supersonic Posted 21 January, 2011 Share Posted 21 January, 2011 Hi all, I saw at the end if the notts county game that someone was selling scarves half-and-half saints/man utd does anyone know where I could pick one of these up over the weekend please? Are they an official club product? Mods sorry if this is in the wrong thread!
Saint Garrett Posted 22 January, 2011 Share Posted 22 January, 2011 Unlikely, they are probably made by the same people as were selling those dreadful fake 'russian style hats' - they even had half of the badge missing ! You'll probably have to wait until the Utd game I should imagine to pick one up...although maybe in the town centre they sometimes sell that kinda stuff?! anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 22 January, 2011 Share Posted 22 January, 2011 IMO these types of scarves just mark how far we've fallen as a club. Were there such scarves being sold when we played Man U when we were in the Premiership? It's great that we've got a decent cup-tie to look forward to but commemorating playing Man U with special merchandise is way OTT and makes us look a small time club. Hatch Posted 22 January, 2011 Share Posted 22 January, 2011 worst things in football. Not just a small club thing either, they sell them at Champions League matches. I just don't get it. But if they don't cost more than 50p, there is no harm in buying one for an under 5.
opthomps Posted 22 January, 2011 Share Posted 22 January, 2011 Why would you want such thing? Why? Pretty much what i was thinking, minus swear words. its the early rounds of a cup game. I hope this is a joke. If not get a grip.

JRM Posted 22 January, 2011 Share Posted 22 January, 2011 F&ck knows why any saints fan would want one of those!! You always see them on sale at international matches and champions league, can almost understand getting saints / steuea Bucharest one but not united, that makes us look like such a small club that playing them is such an event. Look at Leeds the other night for inspiration, just fill the ground with noisy passionate support we will be back to playing them every year again soon enough. It's great that we've got a decent cup-tie to look forward to but commemorating playing Man U with special merchandise is way OTT and makes us look a small time club. This. More concisely, we are not a big time club, we weren't when in the PL, but I see us as the best club in the world. However, buying crepe like these scarves gives the impression that this is 'our cup final'. Well it ain't! and all those plastics 'givin it large' will love it. It's a 4th Rnd F.A.Cup tie. Nothing of real importance to us because we have a different agenda this season. Don't get me wrong, it would be great to win and send the Manchester fans scuttling back into their bolt holes around the country, but we need something more than winning a cup tie, we need promotion. I couldn't wear the scarve of another club, even if half of it had a Saints crest on it.

astrasri Posted 22 January, 2011 Share Posted 22 January, 2011 Am I wrong, but I get the impression that most of the posters here believe these scarves to be 'official' merchandise. I saw these being touted at the footbridge on Northam Road after the game by a guy who looked as if he had made the trip down from south London specially to sell his tacky goods. I would definitely say that these scarves are not official merchandise as they are not being sold in club outlets. Putting another club, however famous, on our merchandise would ' pollute the brand' and be harmful to the long term merchandise image of our club. I think these kind of traders realised the size of our fanbase (and therefore potential "business opportunities") when we got through to the JPT final and they came out of the woodwork for every home game trying to sell all kinds of non-official gear. Joensuu Posted 22 January, 2011 Share Posted 22 January, 2011 I just hope that the opportunists selling this sort of crap are left with large amounts of unsold stock, and that the club prevents anyone wearing even half a manure logo from entering the home section. You never can be too careful.
Turkish Posted 22 January, 2011 Share Posted 22 January, 2011 Exactly. It's embarrassing, the whole reaction to the man utd game is. I hope we beat them or give them a good game, but for me it's nothing special as I've seen us play them countless times and just want to get back to beating them in league games. my sentiments exactly, the closer we get to this game the more embarassing it becomes, it's nothing special, its a fourth round cup tie against Man Utd FFS. And if i see anyone wearing one of those scarves i'll f*cking Strangle them with it,

Well, now that they've closed that place that sold Man U merchandise on the corner Above Bar, and all of the nation-wide sports retailers in Southampton have closed. Oh. Truly horrendous items of ultra-plastickery. Mind you, I paid $5 (he was asking $2) for a Steuau Bucharest 1988 European Cup winners scarf from some kid through a fence in the Ghencea, so I'm no better.
