He's fucking brilliant isn't he? Seems like a really good character to have around too which is something we've desperately been lacking.

Deserves a much better song than a dull copy of the Fernandes one.

Probably far too complicated for our fans but here's my crack at one to the tune of Rebel Rebel. Needs a bit of work but there's some potential imo.

His name is Leo, he's from Brazil

He came to Saints, to show his skill

Our Leo, he shows some fight

Our Leo, he'll make you look shite

Goals and dribbles, he's got it all

He skins the full back running down the line

He gets his head up when he plays a pass

He's fucking strong and he's fucking fast

Just watch him play, and say we're wrong

We'll sing this song, all night long

Leo Leo, you joined a mess

Leo Leo, we think you're the best

Leo Leo, please score a goal

LE-O, we love you soooooo

Just needs to be four or five lines longer to really be memorable for the Northam.

I think you're doing him an injustice. At the rate he is currently progressing, I can see his next move being a much bigger club than any of these.

Sadly a fair point.

How about seven nation army?

The lad is fucking brilliant. Sort of player who brings others up to his level in a way.

what makes it better, he seems to really be enjoying it/embracing it. Probably because of the hard yards he has taken in recent years.

I can see defenders targeting him though.

Best signing we have made in a very long time.

Agreed, and of all the struggles we have had in recent years with our scouting I look at Jander, Leo and think hang on.....have we actually got some successes from abroad here?

Downs excepted, as we're all rightly frustrated by that one, but the other picks from Germany look like steals at this stage.

Early days though, but with Leo he's happy to take the ball and go forward every time. He's not one of those irritating wide attackers who will receive the ball, stop, send it back, and run forward without the ball. He actually runs with the ball, under control, into the danger area. He's got the pace, agility and balance to do so - and I hope he keeps that, I don't want any pass back nonsense coached into him.

Leo is our star player, incredible signing for this level and super likeable guy. These highlights aren’t in order but he looks dangerous every time he gets the ball.

The guy is a wizard on the ball. He can be unplayable in this league which means he'll get plenty of rough treatment. The way he just drops his shoulder then puts on the afterburners is a joy to watch. I guess if he keeps these performances up he'll soon be on the radar of bigger clubs.

With Leo on the left and Tom Fellows starting to cook on the right we have a pair of devastating wide men who can also cut in and cause havoc in the channels. Happy days.

Agree and also first in a while who literally gets the fans out of their seats whenever he's on the ball. We've not had a player who gives the crowd a buzz like that for quite a while. To me he has a look of Marian Pahars about him. Leo is a genuine match winner and seems to get better every game.

yes they both look very good now, Scienza the stand out who looks a class above anyone else but Fellows is certainly cooking. Azaz is improving too. With Armstrong on form it's a very impressive front 4 we have now, 3 proven top players in their positions at this level and our magical Brazilian/Luxembourger. I am going to arrogantly give them my stamp of approval

He got a couple of digs off the ball when the ref’s back was turned on Saturday.

A good thing imo. Gives space to players like Azaz and Fellows and arguably armstrong.

Bit like Messi though isn't it? Obviously different universes, but these sorts will always be targeted and hacked down.

The thing with Messi, and hopefully Leo (as he's shown) is that they've got this resiliency to just bounce up/bounce through them and ignore those tackles/bites and carry on. Plus being 10x better than the opposition means you can often think a few seconds ahead of any potential hack as well.

He's a gem and agree deserving of his own chant, Something like this imo, catchy tune, simple and achievable (with fewer words) for our crowd

🎶 "We love Scienza, if it's quite alright

We love Scienza, in the red and white

We love Scienza

Trust in me when I say" 🎶

I don’t wish to end this love in, he’s a joy to watch and is proving to be very useful but I think this is a massive over exaggeration. He’s 27 and has 2 goals 0 assists in 12 games this season. There’s some context behind these numbers obviously but at this rate I can assure you he’s not on the radar of much bigger clubs than those mentioned.

Didn't he provide the assist for AA on saturday?

Does it count as an assist? AA's shot hit a defender and bounced back out to him.

You're right about context. Those 12 games include the numerous times that Still inexplicably subbed him off when he was clearly the best player on the pitch. It's only in the last handful of games that he's really started to show just how good he is. And, as others have pointed out, the stats don't record him as providing the assist for AA's goal on Saturday, despite the fact that it was his run from inside his own half that created the chance. So those numbers really are meaningless.

It's entirely conceivable that none of those 4 teams mentioned will even be in the PL next season. I guarantee you that when he leaves us, it won't be for another Championship club.

Don’t think his substitutions have been inexplicable at all given it’s not just Still subbing him off, it’s clearly a combination of a fitness issue and the amount of games we play in a week.

You said clubs much bigger than those 4. He’s 27 and on a four year contract. Just can’t see clubs much bigger than bottom half PL clubs seeing any value in him. We’ve got him at his peak.

Posted

I don't have an issue with him being subbed off, especially as we have young Robinson waiting to come on. I'd rather have him looking fresh for 70 minutes every game than playing full nineties and losing that sharpness and edge that makes him so effective. Of course the last thing we want is a muscle injury that keeps him out for two months, like we've had with Charles, Ross and Jelly.

That depends on a whole host of unpredictable factors. I mentioned his contract because do I think a club who could pay him more and offer him a better standard will look to spend what it would take to get someone out of a long contract at that age?…I’d say the chances are slim. Unless of course he starts delivering numbers that they can’t ignore.

Compare what Leo has done in 12 games for us to what Sulemana did in over 70.  Makes you realise not only how good Leo is but how shit Sulemana and our other wingers have been in recent times.  It also shows the difference between having raw pace and having pace and intelligence with the ball.  Leo has that rare thing of being to run at a full sprint while keeping the ball under close control and his decision making is excellent too.  Definitely a cult hero in the making.
