I don't blame him looking for long term stability.

It does leave a poor aftertaste though after we stood by him. He made me eat my words, believing he was broken only for him to absolutely show himself to still be capable.

3 years is a miracle for someone with his injury record. 2 with an option for a third may be realistic to get him to sign for them, but if it’s 3 straight up, he’s done very well to get that. I imagine he’ll now go on to have his best 3 seasons in the past 4 years (and only miss 2 months of each season) 🤣

Good player, but injury waiting to happen!

Agent has played a blinder there, found the loophole then got his client more money and a longer deal. I'm not that fussed, I thought Larin was better in the second half of the season anyway.

I genuinely don't see what others do in Stewart. Scored a few but not many, and too injury prone to be relied upon. Completely indifferent to him going to Swansea.

They misspelt Jock. Fair play to Ross for getting a 3 year deal. If that’s what he wanted from us I 100% get why we weren’t prepared to give it to him. I really liked him when he was finally fit, IF he stays that way Swansea have a top top signing.

According to Spors at the fans forum Ross was unable to commit 100% to the club after spygate and he only wanted players who were able to do so. He implied this was more the reason he moved on than this 5 day period before we were expelled from the Play Off final. Seems there was more to it than came out at the time if Spors is to be believed.

Agreed a 3 year deal is an insanely good deal for Ross. He's probably on a lower wage than we offered but doubt he would would have been guaranteed more than 1 year from Saints.

I guess there are 2 sides to every story and we have not heard both. I imagine Stewart might see it that Saints weren't 100% committed to him when they chose not to trigger the extension at any earlier point before we were expelled from the play offs?

Whatever, time to move on now. It's not the end of the world that Stewart hasn't stayed - he wasn't our most important player and would always have been a risk with his injury record - just as long as he is replaced with a striker of equal or better abilities to help the team. Over to you Johannes!

Exactly this, it looks to me that we weren’t intending to activate the additional year if we went up otherwise we would have done it already.if we wanted him to stay we could have matched the 3 year deal but didnt see the value. No big deal and obviously have alternative options that the club see as better value.

Interesting recent survey showed that Swansea had one of the lowest salary bills in

the Championship. If they've given RS ´...a 3 year deal (!) regardless of the salary, they 

ought to hope that he stays fit enough to go the course. Bearing in mind that Saints spent 

2 years trying to get him fully fit.  Swansea may have got him for free (as against our investment ) 

 but it's also a warning ...as we've been down that road with him before......

Interesting that there has been no acknowledgment  (or any thanks) from either party about leaving saints and his time here. Clearly not happy with the way he has left the club. or have i missed it somewhere?

It was confirmed when McCarthy and the other out of contract players left. He’s not Rickie Lambert, I can’t see why we’d say anything particularly emotive beyond confirming he’s left the club.

He was at the club for 3 years and worked hard to regain fitness and played a vital role last season to get us to the play off that we would likely have won other than the behaviour of staff members. Unless an underlying issue is see no reason why the club wouldnt have thanked him for his contribution and good luck. Seems like a common courtesy to me. Shea charles barely played for us other than last season and was injured for a chunk of time and had a nice send off. In fact Ross Stewart scored more goals and played only 19 games than Shea Charles.

Equally he could have thanked the club for all the patience they showed him and the efforts of the fitness team considering we paid him a lot of money for very little return when taken over the time he was with us.

How does that train of thought account for the markedly different sign-off that the club have given to Shea "not Rickie Lambert" Charles today...? It's been pretty obvious to me over the years that when a player leaves under a bit of a cloud, the club the parting words (if any)  from the club reflect that.

TBF it may have been as simple as they were annoyed that his agent had used a technicality to weasel out of his extension.

Shea Charles played 61 games over 3 years; and wasn't his injury against Blackburn essentially caused by him being overplayed?

and one of those seasons he was on a season long loan to Sheffield Wednesday. So played a lot of games for us in just 2 seasons!
