SB Posted 11 August, 2010 Share Posted 11 August, 2010 (edited) Moving to Stoke for a fee of 7 million, what have I missed? At one point Liverpool where interested in signing Jones with Sunderland saying they wouldn't sell for less than 50 million.. farawaysaint Posted 11 August, 2010 Share Posted 11 August, 2010 I think you mean Sunderland.. But Jones never fulfilled his potential for whatever reason and is now just a decent PL striker.

Andy_Porter Posted 11 August, 2010 Share Posted 11 August, 2010 He's also a complete ****, Bruce probably wants rid. He wouldn't speak to Cisse when he was at Sunderland, they passed the ball to eachother something like six times during the season with four of those being centres... Doctoroncall Posted 11 August, 2010 Share Posted 11 August, 2010 Obviously loves red and white stripes. So he only needs to join Sheffield United, Brentford and Exeter to complete the set (unless I missed one!).

TBF, this will be a good move for stoke and jones, the way they are set up and play i can see him scoring bucketfulls there.
SuperMikey Posted 11 August, 2010 Share Posted 11 August, 2010 Agree with S_S, Jones will be prolific with Stoke. A big, strong, physical player like him suits Stoke down to the ground. He's pretty damn quick too. They've got themselves a good deal there.

Rebel Posted 11 August, 2010 Share Posted 11 August, 2010 he has a bad attitude - a lack of commitment if you like he still chickens out of 50-50 balls and fails to go the extra yard for the ball a big time charlie

Probably, such was the old routine, forcast anyone ?? Why we lost Bale and Walcott oh so cheaply. Then again without Stern we may have been relegated earlier. Professor Posted 11 August, 2010 Share Posted 11 August, 2010 If the £7m is true it shows what ludicrous inflation there is in transfer fees once a player has played for a team in the Prem, or Euro equivalent. Jones is worth a fraction of that and personally I wouldn't do a straight swop for him with Lambert, but clubs are mesmerised by the so-called 'top level' tag. I don't quite follow as he is supposed to have gone from Saints for £6m having barely played in Prem up to that point. As for sell on, if there is one, surely that would only apply to the profit on the deal (compared to £6m purchase price) which sounds like it's not a lot? Arizona Posted 11 August, 2010 Share Posted 11 August, 2010 Um.....? When Jones left Saints last time he gave the death of a Spannish LB as a reason that he should, 'seize the opportunity' and move on. This despite the fact that Jones went on strike 4 days before the Spannish player died.

the saint in winchester Posted 11 August, 2010 Share Posted 11 August, 2010 No sell-on clause, chaps. This sale went through at the time Mr Lowe was not with us ... before he came back. I found an article earlier where he bemaons that if he had been with the Club when Jones (and a couple of others) were negotiated, he would have put in the sell-on clause. However, he wasn't and hence no sell-on clause in this deal. Yes, odd that a bid of 15M was declined last season and now a deal of 7M is about to go through. Something has happened that made Mr Bruce keen to make the sale go through now!
