Fitzhugh Fella Posted 21 September, 2009 Share Posted 21 September, 2009 I noted that Marcus Liebherr is in the squad picture in tonight's Echo. No problem with that at all - in fact I welcome it as it shows he is keen to be associated with us publicly but I was wondering if he goes to all the home games and has he been spotted at any away games? Perhaps Morph or anyone else near the director's box could enlighten me? Was he there for our first win? As Gobern is not in the squad photo I assume that the picture must have been taken recently which means ML has been here at least once in the last fortnight. The keener he gets the better we will be for it I reckon. Also does anyone know anything about Jack Saville who is in the back row? I missed any previous mention of him. Thanks

Matthew Le God Posted 21 September, 2009 Share Posted 21 September, 2009 (edited) As long as he doesn't turn up to training in a tracksuit with his initials on like Rupert Lowe did I don't care. A chairman that saves the club and invests lots of cash can appear in as many team photos as he wants imo As for Jack Saville- why don't you type his name into google or look on the player profiles on the OS? There were plenty of things to criticise Lowe for but, in my opinion, the rabid mob didn't help their cause by picking on trivialities (I'd include boardroom carpets, jogging with the squad, pictures of trains and a million more in that assessment). Fitzhugh Fella Posted 21 September, 2009 Author Share Posted 21 September, 2009 And where, when and how the Oldknow connection came about ? I spoke to Andy Oldknow on Friday and he said no one was more surprised than himself to be back at St Marys so I think his input into ML's purchase of us to be minimal at best. Actually I was very impressed with his enthusiasm for the future and he was very clued up as to the 125th anniversary next year. He was a lot more relaxed/positive than when he was here last year and he seems to be genuinely keen to be part of our success story. It was good to be able to start to trust the people now running our club tbh.

Give it to Ron Posted 21 September, 2009 Share Posted 21 September, 2009 me too, this is the question I would have asked at the forum if I could attend. Why did ml decide to invest? He said because it was a good investment opportunity with us being where we are now and the opportunity to take us back to the Prem ....where the big money is. Give it to Ron Posted 22 September, 2009 Share Posted 22 September, 2009 Do you really think we can compete in the Premiership if and when we return with the club in its current state without a huge amount of investment both on and off the field But the club won't be in the current state when we return will it! Come on John - no-one thinks we are anywhere near that yet. In fact AP made it clear last night that we are trying to return the squad to the level it was last year after losing 4 very good players - he named Surman and McGoldrick as he watched the re-run of last years Preston game - which I thought a bit odd. We are starting to get the infrastructure right off the pitch with Wilkins and Downes. We now have a scouting network in place. We have a spine in the team now with Kelvin, Radhi, Trotman, Hammond and Lambert. The club was destroyed within with administration and cost cutting and Cortese, Markus, Oldknow and AP are rebuilding it slowly. In fact Cortese said last night it will take as long as it takes. Its the fans who demand instant reward look at those on here who were whingeing after just 4-6 games and ignoring the fact that we had no pre-season or time together as a squad to gel. Something Mark Hughes was talking about at the weekend with his defence. I left last night feeling quite warm and fuzzy (apart from the £3.50 a pint Guiness) with what I heard and the ambitions the custodians of our club have. dellgirl Posted 22 September, 2009 Share Posted 22 September, 2009 Of course we can, we have time to build a team, with investment for players when needed as we climb the tables, better than a bunch of rich strangers with no particular allegiance to the Club, we may never be in the top 5or6 but I am sure we will see Premier Football at St. Mary's in the not too distant future. I was so pleased to see M.L. in the squad photo as I think it showed a paternal interest in the team and in his new venture, you just get the feeling it is not just about him as we had in the not too distant past,he really cares and seems to really enjoy the games. In M.L. and his team we trust..can't wait for the next game and more improvement which is still much needed.

Yes, you're right. Lowe gave us a huge number of sticks to beat him with. Up to you if you wish to call those sort of things trivialities, but overall, what it illustrated was a badly flawed individual who was capable of acts of childish pettiness on the one hand and an over-inflated egotistical streak considering he owned just 6% of the club on the other. When Lowe appeared in the team photo, it was because of his ego. When Liebherr does it, one gets the feeling that he wished to be associated closely with the team out of a sense of fondness and pride for the club he bought. Oh please. fdajh lhskjhk sjfkhsfaakl ahsjhsk fieieoua fhah. .... Sorry you couldn't understand the last bit, wait a moment whilst I wipe the vomit from my keyboard.... You've no way of knowing what motivates ML to appear in the photo, nor RL for that matter. I'd suggest that any leader / owner should appear in the team photo, because it promotes togetherness. No doubt if RL hadn't appeared in the photo, he'd have been criticised for being aloof (hence my 'any stick to beat him with' comment above). Don't get me wrong, I think (and have always contested) that RL did a lot that was bad for the club. I find the double standards that some are applying at best amusing, at worst vomit inducing. Anyways, well done Markus - good to see you bonding with the players. Now all we need is some clay pigeon shooting and the vision will be complete....!
