The Kraken Posted 4 November, 2010 Share Posted 4 November, 2010 As the club were so happy to publicise, "bearing in mind the opposition, and the number of other significant home matches in November", I shall be taking their advice and going to the pub instead. Ken Tone Posted 4 November, 2010 Share Posted 4 November, 2010 It's not really cheap though, is it? £15 is still too much IMO. I know I will get flamed for the parking point, but never mind £15 for a ticket, it would cost me an extra £10.50 to park in my usual place, since the parking season ticket doesn't now cover cup games like it used to before they put the price up, plus there's the infamous £3 booking fee, and I usually buy a programme so that's £31.50, for game where club isn't even opening all sides of the ground, and where Adkins may well play a few second-teamers. Yes I know I could get there much earlier than usual, find a free place to park and walk, etc, (public transport not practical from where I live) but to be honest, it's not exactly an attractive value-for-money entertainment package is it? Thedelldays Posted 4 November, 2010 Share Posted 4 November, 2010 when I go..I park near the Jurys inn...it costs about £3 for a sat game and free for the evening games..and about 10 mins (max) walk to the ground why on earth would people pay £10 to park is madness

Even most non-league football is around the £10 mark, so I'm not such what people expect. You can find much cheaper parking all over the place. You don't need to buy a programme and as far as I understand it (please correct if I'm wrong), its the same price paying on the day, so don't need to pay Cortese's tax for any reason. rolosfc Posted 4 November, 2010 Share Posted 4 November, 2010 £15 is too expensive for the 1st round of the FA cup. It only costs a few more quid to go to a league game. If tickets were a tenner or less I would have been more tempted. I have paid £7.50 for the tickets to Oldham and Dag with my mates season ticket and I think deals like this should be done far more often, the attendance and atmosphere at both games was a lot better than expected. Get your mates to come and bring the kids cheap game good day out. Ive got the missus coming for the first time hope she gets bitten by the sat afternoon bug why do people have to come on here and encourage people to go? I think most people have their own minds and dont need someone (who is hoping his wife will like so she comes again???) to say "come on guys......". I was embarrassed as a Saints fans in the way NC beliiteld Shrewsbury because they wanted to earn a few quid, a niave view perhaps but all the same they were entitled to ask. His reply was very disrespectful and showed a complete lack of class and professionalism. I, llike a lot of others simply can't be bothered and I dont think opening two stands helps, as well as not having the chance to book your own seat. If I want to sit in a stadium watching a mathch that has a non league feel about it then I might as well go to Eastleigh and save a journey. Honestly for this type of first round match it's probably better to be drawn away. Shrewsbury will be absolutely dire and we will win at a canter. Our ground is too big for this sort of encounter, we'll get 17K 'ish I suppose and the atmosphere will be flat as a week old pint of mild. That's far too harsh. We're an in-form team playing at least one division below our natural position. Daggers are struggling for form in a division at least 1 place above their natural position But they had some decent players and didn't just park the bus like we've previously seen. To call them an insult to professional football is as ignorant as it is arrogant.
JRM Posted 4 November, 2010 Share Posted 4 November, 2010 Got better things to do than watch some crappy FA Cup tie. Like posting pointless information on an internet site? I think apathy rules in games like this, and people use price etc as an excuse not to go, but it could be a decent cup tie, last years cup run was enjoyable up to the 5th round. Guess games like this can seperate the loyal fans from the not so loyal. And I'm looking forward to sitting somewhere other than my usual seat for a change. COYR I agree entirely. The JPT was a great run, and I wouldn't swap it for anything. But we're never going to win the FA Cup, and it only seems to show up the potential for injuries. Perhaps if we use it like we used the JPT last year, in that we were able to rotate some players and give the reserves some game time, then it could be beneficial. I'd quite like to see this team put out: Bart Richardson Jaidi Martin Dickson Puncheon Wotton Holmes Guly Lambert Bignall It would give the whole back four some much needed game time, let Puncheon and Lambert find their feet against "lesser" opposition, give the reserve midfielders a run and also let us see Guly in his supposed natural position. And I couldn't care less about the result, so it would all be about judging the individual performances.

But you called them "an insult to professional football". Like it or not, they got into this division on merit, as did we. They tried to play football the right way and didn't put eleven men behind the ball (they should also have scored, with a completely free header, which would have made it 1-1). I don't think there's anything particularly classy about pouring scorn on a team much smaller than us who are currently punching a little above their weight. They got here on merit, so I don't think anyone should judge their entitlement to their season at the highest level in the pyramid they've ever been. Good luck to them I say, even if they are going down. If you can only see the negatives in a very small club rising through the leagues and getting to the third tier in English football with such meagre resources, then I guess you and I share a very different view on football.
