Why would this be a bad move have you seen him play regularly? Pericard has had a number of injuries has recovered and is now playing well apparently http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulfletcher/2009/12/pericard_bounces_back_after_in.html#177458 Edited 30 December, 2009 by John B
Prince Jazzbo Posted 30 December, 2009 Share Posted 30 December, 2009 (edited) Scored 6 so far this season, thats better at this point in the season than some strikers we've had in the past. Edited 30 December, 2009 by Prince Jazzbo
S-Clarke Posted 30 December, 2009 Share Posted 30 December, 2009 He's not done too badly this year, they only signed him in October as well i believe - so his goals tally is quite impressive. But this league is generally poor, and you don't need to be a world beater to do well - a bit of power/strength and you'll do well He'd be a good squad player at this level though, no doubts about that. saintbletch Posted 30 December, 2009 Share Posted 30 December, 2009 Wasn't he carp for us? It all seems so long ago :s That was my initial reaction, but that was then and this is now. Bringing a decent player struggling for form into the road crash of a club that was Saints is very different from bringing in an in-form player into a decent side. And we do need cover for Lambert. Toomer Posted 30 December, 2009 Share Posted 30 December, 2009 One question, is he going to be better than Saga, his wages will be less I would have thought and Saga is not in AP plans so it looks and we need off load him if that is the case. oxfordshire_saint Posted 30 December, 2009 Share Posted 30 December, 2009 He's got a turning circle like the QE2, an awful touch and no pace. I'd rather we spent some money and got someone a little more mobile.

Hopkins Posted 30 December, 2009 Share Posted 30 December, 2009 He's the focul point of there attack. To be fair, he was horrfic was for last time but he'd probably do a job for us. I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that because its the News of the World its ******** though. He'll probably leave Carlisle to be fair and go to another League 1 club but i'd bank on us looking at more "long term" options.

Scummer Posted 30 December, 2009 Share Posted 30 December, 2009 I'd rather we spent some money and got someone a little more mobile. If we sign a striker in January, they are likely to spend 90% of their time on the bench. Essentially they would be cover in case Lambert gets injured. There are better areas of the team on which to spend 'real' money.

Wes Tender Posted 30 December, 2009 Share Posted 30 December, 2009 Pardew's reported interest in him is a brilliant bit of gamesmanship. We talk up our interest in a very average striker, encouraging our main rivals to spend their sparse dosh on him and thus blunting their chances of promotion. SuperMikey Posted 30 December, 2009 Share Posted 30 December, 2009 Pericard is absolutely gash. My gran is faster than him, and she's 74. I still remember watching him against Charlton last season. We were on the attack, he receives the ball, the defender comes in to challenge him, he goes down like he's been shot, the Charlton defenders pick up the ball and launch a counter attack which they nearly scored from while he's still down on the ground. He's f*cking useless. Carlisle are welcome to him as far as i'm concerned. P*mpey fans on that blog on the BBC Sport page keep going on about how superb he was in their CCC promotion season. I don't think 9 goals in 32 appearances is a fantastic return for a striker, considering Lallana has 12 from midfield, and Rickie Lambert has double Pericard's tally in 23 appearances. Pericard might be on a free transfer, but that doesn't make him any less awful. Jeremie Aliadiere is on a free as well, and he's 10x the player that Pericard is. So then presuming Antonio goes, who is left on the right while Papa is upfront and we'd need someone decent enough in midfield to cover lallana so about 4 players in would be good IMO. Window Cleaner Posted 30 December, 2009 Share Posted 30 December, 2009 Mirror reported that he had his contract terminated with immediate effect by WGS the other day, and he's now on a free. Aliadiere underwent an ankle operation back at the end of October following an injury. He was supposed to be absent about 8 weeks or so, so where this story about his contract being cancelled comes from I really don't know. Unless he has to pack it in on medical advice and Boro are going for the insurance money.

In the summer Aliadiere was rumoured at Wigan and that sort of club, but there was a 3.5 million fee attached so on a free now would be surprising. Saint Fan CaM Posted 30 December, 2009 Share Posted 30 December, 2009 First reaction would be "oh no". Essentially they would be cover in case Lambert gets injured. There are better areas of the team on which to spend 'real' money. Against Colchester we had 8 shots on target to their 5, yet we lost 2-1. Lambert's fitness is ok, but Connolly it seems can't always play regularly in the midst of a fixture pileup. If one of them gets injured, we're buggered, plus it'd do them good to have some serious competition for places. Lee Barnard would fit the bill nicely. SNSUN Posted 30 December, 2009 Share Posted 30 December, 2009 He didn't make an impact here, but then it was very hard for any player to make an impact here judging by how shyte we were for the last couple of seasons. Seemingly he's turned his life around and all credit to him, but I'd rather set our sights elsewhere. Still, as has been said, in Pards we trust. oxfordshire_saint Posted 30 December, 2009 Share Posted 30 December, 2009 Still, as has been said, in Pards we trust. No dig at Pards, because I think he is the best man for the job, but didn't we use to use the phrase "in Burley we trust" quite a lot? Despite the success AP has had with certain signings (Connolly, Lambert, Harding etc), I'm sure he's more than capable of making a crap signing too, all managers do. Remember when Fergie put his faith in Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson, Taibi, Bellion.......
