No chance we’re signing another 9.

Is that because we're stacked with goal scoring centre forwards who will start games regularly? We have a very raw Downs plus a very injured and sickly Stewart. Aside from that we can try AA down the middles as many times as we like but it'll never work. We have been crying out for a good number 9 for too long and all we are given is an injured player in Stewart and a rookie in Downs. Think how much a proper number 9 like Rickie Lambert improved us and strengthened the spine of the team. We continually skirt around this major issue and waste money without improving the situation. Time this crucial matter was resolved.

Finally I can make a contribution to this thread, from a Boro supporting mate regarding Azaz: 'Good player when he gets good service or front foot, can go missing though. We should not be selling him.'

That's concerning.

Watching some highlights of Azaz, he can put it in top bins with either foot from outside the box and seems decent at creating chances. He does seem like he’s not afraid to pull the trigger outside the box, only 1 in 10 of his shots seem to have hit the net (Fotmob). Did out score his xG though, some of his finishes are very impressive. We lack this sort of player IMO and as Alfie House said, double figures in both goals and assists, in 2 consecutive seasons, is very impressive.

Would imagine Sheff Utd have the upper hand on that one due to location, be a decent signing for us though.

Location? Hes been playing for Brentford for the last 3 years.

I didn't realise how old he was, 36 next month. Im all for experience but this might be a stretch.

Whether you like it or not, we signed Downs to be our main 'number 9'. When we also have Stewart, Archer and AA, we won't be signing another one.

I’m not saying I don’t think we need one, just saying there’s no way we’re signing another centre forward this window with current numbers we have.

We have Stewart, Downs, Armstrong, BBD and Archer. It would take two, maybe three of those to leave for us to bring in another.

Just messaged my friend who is a Boro fan. He replied 'Hes a good player but not very fast!, However he creates lots of chances, dont think we should be losing him'

Especially to you Southern Softies

We’ve been linked with this guy before, not sure he’s kicked on as expected just yet but at this level he would be a decent signing. I recall him being rapid.

In general it’s good to see our transfer window picking up pace, 11 days to go, as expected really.

Hah! Fuck! My bad! For some reason I thought he was at Burnley still! Blame it on jet lag

I would have been very keen on us getting Mee a few years ago. Excellent commitment and a good header of the ball. However, I've just noticed that he is now 35. He would be useful for his experience though.

West Ham ITK exWHUEmployee's most recent update:

“West Ham and Southampton are still miles apart in their valuations of the player. The club have denied reports that they have bid £40m and have said that this is far too much for him, but Southampton are said to be looking for around £50m for the player.

“It is thought that West Ham’s offer currently sits at £32m with a few clauses on top. Unless one party seriously budges, it looks like a deal will be hard to conclude. We are looking at inserting various add-ons to try and get closer to the price but there is still a long way to go.”

The West Ham fans I know just think this is typical of their owners who they can't stand - lowball pissing around wasting everyone's time basically. I mean 2 years ago with Moyes you could see why JWP would want to go - stable, he has a clear role in a Moyes team, got a ton of assists from his set pieces. Now? If they came up with the cash and let him have a relegation release clause, I guess Fernandes would probably go, but given he said it was a very difficult season last year when interviewed after euro U21, I do wonder if he'd really want to walk into another relegation battle with manager instability.

Dom Shaw, Middlesbrough correspondent for the Northern Echo: "Southampton have bid - suggestions are that what they have bid won't get a deal done. Indications are if Southampton were to reach around the £12m mark, there's a chance that would do a deal. It could progress quite quickly."

Things are getting interesting now. Azaz would be a good signing. Top player in the league, still quite young, improves the team.

Kabore would be a good signing too, very athletic, think he did well at Luton in the Premier League, but hasn't been able to kick on since then. We were linked with him before he went to Marseille in the Joe Shields summer window. With Sugawara and Bree, he also improves us.

Why? How many players thrive with bad service?

Because we aren't a team who creates a lot of good service. I hope if we do get this bloke and the description is true that we also sign someone who can provide the service because currently we don't have that.

Played for Luton in the PL - So would assume well known and recommended by Trollope.

A lot of loans, which is concerning, but seemingly a pretty decent track record on those loans.

Can't be anyworse than Sugawara or Bree.

Decent option, I'd say.

But isn't he a midfielder? Isn't his job going to be as a service provider? For example who provides service for Mateus Fernandes in our side? I'm confused and it's probably me being thick.

Quite the Irish contingent.

Bazunu, Manning, Smallbone, Azaz(?) and I think there are a couple of promising youth players as well.

The supermarkets in Winchester will have to start stocking Taytos.

Good news for people in need of some reasonably-priced tarmacking done, though.

Hey it wasn't me saying it. All I was saying was that if he's good providing he gets good service I'd question who in the current squad would be providing him with that.

I find this wording weird. "BlueCo" are making the signing, not Strasbourg or Chelsea 🤷

I know Saints do these multi club signings, but this stuff needs to be cracked down on.

I still think our squad is light a Jehovah’s Witness or two but otherwise I agree.

Not sure we have any nuwaubianists in the squad either. I think Dwight York invented it, so you'd think there would be more footballers that practice it. My guess is we have loads of pastafarianists. Who doesn't think a flying spaghetti monster is key to life?

The valuations are completely different. We see a rare talent that could possibly play at the highest level, West Ham simply see a decent PL player. Moving from £30m to £32m is a statement from West Ham. They are going nowhere near £50m (and they might be right to not do so).

The Everton fans seem 60/40 in favour of the club buying Dibling but I think they are a bit desperate at the moment

Not sure anyone is convinced yet that Downs/Stewart can fire us to promotion, and I am sure we'd all happily take Sir Ricky Mark II if he were available, but we don't sign Downs and then a month later sign another centre forward. Downs is the guy the club thinks can do it this year and maybe beyond.

I would be very surprised if we sign another striker. We have Downs/Stewart/Archer/Armstrong...and BBD. You may not like any of them, but they are here and we are not adding another body. Three depart this weekend and maybe the club considers it.

The time to get him was three years ago. I'm guessing we went ABK and Caleta-Car.

I agree with you but I question the judgement of the club in that case. We need someone now. That's why the Azaz transfer seems like a good move. We need the Azaz equivalent for up front. Maybe Stewart was supposed to be that?

But they are not getting Dibling for peanuts if he goes and they thought they were getting an experienced International  player like Eze  with 147 appearences and 34 goals

Pretty much the same. Remember they were quite happy that they had agreed to sell him to Birmingham a year or two later.
