarely tested. MS disappointed though and probably found the opposition more than his teammates trying to play too many 'killer' balls..

Hammond's cross to the far post for Lambert to nod back for Harding was class. I can now see why Jake Thompson isn't a regular as he doesn't track back too well and their goal started down our right flank.

I agree with those that say we need a pacy forward to compliment Lambert because our options are limited.

Lloyd James + Jake Thompson.

These two are why we lost the game. Thompson offered nothing when he came on, and was at fault for not closing the bloke down. James was equal at fault, do NOT LET YOUR MAN RUN PAST YOU!!!!!!!

The marking was awful for the goal, two men on the line, go to the man and stop him from heading it in the first place??

Really didn't look like much insperation out there, Brentford didn't help with jusst there hoof tatics.

We also need people who will play on the wing and cross the ball in, plus a new striker.

Thomson always makes me thing of Bambi - he's looks as nervous and scared as a baby dear caught in headlights - and about as lightweight as well

James cannott play right back - makes far too many positional mistakes and lacks the pace to cover for them

We are totally lacking in any ideas or creativity. When we have the ball in midfield we look absolutely clueless of what to do with it. So we usually play it in the air.

Dreadful again today, but don't agree at all with the above poster who says James didn't play well. Him and Harding (yet again) were the only ones who played well and can be pleased with themselves after today.

what a f88king load of s88t cant hold onto a one goal lead, with 15 minutes to go, typical Saints, no excuses about being in a negative mentality we had 5ish new players on the field so that isnt a valid excuse, the team may be gelling but we have the best GK in the league Harding who is by far one of the best players in the league Lambert who apparently should score for fun and so called proven League 1 players in Hammond and co.

No strength on the wings, Lallana was useless and we should sell to anyone who is silly enough to offer, i was always a fan of Thomson but he was dire, Gobern was left out when he was looked most threatening when he came of the bench against Millwall and Northampton.

GOD THAt felt good!

Awful performance against a terrible Brentford side.

We were the better team in terms of chances and I think that Kelvin only had to do one save in the first half - yes they hit the post but they didn't really look like scoring. Well that was until we took the lead anyway.

We really need another striker, Paterson was terrible today and an experience striker would have done better with that chance he had in the opening minute. He even had a couple of half chances where his legs got in the way of eachother.

We need to work on our corners, Lallana is awful at them and I reckon Morgan/Hammond would do alot better.

Oh well, at least we will win more games in League Two.

Better than the swindon performance but thats not saying much...at all really..

Two stand out plus's however, Trotman = hard as **** and wins everything

Harding = the best left back since Bale.

Lambert looked a bit pants if im honest, paterson didnt look up to it at all, really poor first half from him.
