When can Ruperts Dutch experiment be considered a failure?

It has already failed and him just changing one Dutch manager for another won't make it better, especially as the other Dutchman was subordinate to the first one. It should serve as an object lesson for all other chairman in British football. The old adage still rings true; pay peanuts and you get monkeys. Whether those monkeys are Dutch or English is irrelevant.

I said at the start of the season that if we stay up, I'd consider that a "success" in relative terms only, and I still stand by that. It's still not a "success" given that if we stay up by one place, it'll be our lowest league finish in 30-odd years (if not more), but considering we only stayed up by the skin of our teeth last season with a squad far stronger than our current one, if we replicate that "achievement", while seeing the financial situation improve, I'll be satisfied.

what was the experiment?

cutting costs? -apparently needed

appointing Jan - fact he has departed in current situation -failed

closer links between youth/senior players - will only be able to judge when we see how the young players do over coming seasons and whether likes of the next Blackstocks, Bests, Cranie etc stay with us.

It appears to be a complete disaster, on the face of it at least. I didn't expect much this season, and have stated numerous times that mere survival in the CCC would be a satisfactory result, given the nature of the squad but I'm not 100% sure that's going to happen. I suppose that if we do survive and begin to push on next year then it will have to be judged a success, albeit a painfully long, drawn out affair.

if Wotte's pulls us out to safety it will biggest achievement by a manager for a few years, big if

i will form an opinion on results after the next 7-10 games...

pearson had some horrendous results too

So your still reserving judgement on the dutch "total football" experiment? Does the fact were second bottom of the league, played 28, only won 6 scoring 24 and xhipping in a massive 42, the head coach has quit, the club is now saying we'll be usinug more experience (after 10 months of telling us the youth is the way) than Jan did, they are also saying we play 4-4-2, again after 10 months of being told that "our boyz can only play this way", wish they'd make up thier mind!!!

Ps. Dutch experiment has failed!!

it has already fallen on its arse but we are still in this league and we still have a chance to stay up so until the season is over it cannot be judged but i fear that it could be too late.

success for me is staying up so that means relegation is failure.

i suppose winning 2 home games in the next 14 will make wotte a more competant manager than JP but that form will lead to relegation.

If we go into administration it will have failed.

If we dont go into administration and are in League 1 or 2 in two years time it will be have failed.

If we are in the CC in two years time and not in the relegation zone it will not have failed.

My personal view is that it's a failure already, but relegation will probably be when most on here judge his masterplan a failure.

It's strange how Ruperts rat pack don't want to answer the question...

Perhaps you could give "Ruperts ratpack" more than 14 whole minutes to reply? Plum.

How can I join Ruperts Ratpack? I want to belong to something young and vibrant and amongst sucessful go getters.

The experiment failed and therefore has been discarded..We can always try again next season at a lower level with Deano Gorrey..Everyone deserves a chance. English managers as bad as the Scottish ones.

Saints to win a game soon...tonight maybe.

Nick you are laughable. Next time you log onto the beeb, have a look at where we are in the league

It was a suicidal decision when it was made and I said so at the time.

The chances of the experiment paying off were very slim and it is safe to say it is failing now.

Dutch inexperienced coach with decent blend of yth/exp squad may have worked.

Team of kids drilled and organised to death by an experienced English league specialist may have worked.

Team of kids + Dutch inexperienced coach? No chance.

It's a failure.

we went past that stage weeks ago!!! Will someone in power stand up and do the right thing for the club!!! we need a strong ****in manager now and some stronger players on loan. The time for action is now!!!!!!!! forget the petty point scoring politics, ****in sort it out for the good of the club!!!! THe board etc should be ****in ashamed of themselves!!!!

I think it's already a failure.

I said if we stay up that's probably ok. And we might still stay up. But Wotte is distancing himself from the JP and Lowe mantra of total football and playing the kids come-what-may that was spouted at the start.

So i'd suggest, if he keeps us up, that's more to do with Wotte than Lowe's half baked ideas.

It's a failure. I didn't expect much this season and I've still been disappointed.

Thing is we always look to the end of the season as if surviving will mean we can start to get better next time round. If we survive then next season will be harder - we'll be further in debt, we'll lose better players than we bring in and knowing Lowe he'll probably herald the new football revolution "Hungarian total football". The close season we'll emulate those magical magyars, we may even sign the new Puskas - it won't help us when the season kicks off for real though. Next season we'll either be:

a) In league 1

b) In league 1 and in administration

c) In the Championship and in administration

d) struggling to stave off relegation (from either division) and struggling to stave off administration.

I better get that season ticket in early - I bet there'll be a queue.

Instead of petty point scoring perhaps we should just get behind Wotte for the rest of the season eh?

I am sure there are many here who would love it if we went down so they can be proved right.

I won't love being proved right, but proved right i will be.

You mean like you, then?

If we go down we won't be able to move for smug posts from you blaming "the rest of us" for the departure of George Burley and "the rest of us" reaping what we've sowed. (you've never been too fussed by the fact he was offered an easier, cushier, higher prestige job stuff. We drove him out, didn't we, SOG?)

Mark my words. You'll enjoy the "being proved right" thing more than anyone, despite being possibly the wrong-est contributor this forum has ever seen.

Please explain what is considered as 'their lot' ?

A divided fanbase.

A pompous clueless CEO.

A reclusive football chairman

A clueless head coach.

A team full of kids.

I'm sure the Luvvies will be even more pleased when Saga is sold.

My point is its not 'their' its ours irrespective of opinion

Stanley loves to talk of a divided fanbase. And then loves to categorise people. Yet another clue that he is a nob...

Glad to see that CB Fry has become a full member though...i like the way he cuts through a lot of the crap. Whilst not always agreeing with his point of view on Saints.
