Best team spirit in years?

It seems every year for ages and under every manager there have been rumours of dissent in the change room and ego-clashes on and off the field. Barring Puncheon's prima-donna attitude and considering he was shipped off at the earliest possible opportunity I think this team may just be the most settled one we've had for many many years. Any-one Care to disagree?

Nigel has managed the entire squad brilliantly, the best i've witnessed for years. That's contributed to the best team spirit for years.

No one is coming out moaning about their lack of games as everyone gets a chance, at the right times.

And the way Adkins dealt with the Puncheon situation was brilliant.

''Get out of the building, and don't come back onto the bus"

Whilst I agree and think Adkins has done a brilliant job it's made a lot easier by winning football matches.

The one word I would use to describe what Adkins has brought to the club is 'positivity'. That is obviously rubbing off on the players and if he gets the wrong attitude then its goodbye good riddance ala Puncheon

That is the crux. The more you win, the better the spirit. It then becomes self perpetuating in a decent team because the belief and positivity is taken into every game.

Remember when jonathan forte joined he said about how he loved playing for adkins. Seems his man management skills are second to none and has done a great job of keeping the squad happy and hungry to want to play....ryan dickson the perfect example

Definitely - watch the players when someone scores... ;)

Yes, one of the defining images of this season for me is when Barnard's scores the winner against MK and Lambert is bent over fist clenched celebrating. It shows a great desire and you can just see the level of positivity when the boys warm up, still this has been helped by the great support we have shown this season. We get decent home attendances and the away support for the few I have been too has been superb, so it must help getting psyched up when you run out in front of so many who are generating a good level of noise. NA should be given credit indeed but whilst we are slapping backs then I think the fans deserve some credit as well (especially those going tomorrow night).

Before my trip back for Sheff Wed & Charlton some of my mates were still giving the "yet to be convinced by Adkins" line (you know who you are)

What I saw in the matches shows that he has instilled a system into the players and that they have confidence in it. That didn't happen overnight & (from something someone else posted elsewhere) I was reminded of his first few games when he tried to make us play out from the back and pull the CB's wide. That got worked out, we got torn a new a*8hole and to his credit NA saw it, learnt from it and changed things

So, from far away I see someone who has a belief in what is the way to get the best out of his players, doesn't let his ego get in the way or try any "I did it this way why are you so krap" of some ex International types and who has slowly won the players over.

They are ENJOYING themselves and see it is working. Elite Sport is 80% ability and 30% Mental Strength (ask Rory for clarification of that one!) so you get that 110% every week on the pitch.

I was whelmed by his appointment. I hoped it was the right choice, I could see the logic in it, but being a Saints fan I thought it might go belly up faster than you could say Chairman row. It's working, it's great and I am starting to think beyond the "team Spirit" and understanding the level we are at, that we are putting out one of our best TEAM for years

Agree with everything that's been said but want to add that NC deserves big credit for facing the storm over Pardew and making a wise choice--I'd never heard of NA and was one of the underwhelmed

Definitely a visionary decision by Cortese.

Cortese gets unbelievable amounts of criticism for a guy who has done what he has done for Southampton fc!

This guy has real hunger for success and if we give him the support and recognition I can see him taking saints to places we could only dream of before...

Thank you Nic, rip Marcus...

And keep driving the beautiful bus Nigel!! :-)

NA praised DB on sprinting off pitch to allow FR on & keeping momentum against mkdons

Then on sat rickie not doing what I from other end of pitch wanted , I saw him get ball with time running out & was screaming go to the flag but no he had to pass it ( greatest idea with barney unmarked to score ) after game he said wanted his mate to score & all always looks to get barney in as he is on fire

Agreed, Dellman has it, is NC's proximity to the team a help as well? If this is true, is his winning attitude an added bonus to the mentality going forward within the club. I think we should all congratulate NC, it would be great to hear it on the radio over here. Everyone getting the opportunity to follow the team up at SMS up to and against Walsall - I'm jealous.

I agree. But no doubt you'll have the tubthumpers getting their marker pens and placards out if we're midtable come Xmas 2011

Great team spirit at the moment. Look at players like Dickson and Richardson who were bought in for quite a bit of money, they have had to wait for their chance and then take it but you never heard any complaints. Also the likes of Barnard and Guly who have both spent their fair share of time on the bench, but when needed have been top draw.

Hopefully this spirit will see us through this run in!

COYR!!!
