Scunny fans think Adkins Too Good For Us!

Makes me laugh, everyone saying we're too good for him. He's dropping down to come to us!

People say "oh yeah, but we're on the way up innit blah blah blah" We're still in league one right now and nothing is guaranteed, so some arrogance needs to be dropped me thinks.

The comments from some people on here have been plain stupid. With the amount of people I've seen writing the bloke off before he's even started. No wonder the Scunny fans are narked if he's coming here as a lot of what has been said has been stupid and disrespectful.

lets just say that, with the greatest respect to S****horpe, he's buying into the "potential" of our club.

Nail on head. We are a Premiership club in exile, they are a League 2 club puching above their weight. The only way is up for us, the only way is down for them. Sorry if this sounds arrogant or disrespectful, but that is how it is.

This.....

If anyone needed a reminder of how moronic and deluded our fanbase is, thinking M o' N was coming was certainly itt. NA looks like a fantastic appointment.

I've not seen a single post on here referring to NA as a "northern monkey".

Neither have i...he is though. Not that there's anything wrong with that of course...some of my best friends are northern. Simple folk. Talk funny. But the ones that wear glasses are nearly always clever. We could be onto a real winner here boys.

They could be right! successful on a shoestring, proven in this league and all we can say is 'northern monkey'!

"Your response illustrates perfectly why it would not be in his long term interests to come to Southampton. For sleeping giant read dead parrot."

Adkins is undoubtedly a good manager - he track record at S****horpe proves it. But as with all managers it is a case of the right time and place. Would Southampton be the right club at the right time for Adkins - possibly yes and at the same time probably not.

I would be surprised if he dropped down a division to manage us - and the Irons fans should be disappointed in him if he does. Undoubtedly he will leave them for bigger and better things at some point - although I would agree with most of the people on that messageboard that right now that's not Saints. Sure we are probably a bigger club and one with more potential - but right now they are the more stable and more successful club.

Now if a bigger club with more potential than S****horpe came in for him from the Championship I'd expect him to take the job straight away.

But maybe with Adkins he will have to take a step back to take two steps forward - much like Fonte thought he was doing -if he's going to get a job at a big club.

There will be a lot more pressure at Saints that's for sure - impatient fans, an impatient chairman, expectation of promotion - and Adkins will have a lot to prove to a sceptical fan base.

to be fair they have probably read some of the sh*t on here. The only person who everyone seems to agree on is O'Neill, one of Britains top managers. Outside of that no one else is good enough for the majority. If i was an outside looking in i'd be thinking what a bunch of c*nts, to be honest, i think that anyway being on the inside as a saints fan.

S****horpe are a damn good club that punch above their weight, average crowds a little over 6000 against us with average crowds approaching 21000 with the potential to fill the stadium given a successful run. Owned by billionaires with an ambitious plan it would be a step forward.

If the man wants to take the next step on the management ladder it wouldn't be to stay where he is, alternatively if he is happy and decides that he wants his stable lifestyle to continue whilst trying to stay in the NPC then fair play to him.

Not all of us. But many football fans act that way and we've been on the other side of things over the years. I'm sure scunny would do it to a smaller club. We are a bigger club that slipped down below them, it's just a hard one to argue. I think the arrogance comes from dismissing Adkins and saying he's not good enough because he's their manager, even though they're above us. They're above us because they've performed better than saints in recent years and been managed a lot more efficiently, so good luck to them.

It's similar to when Hoddle quit Saints for Spurs. We were a better team than them at the time, moving to a bigger stadium and above them in the league, yet Spurs were an underachiving club who are bigger than us, obviously in ours and S****horpes case its a division difference between us but Saints are a bigger club and career wise a step up for a manager, in the same way that leaving Saints for Spurs would be.

Excellent post. Too many posters are thinking - we're better or Scunny are better in terms of Adkins management. It's more about SUITABILITY at a given point in time.

S****horpe have gone as far as they're ever likely to go: with their ground and the gates they get, they pretty certainly can't afford to stay in the CCC for liong, ad certainly couldn't afford life in the Prem.

Despite our fall, Saints are a club with a Premiership ground and Premiership gates: last season, though in L1 with a ten point deduction, we drew bigger crowds than some Prem teams! In other words, regardless of current League positions, Southampton are a bigger club, with bigger possibilities and bigger ambitions, than S****horpe will ever be. That's no disrespect to S****horpe:t's just a fact.

So though Adkins would drop a division coming here, he would be doing so in the hope (expectation?) or rising to heights he can never achieve with S****horpe.

we are very arrogant as fans

You ain't wrong there Deeps. Everything I've read about NA suggests we would be lucky to have him yet too many fans think we're too big for him. Too many fans think we shouldn't appoint him because he's currently at little old Scunny.

Some people need a reality check on our current situation.

amen to that. Pity there are a few more posters like you on the echo web page to balance out the many many deluded infants on there.

Not at all - Hoddle was a lifelong Spurs fan who saw himself as returning to his spiritual home - this gave the move a totally different charcter and made it nigh on impossible to convince Hoddle to stay. We also had no shortage of replacements, being a Premiership team with decent infrastructure (youth team) in, so we could ultimately afford to let him go; by contrast Scunny are totally up the Swanny if they lose Adkins - they are only where they are because of him. They are going to find it very difficult to attract decent candidates to a club with the lowest budget and attendances in the NPC, something which might cause them to fight a bit harder for Adkins.

Do a few comments on a message board/newspaper comments really have any bearing on how clubs are thought of? How many people post on here often? A hundred? Say even a few hundred. Hardly reflects the thoughts of 20,000 does it? I think the vast majority of people realise the internet is full of nutters and WUM, and is taken with a large pinch of salt.

If the Scunny chairman's comments are as reported, then he is too good for us! In my view, NC came up against someone with more principles than him. I must say that I admire Adkins stance re compensation to be paid to his current club, before he resigns. The more I read of him, the more I like him. Best of luck with Scunny, Mr Adkins.

Quote from Scunny fans forum, "Im hearing that on Monday agent indicated £350,000 in compensation would do it. Saints offered £200,000, Wharton wanted £500,000. Saints said to Adkins resign and we'll go to tribunal. Adkins wouldnt.

Make of that what you will. Seems to me that £200,000 is pretty fair considering Adkins wasnt being paid a huge amount".

Our loss.
