I think a basic amenities detention centre, people living god knows how many to a room, is less appealing than a house or hotel. But yep, it's a variation on a theme. 1

Challenger Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Well both Tory and Labour governments have demonstrated that they are incapable of solving this problem. Every suggestion on here has been rounded on and trashed so it looks like we all have to suck it up and carry on splashing the cash .

What they tried to do failed, but just yeeting them somewhere else is something I’d like. Basically anywhere that they wouldn’t be endangering British communities. That was also slow them down as they realise they won’t be allowed avoid the gravy train But that was for 300 people only, and cost £600m. For 30k people that would cost £60bn. 1

Reopen applications from abroad, and pass a law that anyone that comes across illegally is removed to country of origin irrespective of refugee status. 2. Rejoin the EU and take everything that comes with that, including the Euro and free movement of people if need be, and then ensure that we continue what we did before in removing using the Dublin agreement. 3. Start funding education in the countries that are the biggest issues, as well as tackling global inequality that pushed economic migrants towards Europe. Other solutions are just sticking plasters. Winnersaint Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Twitter has been a little more strange than normal today. Its almost if they're willing something to happen. Bat shit crazy doesn't even go close to describing some of the shit posted from the doxxing of RNLI crew to the threats of retribution to those regarded as traitors. Think I prefer the pre social media days when the odd loony would sit alone in the bedroom of their mum's house and ponder these things on their own.

You're not wrong. 2 is unfortunately unlikely to happen in my lifetime and 3 revolves around overseas aid. Both too politically toxic for any party to run with. If you want to stop the boats, this is the kind of thinking you have to adopt. You have to deal with the causes otherwise it will never stop.

How do you know where their country of origin is if the passport is dumped in the channel?

That’s not true, your liberal lefty world view isn’t the only path forward and it’s still boring to hear people talking about Brexit

The only way to stop the boats would be to go back in the EU or have an arrangement with France similar to the Dublin agreement. For that to happen I expect we would have to accept a certain amount of genuine asylum seekers from the EU. There is no cheap and easy fix to this issue. At least Labour seem to be doing a better job than the Conservatives ever did - remember it was a Conservative government that started this problem.

They have to give a country of origin that gets verified with their home country, but it's more that it is a deterrent as they will not be granted asylum irrespective of this. I don’t accept that the EU can blackmail us into accepting criminals into our country. I don’t accept that re-joining that Marxist organisation will improve things. There has to be a better way, it just requires strong leadership and better decision making. Edited 1 minute ago by Osvaldorama
