patred44 Posted 29 June, 2010 Share Posted 29 June, 2010 Some goal keeper news A series of moves concerning goalkeepers could well explain Barts willingness to stay at Southampton. skintsaint Posted 29 June, 2010 Share Posted 29 June, 2010 if he moves for first team PL footie not much we can do to keep him. Hope we would get a reasonable fee for our club captain. Think Green would be no1 at WH though, and heard James is off to Fulham? Green is leaving West HAM.... he is also very much in the minds of Fulham... Hence W.HAM interest in KD again.. and his interest in them Richard Wright will be talking to George Burley this morning..Wright’s arrival could pave the way for Julian Speroni’s departure to QPR or West Ham. EastleighSoulBoy Posted 29 June, 2010 Share Posted 29 June, 2010 I think the transfer merry go round will now get into full swing now that our interest in the W.C. has waned. Although I don't think that too many of the England squad made themselves a must have purchase for this time of the year.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 29 June, 2010 Share Posted 29 June, 2010 Mmm, would be a real pity if KD went now. It would make me wonder whether all the hype about the 5-year plan is starting to unravel a bit at ground level. However, if KD gets a call from the Prem, what would keep him here? Has he settled his family here? His position of Club Captain might hold certain benefits that he would not get elsewhere perhaps? Don't know, but my gut feeling is that KD will be a Saint when the season kicks off.

L1Minus10 Posted 29 June, 2010 Share Posted 29 June, 2010 (edited) Makes sense from a West Ham point for view. They are skint and trying to cut costs - Green is prob on £30k a week and they could get KD on a third of that. In addition, they get a better keeper. Still think it's b0llocks though. SaintNeil90 Posted 29 June, 2010 Share Posted 29 June, 2010 Zola was the one who wanted Kelvin. patred44 Posted 29 June, 2010 Author Share Posted 29 June, 2010 Grant might go in for James.? He could do, and may well want to. But he has no real money to spend at WHU, and they won't deal in monopoly money like his previous club. Although James would be a free transfer, signing on fees, wages, and most likely, image rights would be very expensive. Then his injury problems, that surfaced last season. Sheff Saint Posted 29 June, 2010 Share Posted 29 June, 2010 Would be a big about turn from KD and all his pre-season talk last year about wanted to leave a stamp at a club, not just playing for the money. Also seems odd he'd have waited last season with potentially so little on offer here, but would go now when WHU and Saints could easily both be in the npc in 11-12. SaintRichmond Posted 29 June, 2010 Share Posted 29 June, 2010 I think KD may have reviewed his options, and come to the conclusion that if he is ever going to play in the Prem, it has to be NOW, because, by the time Saints get there, he will be past his sell by date Because of that, I would wish him well..... he DOES deserve a chance at the Top Level IMHO

The Kraken Posted 29 June, 2010 Share Posted 29 June, 2010 If Kelv didn't want to leave us last summer then why would he leave us now?? Any number of reasons. But last season had he left he would have done so to become number 2 to Rob Green and therefore have little or no prospect of first team football. If he were to get an offer this time round as first choice keeper at a Prem club it would be very difficult to turn that down this late in his career. Anyway, this is all just idle speculation (for now).

Jeez, it must be fun round your house at Christmas. Simply because he is Club Captain and a senior member of the football squad, so while there's nothing obvious clearly, my feeling is keeping these types of guys on board is an important factor in the upward push. If the likes of Davis can be tempted away, then perhaps the 5 year plan might be threatened? Seems perfectly reasonably to me.

oxfordshire_saint Posted 29 June, 2010 Share Posted 29 June, 2010 KD is bit of a mixed bag as a keeper. His shot stopping and reflexes are brilliant and he's got better at dealing crosses since he's dropped a league, but what gets me is that his distribution is still so poor. He's a brilliant pro, but as a keeper easily replaced IMO

Green, Hart, Robinson, Kirkland, Foster and Carson are all Waaaaaaay ahead of Kelvin for the England #1. Probably a couple of dosen other Prem reserve and CCC 'keepers in between too. Goalkeeping is an area where we are week as a nation. There is no No 1 keeper, so if he got a move to the premier league why wound n't he still have a shout?? i was n't a big fan of his when he arrived but he has developed and is as good as any England Keeper at the moment. IMO. Keepers Get better with age so why should n't some one have a punt on him?? Good luck to him I say. I think he would do ok. John Boy Saint Posted 29 June, 2010 Share Posted 29 June, 2010 Do you not think that when we changed his mind when we stopped his transfer to WHU last summer when money was being spent there like topsey (compared to at Saints) his palm was sufficiently crossed with silver at the same time. In all of this under the current regime we are now in the position where we unload our players on our terms rather than with the underlying need to balance the books, so scurrilous rumours about our players on their way are likely to be tenuous. Try to read the thread carefully.. here is the opener again "Some goal keeper news A series of moves concerning goalkeepers could well explain Barts willingness to stay at Southampton. Kelvin may get a chance for a Premiership swansong at either West Ham or at Fulham." It refers to a ( not mentioned in the media) merry go round in keepers, mainly London based... which could involve Kelvin Davis... Which in turn could explains Barts position. West Ham, Fulham, QPR, Crystal Palace, Arsenal, and Tottenham are currently VERY ACTIVE in studying their keeper situation. It's no secret that Robert Green has been very unhappy at West Ham and is seeking a move. ... if you doubt that, PM me and I will explain why I know this. Joe Hart wants first team football.. All I am saying is that our keeper is on the radar of at least two Premier clubs.. as first choice, not as a backup. I don't know how Kelvin will react to an offer, I only know he still hankers after playing in the Premier again before he hangs up his gloves. Surely this is the key bit...if you know KD personally or know someone close to him then fair play, otherwise it could be said that it is general knowledge that he has aspirations to play in the Prem with Saints as an integral part of the 5 year plan. Bart could feasibly ride on KD's coat-tails earning and learning all the way to the Prem.

All I will say is that I haven't spoke to Kelvin for about 2 weeks., that's why I'm not sure how he will react. 2 of the others keepers mentioned I have spoken to only this last weekend. I will offer an opinion, and it is only a personal opinion as a Saints fan. I would be worried if we went into next seasons campaign without KD. I would do everything possible to keep KD, and it is more likely than not that he will stay. If he didn't, I would be happy to see us try to obtain a replacement, rather than go with what we have. No disrespect to Bart, who is a good keeper, but he is still not the full monty yet,and he is not immune to injury. And if someone asks me where to look for that replacement... I would direct them to Peterborough.. and hurry before someone else gets there. But lets hope a replacement is not necessary !
buctootim Posted 30 June, 2010 Share Posted 30 June, 2010 If I was Kelvin, heading rapidly towards retirement with a young family to support, I couldnt justify not taking perhaps a £1.5m contract for two years just because I liked it in Southampton.
