Not signing anyone?

we will be fine..I must be in a small percentage (a negative one) that think we have a good squad and very good players for this league..

Well I'll join you in that small percentage though I do think there is every chance of at least one signing tomorrow and maybe Jaidi thereafter. Would not expect much to happen over a BH weekend which I believe is the reason the deadline is actually tomorrow and not today.

Don't be disheartened just because we've heard nothing today. Hardly anything has happened today at all for anyone in the world, just speculation pretty much.

Remember as well - we've only heard about our players when they've pretty much almost signed, the club has so far kept all potential signings well under wraps until the day it's announced - so that will not change.

Tomorrow will be one of the busiest last days for a long time IMO - and i'm sure we'll be involved in it.

We need 4 players - we will probably sign 1.

Lets hope its someone good (and they stay fit) or roll on relegation fight.

3 max.

CB / Striker / Winger

Murty injury isn't apparently as bad as first feared, looking at weeks apparently. (was on solent last week)

Even if we do just sign 1 more, we will not be in a relegation fight come may. I'll happily bet my job on it.

I reckon Schneiderlin will leave plus 2/3 younger ones out on loan (Lancashire, White, maybe Gobern etc..)

We will get another CB (probably Jaidi), replace Rasiak with a pacy forward man (maybe Gradel) and spring a surprise with a top loan from a CCC club (maybe Reading).

You heard it here first .........

David Mooney possibly, someone i heard mentioned weeks and weeks ago when Pards first came here.

It's possible that we spoke to Reading about a couple of their strikers, when they were after Greg.

Would make sense anyway. Mooney was on loan at Norwich back end of last year, scored a few goals iirc.

How will you feel if by 5pm tomorrow we dont sign anyone?

Suicidal. I may never recover.

I'll probably have to go off work with stress for a week or so and I'll be lucky if I don't harm myself in some hideous way.

The bird will be given the car keys and all sharp implements, as well as all my ties and belts.

I will be miffed if we don't sign anyone, and it will have been a day wasted watching SSN and doing eff all, but that's about it.

Most of the footballers listed by people on the HCDAJFU fred are still on free transfers anyway, and can be brought in at any time. Plus the emergency loan window is open and we can start to raid the talented youth teams of the big boys. Or perhaps persuade the only talent Portsmouth have left to rip up their contracts and join us...

Disappointed and looking forward to a long hard season

For sure, I won't be surprised. Who will come here now that the French Boss has said publicly that France will not consider L1 players for national teams. If not France then certainly not Eng-er-land. I'm afraid it's make do and mend time all over again.

Promises, promises as always. We must be the biggest mugs on earth to keep swallowing all the bullshype that comes out of St Mary's. Let's face it we may be solvent but we ain't got the mullah to buy anybody worth having and if £1m is what it takes to get a donkey like Lambert, who we good afford anyway?

You will get slated for calling Lambert a donkey.

He is a bit though

Like Rasiak with a bigger chest, better in the air, worse on the deck

What hype is that exactly? As for Lambert 29 goals last season is not bad for a donkey. Just imagine if he was any good well then he might get 30 goals. Every post I can remember of yours in recent times is so negative and that along with using the name of one of our all time greats is why I remember. What exactly would make you happy? Spending £20m on some over rated PL player maybe but then again I doubt even that would be enough. I'm really baffled as to why people suddenly assume we have money to burn and I certainly cannot remember that anyone within the club suggested we had.

I wouldn't be surprised if no more come in this window. ML's spent close to 20-30mil buying the club and clearing the debts. He's had a pretty expensive summer, all in. A few more loans would probably do us short term, then see where we're at in the Jan window.

Obviously I'd like a few more diamonds, but I'm content with the fact that I have a team in Red and White tbh. Even if they're eeking out the points 1 by 1.

It's not the best, but it's better than the summer and that's enough for me.

This is Saints - we are Saints fans and we have become used to mediocrity and low ambition from previous regimes. Therefore I expect nobody else to come in.

However, in my mind these are the times when I look to Markus and Nicola to excite me and remind me that they are the new future of Saints. It is now that they can REALLY start to say - we're here and we're making a real difference for our supporters by showing some real intent. In this sense, I am hopeful.

Real intent though might not mean names of players we have heard of. Who had heard of Trotman before he arrived, yet he seems to be a fantastic player at this level. There's no point paying for superstars in L1 when decent players costing a lot less could still get us out of this league. I think NC has said that they will spend appropriately for each division we're in and I think that makes sense. Still, like you, I remain (naively) hopeful.

Completely agree P&M. I have stated before that its not about the money spent - its about the quality of the player in relation to the job at hand....i.e. the type of player needed to perform a particular task at the level being played at. It might also mean allowing the salary bill to expand a bit more to enable new players to come in before being able to off-load deadwood because contracts cannot be terminated.

That's why I think Lallana, Mellis and Schneiderlin are luxury players that we cannot afford right now. We need pace and body strength on the wings and up-front and these guys do not provide that atall and they have been making up 30% of the team since day one. Something has to change for the squad to click more than it is and that is a new experienced striker and at least one winger. Actually, to think a bit radically, I think I would rather see Lallana played up with Lambert than see him on the wing.

I agree, but obviously I'd like to sign some more players too.

IMHO, the reality is that players of any "Quality" simply do NOT want to sign for a Div 1 Team still struggling on - 7 points

At BEST we may get some loans, but even that is doubtful now that The French U21 Manager has vetoed Div 1

That scenario does not give Pardew any Leeway at all:cool:

Very good point. Although id like to think he set asaide the famous "WAR CHEST" for the new gaffer.

Depends what you mean by "quality" though.

If you mean, players from Prem costing millions, then forget it.

If you mean a player that has some skill and pace, is experienced in this league and can handle himself against tough opposition, then yes this is perfectly feasible. Money will only come into the equation when trying to persuade a player to come here in terms of salary/perks. There are some good players out there on frees.
