Nothing Wrong With Guly's Goal

Made me chuckle, for about 5 mins after the goal the whole of the Northam were explaining the offside rule with swearing and hand gestures and a general look of wtf????

No harm done ultimately.

In related weirdness who else spotted Richardson playing with one boot and making a couple of decent passes?

offside.png

(the line was taken from lining it up against 18 yard box)

Do you mean the line that isn't in line with the six yard box!!!!!!

******* hell Baj it starts about 1 ft out from the mower line on the Kingsland side and by the time it gets to Guly it's about 3 feet.

Didn't you get taught about parallel lines (and perspectives in Technical Drawing at school)?????

Looks offside to me based on the video and this image when Lallana made the pass...

great analysis lads, better than the TV...

however, you can see that the defender nearest to Guly is behind him... because his trailing leg hides Guly's boots - OFFSIDE!

one might question if the defender nearest in the pic. with outstrethed leg might have played Guly onside ?...but maybe not.

borderline..... but I think the lino got it right, but I've seen worse given offside when it wasn't.

It was Man U at home onside!

actually if it was Man U, our manager (assistant) would have had tv and paper coverage about how poor the ref was, how bad the officials were and all of our players would have surrounded the ref, abused him and got away with it......

I must admit, from where I was sitting it looked as if the cross was closer to the goal line before it came 'back' for Guly, but looking at the pictures the Lino probably got it right. Oh well.....it looked a brilliant goal when it happened and we were non-plussed when it was given offside

As well as offside from a thrown in we also got away with a Richardson ball down the line that went out and curled back in and we got a corner when the ball didn't actualy go out.

That seems to happen every single game. I don't know if it's because the lino's are more underneath it that makes it difficult to see, but there's always one (often from Harding) that will curl a foot or so out then back in without being flagged.

This is a common misunderstanding. The whole of the ball has to be over the whole of the line and from some angles there can be a gap between the line and the ball but when looked at from above there is still a part of the ball that is over the line. The official is in the best position to judge and is a neutral opinion. You couldn't ask for any more.

Don't be so patronising, I'm quite aware that the whole ball has to be out and that also any angle creates what looks like a gap.

I sit pretty much in line with the sideline, which I would actually say gives you a better view that the officials have due to not being so close.

Perhaps saying it happens every game was an exaduration but it happens.

Nice pictures, but it's quite possible that a defender who's not in shot is actually playing Guly on. That one behind the grassy knoll, perhaps... ;)

this guys got it!

watch the program again there is a defender out of shot that looks to be in line with guly before the camera moves on. i think the lino gave it offside because he doesnt understand the rules, guly was well offside but came back onside before the pass was made, simples

Doesn't beat the lino at the chapel end giving them offside from a throw in though...

He had a mare, the ball went out from a Saints pass by about 4 ft and the lino kept his flag down Rickie ran after it Pool players were having a tantrum, and I think Rickie ran out of steam because him and most of the left side of the Chapel we giggling as a result>

Then I humbly apologise for my explanation but there are plenty of others who don't know the exact law. It didn't seem to go out to me and I stick by the official who was also on the line. It's only his opinion that counts, after all.

He was also upfield of Guly at the time of the pass.

Hate to break it to you but it was 100% offside. I was sat in Block 4 and it was clearly offside, even if he did come back from that position to head it in. I actually said 'Guly's offside' as the cross was hit and unfortunately the lino agreed with me and plenty of others around me.

If Huddersfield pull back their 12 goal deficit and pip Saints to 2nd place on goal difference, this decision is going to haunt us.

Along with all the others in the previous 43 games? You are right, though, it's always the events in the last few games that you remember, not the ones last October.

Then you should be quiet in future and perhaps the lino won't hear you? ;)

I actually think the ref had a good game. He wasn't card happy (the red was unavoidable for that kind of contact on goal) and he talked to a couple of players early on when others we've had this season would have gone for the pocket.

The offside was marginal but the lino infront of the Kingsland had a bit of a mare (mostly in our favour to be honest).

the Red was 2 yellows, Collins just got 1 match. On the highlights it's not very clear whether the yellow comes out first or not, must have though.
