Huge difference!

Bamford has never scored more than 17 Championship goals in a season. And that was 11 years ago and 16 goals 6 years ago!

Armstrong scored 24 Championship goals as recently as 2023/24.

Bamford scored 0 in 17 last season and only 8 in his last 50 Championship games! He is not the answer our strikers!

I didn't mention Armstrong.

Fucking ell lads what a day, been getting semi's everytime I refresh this thread 🤣🤣🤣

Is this really happening ?

I still don't think we are done and will utilise a loan or two......

Credit where credit is due, we certainly needed a refresh and to drop some of the shite..... 👏

We haven't actually signed anyone have we yet?

It was. But it was 5 years ago, he is not that player any more. Would you honestly be happy signing a striker that has scored 8 goals in their last 50 Championship games?

Mate, you can't in all seriousness say that he hasn't scored 17+ championship goals in 11 years as a criticism, but overlook that he scored that amount in the PL 5 years ago. The facts - and you like a fact - make your point a bit shit.

I'm not advocating getting Bamford btw, he's a busted flush.

I agree. Bamford would be a rubbish signing but you can't say on the one hand try to prove that our strikers such as Archer, BBD and Stewart are decent by pointing to their historic goalscoring record in this league and then claim that Bamford is somehow different from them.

I'm puzzled how someone can look at that and think he'd be worth signing to score us 20+.

He has lost it as a goalscoring force at this level.

Fair enough, maybe he's a spent force then.

It's just been one of those days today ....

like a great clothes shopping day where you've got yourself some jeans that fit perfectly, two new shirts and a winter coat all for under 150 quid , and on the way to the till you take a punt on the skinny fit t-shirts that are a 10er a pop..

WTF? I had a day today which ended up being totally offline. Absolutely typical.

I think i've caught up with everything.

Fernandes off - surprised and a bit disappointed, I thought we'd reached the point of no sale on that one. Did he force it? The offer seems to be Dibling-esque and not what we were after.

In -

Fellows - Been calling this one, like a lot of others, all window. He's bang on the type of winger we need. Top of the tree Championship player, along with Azaz. This is an exciting addition and adds immediate starting quality. £10m though is just nonsense, how has that happened?

Jander - I know of him from my FM travels, and he often ends up at top level clubs - so that's all I've got to go on. We did need another CM of that style though, no question. I was worried we may not get one, so this is a positive.

Leo - Another winger? Not sure if this is as close as the others, but he seems to be a bit of a late bloomer and is a pretty proven Bundlesliga player you'd have to say.

Ikone - ? was that nonsense? I saw this one linked as well. He was a baller for Lille a few years ago. Can't see how that's a goer, unless he simply isn't wanted at Fiorentina.

Have I missed anyone?

What a crazy day of somewhat mixed emotions going by this thread. If we didn't have wingers, we'll have sorted it if all these happen.

I can say it, because he has played again in the Championship since that Premier League season. Signing a striker with only 8 goals in his last 50 Championship games... is not a good idea!

The difference is that none of our strikers you mentioned have been crap for two successive season at this level. Plus Bamford clearly has some fitness concerns which is only really an issue for Stewart.

Whilst it is annoying selling fernandes I think you could argue that assists/goals wise that azaz and fellows are more proven then dibling and Fernandes. We don’t really know for certain how well they would have panned out for us in the championship both looked  silky at a higher level but for actual goal contributions neither where great. This might actually work out more productive .

Biggest gripe for me is the loaning out ramsdale and persisting with bazunu as number one we could do so much better then baz

Fernandez - Forced the move was at the Wet Spam training ground without Saints' permission
Fellows Fee - Excellent business no idea how we got that done for such a low fee
Leo - Yes looks like a good ball carrier with an eye for a cross/shot
Ikone - Just one link from an Italian Journo, seemingly on the outs with Fiorentina

You could add Guilavogui too. And Spertsyan, as noises from the last week or two but it's possible we have moved on from both.

I could still see Morgan as a possible though, his manager says he's on his way out.

Still confirmed in his press conference today that Fernandes had made it clear that he wanted to leave, partly to give him a chance at going to the world cup. How much he forced things is unclear, but I think it's obvious from the social media posts by SFC around the time of the pre season tour that they weren't sure if he'd travel.

WBA need the money.

Jander seems like a Fernandes replica to me. Is that what you meant?

Not sure Leo is well proven. One season in the Bundesliga top flight spent largely on the bench, but personally I still have high hopes.

Ikone doesn't seem to fit to me, but he hardly made a match day squad last season, so they definitely want rid.

You missed BBD going out on loan

I think Fernandes is more box to box than Jander from what I've read/seen. Jander looks like your typical pivot '6' player, deep sitting play maker style. Definitely seems to have pedigree though.

Ikone seems to be clickbait now I'm going back through other bits, probably just one of those random links.

BBD has gone? I did miss that. Where to?

I saw that PSV news, that was a left field one. I doubt we'll let him go on loan, I think he can get goals for us this year, probably our best finisher.

Glad we rebuffed the Edwards attempts, I think we should keep him.

Maybe that's how we got Fellows for such a low fee, we've absolutely rinsed WBA if that happens.

We will have to see how Jander plays when he comes. I've only seen a video of all his touches in a game in 2002 and he was all over the pitch, collecting and starting play, but also making runs in forward areas. He's always on the half turn, dribbling, keeping the ball for a long time...sometimes a little too long (I got Jack Clarke playing centre midfield vibes), but maybe he has cut that out of his game since then. I didn't see any tackles, maybe he has added that to his game. Pretty excited to see him play for us.

BBD -not yet, potentially going out on loan to the blades.

He does sound great to be fair, one of those out of the blue signings - a bit like Fernandes was for us last season.

Sounds like he had options to go to the Bundesliga too, so this could be considered a coup. I did feel we needed another CM of his style though.

Been out at a golf day all day - was greeted on arrival of the Fernandes news, so didn’t bother keeping up to date with anything else today.

This thread (or the last 16 pages) was a great read… was like a matchday thread spread out over an entire day.

I hope nothing comes of that. He's started the season badly but I still think he's going to be a decent prospect eventually. Yes it means we have 5 CBs when we really only need 4 (if we go back to Still's preferred 2CB system) but I'd still rather we held on to him. It makes us more tactically flexible too if we switch to 3CBs if needed when we would need the personnel. I'd rather Wood went of the two even if the latter has so far looked better.

Maybe the club still think THB will be subject to a late bid too.

Maybe Fernandes was actually crap but just looked good cos we were so shit last year. Someone better than West Ham would have bought him otherwise. I'm going with that to ease the pain.

Fernandes is nowhere near the finished article yet, I find him weak in duels but very good on the turn and in transition.

Could also improve his final pass.

Caspar Jandar

Will be a quality addition. Brings a lot of energy and is very, very impressive. Spors has been tracking him for a few years

Mateus Fernandes

Spoke to Still early on about his desire to leave, as he wants to play in a top 5 league to be in contention for Portugal at the WC.

Was told he could leave for the right price, Still only wants players that want to be here

Will Smallbone

A chance he leaves, Wrexham have shown interest. Hasn't had a pre season which is frustrating for him, but he's back on the pitch now. Decision up to him to stay or go

It's not a discussion about football, he is trying to prove to himself right.

Kinda like playing footie with a player-referee on the other team, or that idiot who keeps trying to move the goalposts everytime he misses...

Unless you have fun winding him up, in that case I say: keep fighting the good fight, men!

I like the way he talks about Archer and how he wants him to play and has had some stern words with him regarding it. Proper management. Also feels refreshing with the belief that if a player's form drops they could find themselves out of the side, no players position is really cemented in the first eleven. Rather than the same old faces getting picked every week no matter their form, which again should help with performance levels as they should all be working hard to get into the team.
