I guess all the questions and confusion about how we fit Downes, Charles, Azaz and Fernandes in the same team aren't relevant then 😂

Well... it can now be how Caspar Jander fits into that group

When Spors was talking about a preference for domestic transfers I didn't realise he meant domestic in relation to himself.

Half our signings so far have been...so not too bad.

I wouldn't be surprised if last seasons absolute shit show burnt Matty out. More managers than wins. Then he went to U21 Euros, and I recall him giving an interview saying that he was so done with football in general.

Fwiw, he has only showed touches of class this season and he has played a bit like his head had been turned. Wasn't involved in our best half of the season against Norwich reserves and the funds will hopefully allow us to reinvest. I quite like the look of this Jander kid, comabatative high press tackling midfielder.

For the avoidance of doubt, this is very much a 'cope' post and I love the guy, but this is what relegation brings unfortunately.

Very disappointing to sell for that amount.

And poor choice of club as well. I thought he'd hol;d out for another year for something more ambitious.

Strange that he's going to West Ham then - going to be just as bad this season.

Yep. Once that happens not much you can do. Hasnt been that great so far this season but will be a top player i feel.

Yes, once a player asks to leave you lose respect for the player...

Someone else can score a goal for me! Shit, we really haven't got many chants now!

I may be misremembering, but didn't Parsons state and/or indicate at the Fans' Forum that they wouldn't let Fernandes go for less than £50m...?

35 plus addons is more than 40. The below average winger and the promising youngster with potential dm are two signings.

Don't forget, both sides look to deflate/inflate the prices as necessary. West Ham are briefing £35m plus add ons, we'll be doing £40m+ plus add ons. It's how it always works now, so it tends to be somewhere in the middle.

I don't see any reason to be upset about £35m plus add ons, which will likely take the total up above £40m and include a sell on fee. There's a reason our best players from last season are going to West Ham, Everton and Newcastle's bench. They're not actually that good.

Take it, keep the PSR Wombles happy and reinvest some of it in the squad.

You are correct but it was just fan pacifying bull shit..... bloody good at that

Disappointed about Fernandes but can totally see the logic, particularly if he is pressing for a move.

A midfield of Charles, Azuz and Downes should be good enough for promotion- and is balanced.

Plus £20m in credit - which either balances the books or gives that money to assist in wingers, forward where likely to make more difference.

I've never heard of jander so did chat gpt and sounds pretty good....

Growing Profile & Interest

Jander rapidly established himself as a key performer in Nürnberg’s midfield, catching interest from Bundesliga outfits like VfB Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, Leverkusen, Freiburg, and even Premier League clubs like Wolves, Brentford, and Tottenham .

Stuttgart reportedly tabled offers in the high-eight-digit euro range, while Nürnberg values him around €7–8.5 million .

Style of Play

1. Technical & Intelligent Ball Player

On the Ball: Known for calm composure, precise passing, and excellent ball control at pace. Often compared stylistically to Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić for making difficult actions look effortless .

Vision & Creativity: Combines technical nimbleness and awareness to create chances from midfield. He averages 1.46 chances created per 90 and dribbles at 0.69 per 90 .

Possession Play: His short-passing accuracy and spatial awareness ease team build-up, often acting as the dependable pivot under pressure .

2. Athletic & Energetic

Pace & Agility: Possesses high speed and agility, reaching opponents easily in transition .

Versatility: Comfortable in both central and defensive midfield roles; capable as box-to-box or as a deep-lying creator .

3. Defensively Active & Press-Driven

Ball Recovery: Strong in duels, averaging over two tackles per 90, nearly 6 recoveries per 90, and winning around 58.5% of duels .

Pressing & Anticipation: Effective in high-press systems, reading the game well defensively despite occasional aggression and fouls .

“Vacuum Cleaner” Role: A workhorse in midfield, winning second balls, intercepting, and winning duels—even when going down Jander still influences play profoundly .

4. Fan Perception

Reddit fans have rallied behind him, labeling him as a “Top Spieler… bringt gute Ideen in den Spielaufbau” (top player… brings good ideas into buildup) and even comparing him to Schweinsteiger in his prime—with one predicting: “In 2 Jahren Nationalspieler” (in two years, a national team player) .

---

Performance Data & Potential

2024–25 Season Stats (2. Bundesliga): 27–32 appearances with 3 goals and 6–9 assists, depending on source .

Scout Insights: Not a deep-lying playmaker but excels in possession dominance, transitions, and dynamic pressing .

FIFA Career Mode Ratings: In EA FC25, Jander’s in-game rating ranges from 66–71, with a potential of 79—a sign of strong upside .

---

Summary Table: Strengths & Potential

Strength Area Details

Technical Ability Excellent dribbling, ball control, and passing; creative in possession

Tactical Intelligence Anticipates play, supports transitions, stays calm under pressure

Athleticism Quick, agile, dynamic work rate across midfield

Defensive Contribution Active in duels, pressing, high ball recoveries

Personality & Upside Humble, coachable, highly regarded by fans and clubs; strong potential for Bundesliga progress

---

Future Potential

At just 22, Jander is on the cusp of a major leap. Bundesliga clubs are monitoring him closely, and his contract until 2028 gives Nürnberg a strong negotiation position .

With consistent growth, he could become a key starter at top-flight level, and may well earn himself a senior national team call-up in time—especially if the current trajectory continues .

---

Bottom Line

Caspar Jander is highly promising. A technically gifted, energetic, and intelligent midfielder who blends ball progression with defensive effort. His style fits modern possession-oriented systems, and though not yet at Bundesliga-level, he’s very close. Clubs across Germany and England are paying attention—and rightly so.

Also, if they come with easily achievable add-ons (IE number of appearances that push some payments into next year) it helps with the dreaded PSR. So a £35 to 40m deal because a near on guaranteed £42 to £45m.

No club can thrive with the level of player sales that we churn through.

Even if our scouting department was actually good, the level of turnover is just too high.

When you also throw in the fact our recruitment team are as useful as a chocolate teapot, you can see where things are headed over the next few years.

I mean, we have got over £100m on a load of players that we finished almost with the worst PL team in history. Probably says something.

Super disappointing sale. Selling Dibling should’ve led us to be able to hold firm on £50m.

Sounds like it’s a very similar deal to Dibling at £35m with add-ons taking to just over £40m.

Fernandes bid accepted last night. A real shame.

Unsurprising, he clearly wanted out, we're not keeping a £40m player in the champ and tbh, I think he's replaceable.

However, if given their start weve not got £50m, that'll be very disappointing.

Good luck to the lad.

Have any of you ever actually negotiated a price for anything in your life? If you ever go to the market in somewhere like Marrakech and some guy comes up to you and says, "special price, 300 Dirhams!" he's not actually expecting you to pay that.

Matty to West Ham. It's like walking away from your car after a head on crash and then getting run over by another.

Yep, and now spend 30 and fill up the coffers, great work all round.

Let look forward to the selling of Robinson next year but we want £50 mill but will cave to 30mill

Net spend trophy :adore:

I reckon the club will hold back on any big money signings with the aim of spending big if we get promoted.

And we can always spend in January to strengthen if things have gone a bit tits up on that front.

We still need two wingers at least, assuming Edozie goes.

Guilavogui is fine as long as there is another.

Not sure he quoted a price, rather suggested it wouldn't be cheap.

We all knew Fernandes was going, why the surprise. If Saints wanted to keep him then don't get relegated.

Agree with a previous poster I think he was burnt out from last year. Not surprised, he gave his all. £40 million will do, prefer more but with the world cup next year, he needs PL football.

West Ham though, bad bad move for him. Wish him well though

I assumed it would be on a par with the Lavia deal. £40m is too cheap IMO. Maybe we're desperate on the finances front.
