Owls talk

One of their supporters reckoned the home support was the best he had experienced all season 'consistently behind their team'

Was in the 'posh seats' today and confirm the support sounded good especially in the 2nd half

Not much to cheer about in the first 45 mins!!

We do our best!

But i have noticed lately that about ten minutes before the end,a lot of people in the Northam start to leave.

This is not good.So if you are one of these fans, please stay until the game ends.

I usually stay untl the end but if the game is done and dusted i try and start walking down from the back about 2 minutes before the final whistle, the queue to get out of the Northam is crazy.

On sky it sounded fairly quiet (even though I knew it wasn't). They'd had set up microphones around the pitch so you could hear the players shouting but had somehow dampened the noise from the fans. Dunno if anyone else noticed this?

They always do it, strange really.

Rather hear the atmosphere than a player shouting "Man On!"

Dont they scramble the chanting with some electronic trickery? so you cant hear the swearing? A bit like the swear filter on here, but in audio form hahahaaa

The slow owts is spreading; at one point it was picked up by pockets all around the ground.

The Chapel are getting more vocal too (when they're not *****ing about the ball being passed across the defence).

For once we sang OWTS slow TWICE before it went fast.

It's being sung better now. I mean the way it's being sung.

I remember a group in block 2 used to try an get it going when Burley was in charge and it sounded awful, literally like someone was putting their finger on a vinyl record to slow it down.

When it picked up around the ground (and there were lots not singing) it started to sound really good,

I took my Father in law today. He is a Yorkshire man, a Leeds fan but likes Saints because of me. He's been to SMS 3 times before when Leeds have played down here, today he sat with me inte Kingsland North and back in the boozer after the game he said unprompted "what a great set of fans you have got, they sing their heads off" Got to agree you lot were good today, i'm quite cynical of our fan base, think there is a lack of real terrace culture but you were good today, fair play.

Yep, it was really fun today :)

Personally I'm always up for singing all game, every game but it's tough when nobody around you is up for it. Today was a nice change from the average game. There has been a bit of tendency in recent home matches to berate the team when they're struggling rather than to get behind them, so it was heartening to see us take the lead not long after St. Mary's started rocking.

As for the slow version of OWTS, I thought some very commendable efforts were made - not least when the same donkeys kept banging the backboards to try to speed it up. Pretty sure that it was sung slowly about four times in a row at one point, which isn't half bad considering that twice is normally a struggle!

I'm not a singer ..... I was so ****ed off with the performance in the 1st half I was going back to the pub to watch it.... But hats off to all those who kept up the barrage of OH WHEN THE SAINTS!!!

I'm pretty sure that's what brought the goal about.. Outstanding!!

As for the slow OWTS.... It is ok at times but the fast non stop 20 minute version is the one that is truly 'ours'. Gotta Keep it going for the run in!! ;)

Now my language is fairly 'industrial' but I think the reason for this is that Saints fans seem to feel the need to put a "f*ck/c*nt/etc." (not to mention the 'P' word) into a lot of chants...strange really as we aint the most intimidating set of fans (unfortunately). Sky will be well aware of this and there's no way they're gonna allow family TVs to be flooded with expletives.

And maybe it's just me but I didn't think the atmosphere was anything special yesterday, it was certainly better when we played our big, bad 'rivals' earlier in the season. It definitely picked up in the second half and fair play to the ones who kept it going but it was still mainly just the Northam/Kingland corner.

Good win tho' and roll on

Great to hear these sort of comments at any time, but seems a bit better when the attendance was fairly low compared to normal. Well done St.Marys!

i have the opinion that when the attendance is slightly below average that it is the "hardcore" and that the volume of support is real support , whereas higher the attendance the team has to be doing well for the support to flow.

Sadly, because of my advanced age, I come from the generation that remembers The Dell before it was "all-seater" and I can tell you that having the whole ground (nearly 30,000) singing "OWTS" at the "slow" speed made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Marvellous!

Surely when the attendance is higher the 'hardcore' are still there, so are they embarrassed to sing in front of strangers.

We've always had good home support, sometimes things are a bit flat but that's hardly surprising given the last few years - we are rebuilding now.

Having been to quite a few away grounds I can't think of many where i've come away from impressed with others home support, I usually come away with a reinforced view of how good our atmosphere is

Thought it sounded fantastic to have OWTS slow in the 2nd half whilst ignoring the same muppets at the back banging the back boards at a speed that has no relation to the song! Amazing how when we upped our singing that the players seemed to up their tempo to!

Exactly. Our support is far better than the vast majority of clubs.

I can remember back then too mush ... But I always remember it being sung quite quickly with feet stomping on the wooden floors in both the West and East upper.

But whatever it was... Yesterday it was the 12th man!! ;)

Not quite as quick as the "modern era" though! Do you remember Bill Bray??

Love the echo sound around St Marys when the whole ground is singing - awesome.

(Best atmosphere at St Marys - last ten v Sheffield United, Stern John off etc; and Norwich at home in the Premier, Camara etc I reckon)

It was good in the 2nd leg against MK Dons JPT - seemed like the whole stadium singing "Que Sera" witht the floodlights on, awesome!

What I liked was that the level of noise was highest before the first goal, during that short period at the start of the second half where Wednesday looked as if they might get into the game.

Great to see us encouraging the players when they most needed a boost, rather than just when they already had their tails up.
