Has Saganowski Left?

Granadino

Have seen some stories in the Polish media that say that Saga has already left the club, having had his contract cancelled by mutual consent before returning to Poland for Christmas on 22 December. Any truth in this? Always likely to happen but strange we haven't heard anything from the club?

I must admit after AP was praising him recently I thought we might see him yesterday.

Surely he could have done a reasonable job for us v Luton?

I think this story has got legs.

If it has then why are the club not telling us?

Mind you, they are under no obligation.

A bit strange, but I always felt that reading between the lines, there were items that fans were interested in that often never it to the top of the OS file...and some things that appear there are sometimes only for "internal consumption".It's good for Saga if he gets a "new life" in Poland /Germany, they have a winter break just now - and he may turn up somewhere else in Europe by mid-january.

Unfortunately, he lacked consistancy. He often played well when the team was poor. He arrived with a goal rush, but seemed to lack confidence in the long term.

Still, he's one of a very few players to score a hat-trick away from home in the last 10 years. (6-0 at Wolves)

Maybe its an "embarrassment " talking about players departing, or injured.

He wasn't training with the first team so asked the club if he could go back to Poland for Christmas. He is not part of the clubs plans and doesn't want to stay anyway. Would have gone to Notts County at the beginning of the season as player/coach but clubs couldn't agree a fee. May be off abroad this transfer window

He'll be gone soon if he hasn't gone already, Pardew doesn't rate him

How can a manager arbitarily not rate a player who has played for their country and in the Champions League?

Surely it's either a personality clash or, as Pardew suggested in an interview a while back, that Saga doesn't fit into his way of playing. That doesn't mean he doesn't rate him as an individual per se.

IMHO of course

Alot of rubbish players have played for their country and even more rubbish players have played in the Champions league.

How can a fan on a messageboard arbitrarily rate all players just because they have played for their country or in the Champions league? ;)

I'm not saying Saga is rubbish (he clearly isn't) but to use those two factors as reasons is illogical. Saga just has lost heart at Saints and both parties need a clean break and him to find a new club and Saints get a replacement.

I don't think there are so many people who have criticised him as a human being, but the manager makes a choice of who he will play, and in which formation and history is littered with those who fell into the "wrong" category.

Gordon Strachan, argueably one of the best managers who've ever picked a Saints team, had his own personal list of players he didn't want and he didn't play them - except in dire emergencies. FULL STOP.

The manager lives and dies by his team selection.

No real reflection on Saganowski. I hope he gets in a good club.

And he did like to play certain players, like Telfer, who many didn't rate. It works when you get results, it doesn't when you don't.

Strachan didn't fancy Kevin Davies but the bloke is still doing a decent job in the Premiership.

I have no doubt Saga will leave in January, if he hasn't already. It is disappointing however to see so many negative comments about him on here. He had obvious quality, however he was unable to perform in a team which wasn't making chances for him. When he had the likes of Bale, Skacel, Belmadi and Surman providing quality service he was devastating.

Needs to move on for his own sake. I remember when Oakley left people said he was crap, good riddance, he'd lost it etc. Went on to get promoted and be arguably Derby's best player in their hilarious Premiership cameo. I think Saga needs a similar fresh start. Good luck to him.

I doubt it, the Premiership ceased to exist in 2007.

  • 2 weeks later...

Suggests he has an offer from Polonia Warsaw, but wages could be a problem as he's on £12k per week here!

Do you realize that's the weekly wage cap for Burnley's EPL players. £12k thats way to high for league one, whats worse he's been paid that all seasons for what a couple of apperances? We need to get rid quick.

no shortage of saints fans screaming for us to sign him at all costs I recall.

Not me! Heard from the youth team (after watching him training) that he was awful although he scored a few playing for a contract. Never asked for him to be so vastly overpaid. No wonder we nearly went t*ts up judging by some of the contracts Hone was dishing out!

Very good player, IMO. You don't play like he did in his loan spell by accident. It just seems a shame that he's never been able to recreate that form, for whatever reason.

What, like trying extra hard for...a lucrative contract?

Probably the same Polish affliction that made the lazy, clumsy Rasiak look so sharp, determined & better than we'd ever seen him in a Saints shirt (despite his goals) in pre season. In the shop window, desperate for a big pay day!

All players should be constantly looking for a bigger payday. Let's face it, no one gets to SFC and thinks, "Finally, I've made it to the very pinnacle of World football".

Those would be the contracts that Hone got one of the SFC board members to sign because as he explained the money wasn't there to finance them. He knew it, just the football 'fans' on the SFC board just wouldn't accept that it was true.

nor me. Despite the flurry of goals I could see he was slow, didn't hold the ball up well and his decisions when it came to passing were terrible. I thought I might be wrong but every time I see him he gives the ball away so cheaply its not true. Never been all that impressed. Shame his wage is too big to attract anyone from the CCC lower half. We should have agreed to pay the shortfall in wages when Ipswich came in.

When was that? wasn't it Rudi who didn't want to lose money by going to Ipswich? Did another of our "stars:rolleyes:" turn them down over money as well?

Saga came into our dealership yesterday and when we asked him what was going on, he said he and Pardew had had many bust ups and were not even talking to one another.

I hate to say this, but it's almost like he's given up on actually playing football anymore and is only interested now in getting the full whack from his contract. His career is passing him by and he doesn't seem to care.

If this is so, then i hope he doesn't look back in years to come with great regret on what might have been.

He's past 31 now, don't forget Cantona quit football at 30 (well football on grass anyway).Perhaps Saga's motivation isn't there any more. Football may be just a job to him, probably been playing and training 5/6 days a week since he was about 14, may have just had enough of it.You can't blame the player really, just the idiots who insisted on him being signed at all cost against the wishes of "the execs".
