Why is that so important, out of interest? In this day and age I’m not sure I see the necessity but I admit I’m willing to be convinced otherwise. Other than “we’ve always had one”.

I don't have a strong view, other than the BBC seems miles better than most media organisations in the various places I have lived and worked

it's alright. Most of its content isn't particularly great, or ground breaking in any way.

I don’t disagree. But for me, that alone doesn’t justify the need for a public service broadcaster.

I think the Beeb has done some wonderful things down the years, and still does. I don’t think anybody is suggesting scrapping the BBC. It’s just for this particular subject, I’m just yet to be convinced by the mandatory payment of the license given today’s reality of being able to stream (and pay for) so much worldwide content by individual choice.
