Some happy stuff after last night!

My Dad spoke to Rickie at the training ground yesterday and he told him he wouldn't be going anywhere in the summer whatever happens. He's very happy down here, loves the area and has had the best season of his career to date with Saints.

He also spoke of the frustration of the players in so much as they feel another season in League one will be a wasted one as they feel they they could challenge hard for honours in the Championship. Despite this he said the attitude and general feeling in the club is hugely positive and everyone loves playing for Southampton so the top players should remain for next season.

Probably not Earth shattering information but good to hear it straight from the horses mouth, so to speak.

good stuff........we have players that are way too good for league 1 who will no doubt get attention in the summer..

lets hope they all stay

Yeah, but most are Championship standard rather than Premiership really so is the lure of that league so strong? I'm sure players like Lallana and Morgan realise that any move to the Premiership would result in a season of bench warming. If we go up as Champions next season then we will build a team strong enough to take on the best the Championship has to offer so unless they're very impatient Saints are still a strong option for them. They won't really improve their salaries by moving so that temptations not really there either.

If Leeds and Charlton / Millwall join Norwich then I think the league will be significantly weaker next season and Saints will have no excuses with a points deduction or poor start.

Rochdale and Bournemouth are no threat and Notts County appear to have financial probs.

From the other way, Peterborough and Plymouth have financial problems so only Watford / Sheffield Wed / Palace arrive as a threat.

True but Swindon and Huddersfield will still be down here and Brighton are likely to be stronger and more of a threat next year too. If we can hold on to this team and get some decent cover for midfield we should do very well next season.

This is exactly what we were discussing last night; you would hope, perhaps expect, that the wages we're paying are somewhere near being in line with alot of teams of Championship standard. And, Lallana and Schneiderlin aside, its unlikely any Prem teams will come sniffing for our players (though one or two may look at a cheeky bid for RL, he's under contract and we'd want huge money for him). So it's just a question of ambition really, and whether for the player taking your chances with a new team in the Championship is actually any better than playing for the favourites for the title in League 1 at a well established club that's well covered in the media considering the division.

Administration.... I wonder how Simon Jordan feels about administration these days? I remember him being very down on Saints when we entered admin, virtually accused us of cheating.

Far be it for me to crow but........

Good stuff - thanks for sharing.

Of course, if I was a cynic (which I'm obviously not... :-) ) I might be inclined to say that you wouldn't expect Rickie to tell a fan at the training ground that he was unhappy and looking to leave in the summer if that's indeed what he was thinking. A diplomatic player would say what Rickie said regardless of what was going through his mind.

Anyway, as I say, not my view.....just that of an imaginery cynic....

Hopefully all the top players will stay. The only one I have a slight doubt about is Schneiderlin.I think Fonte,Lambert & Lallana will all still be here.

I think there will be more signings than people think and hopefully a mass clearout.

I would sign a new young up and coming goalkeeper as back up to Davis

A new right back possibly 2 is essential would not offer Semi a contract

Another cental defender to replace Thomas & Perry.

2 central midfielders to replace Wooton,Gillett,Pulis and James who should all be released

Back up wingers(1 would be signing Antonio)

2 strikers if Connelly isn't retained and Waigo signed

So I predict at least 6 more players added to our squad for next season

Watford / Sheffield Wed / Palace also have financial problems, probably more so than Posh and Plymouth.

Good news about Rickie. I would imagine that money won't be much of an issue with Markus at the helm so any of our players being lured away by a Championship salary is unlikely. They would also know that Premier League benchwarming wouldn't be as much fun as staying with a tight unit in a great city hopefully winning a title.

to be honest..I like what was written in the OP but only a fool would take that as gospel...

never say never in football

I really hate to say it but I have to agree with Delldays. Lambert might be happy right now but if the right offers come in during the summer he might decide he wants to leave. I really can't see us getting through the summer without losing a couple of our first eleven.

The difference between now and previous seasons is that we can afford to hold out for a good price. Secondly the new owners, if they are serious about the five year plan back to the EPL have to invest in good players. So if we lose Lambert we will replace him with someone of equal quaility. The days of selling off our best players and replacing them with ****e are gone I think.

Anyone know what he said last summer before being transferred from Bristol Rovers? Might be insightful .

Anyway whether we keep Lambert or not is not our top priority,we could probably get that lad Austin for 2 litres of Scrumpy and 3 bags of Pork Scratchings. There are far more important players in our side than RL as regards to building for the future is concerned.

What is it with everyone who says FACT after saying anything? Didn't Warnock convince Danns not to go anywhere, before jumping ship to QPR himself?

I thought Danns turned us down as he didn't want to come to league one. No doubt he will have no trouble getting into another fizzy pop team if Palace get relegated.

Palace have financial problems surely! Last time swfc came down to this league they only managed to sneak up via the playoffs
