Are Brighton doomed!?

So they have lost their top scorer Murray to a mediocre championship team...and have now lost their midfielder Bennett to Norwich.

Why do their best players seem to be jumping ship when they are about to head into a new era with the club...perhaps goings on behind closed doors!??

Losing arguably two of their better players wont be good for them at all. What do we feel of their chances in the NPC this season?

They lost Murray as they didn't value him at the wages he was demanding, which is fair enough and I believe they promised Bennett a move in the summer after rejecting a bid from Norwich in January.

They've already spent £1.5mish on that Watford lad and Hoskin's from Brighton (who is most probably better value for money then Murray). Think I read somewhere on another forum that Gus was hinting at more money being spent so they'll be fine. As much as I dislike Poyet, he is a good manager who knows what he's doing at Brighton.

oh, didnt see that they'd signed Hoskins, he's a decent player. Not sure of his ability in the NPC but only time will tell that.

I think with Poyet they have a manager which prem clubs would most likely be happy to send good young players out on loan too, and he is someone i imagine could tempt older fringe players from better clubs to have a couple seasons at the sea side!! I'm sure he has something up his sleeve, however i really feel they'll struggle massively this season...

...still, its early doors, anything could happen!

They'll spend more money than they have, but regardless of placing them, losing your 3 best players when you get promoted is hardly a good sign. Hopkins was a Watford reject, as per Buckley but Im sure they wouldnt have splashed the cash on them if they werent handy players. More transfer activity from them to come from them im sure, but so far they dont have me too worried.

With their delusional fan base? Yes, perhaps.

I still don't understand why they think Poyet is the messiah. I think a lot of other managers could have done the job he's done, and with less or no moaning at all. Well done to them for a good season last time out but I hope they get a nice reality check.

Oh and they need to stop being such a bunch of morons. We are not your rivals, now **** off.

Poyet will sign better players than Adkins because players know who he is that is a fact.

Adkins will struggle to get any other than old mates from Scunny to come to SMS, i.e Forte/N`Geussan. not his fault he`s what some would call a unfashionable boring chap.

if you give it a moments thought sure you can think of several genuine reasons why player may choose Adkins / Saints over Poyet / Brighton.

What tosh! Players sign for clubs for a number of reasons. What has more to do with it than most, is the enticement that a player signing for a Championship club might be playing for a Premiership side in the near future. From that perspective, we are probably the better prospect than Brighton. We are also the wealthier club in terms of ownership, so we have financial and no question marks over our security and ability to pay fees and wages. Then add in other factors like the support, infrastructure like training facilities, stadium, etc and we are by far the better proposition than Brighton, or indeed most other clubs in this division.

Agreed players would sign for a club they have heard of and because of there facilities before they would judge the manager, yes having a big name manager does help but hes a big name manager for lower leagues, we had Paul Sturrock in charge and under him we signed Crouch.

Why should they be? Their defence will still be solid and I think Ankergren is a good enough keeper.

There are still some very poor sides to be weeded out of the NPC and Brighton will no doubt survive fairly easily.

Doncaster,Barnsley and Watford would be my relegation favourites next season closely followed by Bristol City and believe it or not Blackpool, parachute payments and all, because they're going to lose a lot of players in a short time.

Brighton will survie i believe but IMO that Murray is a young talent that if they kept him till Jan and he scored 10-12 goals in the 1st half of the season would of been snapped up for 4-5 mill by a prem club, hes gonna be a prem player who will ship in 10-15 goals, i feel there less of a threat now hes gone despite there replacements.

Murray was out of contract so Brighton would have had to offer him a new one so him being sold in January wouldn't be particularly evident. He's obviously cashed in on his success by getting a good contract from palarse now instead of taking an inferior one with Brighton and waiting to see how he gets on in the NPC.

Buckley is quality and better than Bennett who has a lot of raw talent but will I suspect be used as an impact sub by Norwich in the PL. Hoskins will do better this time around. Murray looked quality at SMS a couple of seasons ago but hasn't played at this level yet so Palace will hope Freedman gets the best out of him. Brighton will be top 10 I think, not quite top 6 but they've got Palace, Skates, us to visit their new ground and a bigger budget than they've ever enjoyed before. I thought a minority of their fans were idiots last season but then so are some of ours and I wouldn't want to be tarred with the same brush either. After what Archer and Bellotti did to them in the mid-90s, they deserve a bit of success.

Glenn Murray turns 28 years old in September 2011. Can he really be described as a "young talent"?

There is a lot more to story to be honest. Never settled at the club and by all accounts put in at least two transfer requests over the period of his time there. Very hit and miss until last season whilst coming to the end of his contract. Wanted a certain amount of money, Brighton didn't think he was worth it - Palace obviously did. Southampton possibly didn't - we'll never know.

Money isn't really the issue at Brighton any more (Lua Lua signing permanently tomorrow), but they are going to pay players more than they think they are worth. He won't be missed, because replacements are being (and will be) signed.

My bad got the strikers messed up at brighton... the other guy is gonna be the future young talent ;) Barnes i think his name is

But splits opinion with Brighton fans - as did Murray. It's always interesting isn't it ? how opposing fans views differ from home ones. In many cases the home fans are wrong...

If there is one player who doesn't split opinion it's Lua Lua who is signing permanently tomorrow. More than makes up for Murray for me, many times so. I was never a Murray fan.

Not a good example. Crouch had been languishing at Villa and O'Leary thought he was crap, so it wasn't the big signing by an little-known manager you are making it out to be.

Far from doomed IMO. Players out being replaced. Stadium capacity increasing from 8,000 to 22,000 so a big increase in income. A multi-millionaire chairman who is a lifelong supporter of the club. A manager with a decent track record, even if his eyes are too close together. Their target is consolidation in the NpC which seems a reasonable expectation.

The Falmer Stadium is capable of expansion to 35,000 so they have some future proofing.

I can't understand why Club Directors think that a promoted side will automatically play better in a new £90 mill. stadium?

OK they can get increased income from extra fans turning up, but their team had ONE good season and now have sold some of their best players. Surely common sense would have said cut a few luxury corners from the new arena and give the manager some more dosh to buy some better players instead. (!)
