Flag update

ok, so quick update. New total is £1303 which I amazing!

Had an email from the club today, and as a result I am now going for the 20m X 15m which costs in excess of £6000! If we are going to do it, may as well do it in style, hey?

This is some of what was said..

"Nicola has also kindly agreed to provide any outstanding funds, if necessary, to ensure that a fit and proper tribute is created in time for the start of next season, and asked me to pass the message on that he hopes you aim towards securing the largest flag possible"

Top top stuff! Excellent Mike and brilliant stuff from Cortese. Now there will be no panicking and worry about getting the required amount as Cortese will fund the difference. He's obviously in a generous mood right now.

I can imagine this flag being on the TV for many years to come. Excellent

Lets try and fund it from our own pockets and not just relax coz we know the club will step in and make up the difference. It will make it a much more satisfying achievement. Control the controllables etc etc etc.

Exactly be good if the fans did it all by themselves, nice gesture from NC but would feel better if we could do it ourselves. If you need any help collecting funds etc., let me know only too willing to help this great cause.

What a lovely gesture from Mr Cortese. Wouldnt it be fantastic though if we as a fanbase are able to raise the required about without having to ask Cortese for a contribution? Well done to all that have contributed so far. I will do so a little later on.

This!

Mike, have you asked the club if they'd be willing to put some details about it in the match day programme on Saturday so as to get the message across to as many people as possible. Also it would be worthwhile getting Solent sport involved to spread the word as part of their commentary on Saturday. Sure you've already got this all covered, but just in case :)

Great news and a great gesture by our chairman.

But to echo what others have said it would be great to do this on our own. Getting this done with just the fans involved will show a huge amount of respect to the big man and his family from us.

Maybe get them to put something up on the screen about it or mention it at half time over the pa system. Every little bit helps.

so to confirm, all the thousands of pounds being spent for a flag that cannot be hung up in the ground and will have to be passed over people's heads?

Get in the spirit, we'll able to take it the San Siro, the Nou Camp and Bernabeu in a few years :D

Mike - have you discussed storage, display location etc.. with the club?

Appreciate all your efforts and I am going to give some money but it seems we have a great idea for a great flag, the commitment and wherewithall to deliver it but not really much of a clear idea as to what is going to happen with it. I'm not grumbling, and to some extent what we do with it is secondary to getting it sorted in the first place, but I think the fundraising may be even more succesful if there is a clear explanation of what/where/how etc... once the flag has been made and delivered.

Thanks again, Ben

It could be used to cover the seats used as segregation and be on display all the time then, well in less we have sell outs.

So this memorial costing thousands of pounds would become segregation netting? Not sure that would work, at least 10 teams will fill that away bit next season.

Im sure it'll be passed across the fans at many Saints games in the future, much like you see at clubs like Liverpool and Stoke in the prem etc.

I think it'll look fantastic, especially on TV, and its great that we will be showing off our appreciation and a bit of history to the rest of the world every time we get this huuuuge flag out!

That was my original question, where could this huge flag be realistically hung from?

This is something I am currently discussing with the Ops guy, he has a couple of suggestions to where it will go but nothing final yet

I didnt mean to suggest leave it there permanently only when not in use i.e. after it has been passed around the crowd etc.
