The great thing about our approach is that we are slowly building under the radar, not chasing big names, not spending big money. It's building an empire behind a wall. Soon the Empire will be more powerful than anyone would ever imagine, all driven by a data backed approach. All those that didn't believe will be silenced, all the naysayers who criticised will be served large helpings of humble pie. We are coming to the end of the break it phase, now we are in the rebuild phase, the rebuild will soon be complete. Building a dynasty requires patience, it takes years measured in decades. Although I suspect W Ham just want to reduce their outlay on his wages that they're paying with no likely return. Maybe he thinks he'll outlast the manager when they go down. When W Ham do, they'll look to sell him cause his wages are too high so the merry-go-round will start again. Will look to move in the summer in the hope that W Ham will have amortised his value enough to sell him on the cheap. Will look for another bumper pay-packet. Is likely to end up a free agent who someone will take and their fans will end up saying 'He's good' until they realise he isn't six games in. Presume he'll live in a hotel for a few months, or limited rented accommodation. 1
Saint Scott Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Wolves about to sell Strand-Larsen to Palace for £50m. Bottom of the league and 1 league goal to his name this season, madness! Still, I wonder if this renews their interest in signing Arma?
UpweySaint Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago He’s been linked to Ipswich in the Guardian rumour mill but another name to throw into the mix - Sam Surridge. He’s had a bit of a nomadic career but scored lots of goals in the MLS and at 27 is probably close to his peak. Possibly a late bloomer? He’s a fairly tall lad too so may fit the profile we are looking at.

Absolute madness, he looks bang average at best every time I see him. Just goes to show how difficult it is to get a decent striker these days. Regarding Arma, I'm not his biggest fan but it's undeniable he scores goals in the Championship and that won't be easy to replace. But if we get a good offer approaching £15M I think it would be hard to turn down and it feels like both player and club could do with a fresh start, so I wouldn't be too upset.

The data clearly shows that for a 37 second period before Christmas that he was good enough to dominate the final of the Champions League. These kind of bargain certainties don't come around very often.

If he didn't go to Burnley on loan, he'd still be paid by West Ham. The money he earns will be exactly the same, only Burnley will be paying some of it. So he is going there to play football not for a bit of cash. Good luck to him. 7
S-Clarke Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) The rather scary thing here is that we needed a striker with Downs gone, that was somewhat non-negotiable. (but they were playing on the Stewart back fit angle again, as predicted). But the rather worrying narrative is being put out in the media that we're 'desperately' looking for a striker in the wake of Armstrong's interest - hang on a second, they should have been 'desperately' looking for a striker since before January. But seemingly we need to lose two from our paper thin number 9 force in order to 'add'. Memories of the David McGoldrick striker log-jam days. Edited 4 hours ago by S-Clarke 5

I'm trying to recall if I felt more deflated in January 2006 than I do now. I remember that January, to be fair I think the fanbase was somewhat lifted at that point. Burley was in, we were adding players (Rasiak at that point was a prolific player at this level). I think the general consensus in the Jan window of 2006 was of positivity for the following season, in the sense something was being built. In many respects it was, as we ended the season strongly and came out the following season as one of the Top 6 - but what was being built was on very fragile financial foundations, we basically gambled on that playoff season. That 06/07 season (and the back end of the 05/06) wasn't terrible by any stretch, quite enjoyable in some aspects with the breakthrough of Bale added to it. Miles better feeling than we're at now. Bagpuss departed in December, so I think most were happy when we signed a manager with a decent track record, but we lost 6 or 7 games (one draw, one win) in that December-January period, so I am not sure I felt great at the same time (end of January) in 2006. Sure Rasiak joined and a late rally prevented us from getting relegated, which was a possibility, but to see a rosey future when losing away to QPR with the likes Quarshie putting fuck all effort in would have taken some foresight. 1

Lowe was negotiating the deal, agreed with his club (Forest) but the player rejected it. Prutton was considered quite a good signing and promising player when he signed. Can’t fault the club for that signing even if he did become a bit of a loose cannon on the pitch.

disconnect Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Looks like Birmingham (2 points above us) are spending big this Jan obviously pushing for playoffs and promotion. Just signed the Alaves winger Vicente we were linked with in the summer for about £8mil, with some other decent signings, all from top flight clubs and pretty regular players from what I can see, including the top scorer in Sweden and another La Liga player. Obviously they're being bankrolled by their American owners, but aren't too bothered about net spend, whilst we're probably scratching about on the 2 out 1 in method and trying to find the next bargain... Lets see what happens over the next few days.
AlexLaw76 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Reading online that….. ”Saints are desperate to sign a striker” makes my cry a little inside. Look at the state of our striker additions when we have time to scout/set it up.

So we all just need to trust everything that Sport Republic do, because it's all part of their amazing plan, and they are definitely, definitely the smartest guys in the room like they think they are, and not just a bunch of clueless charlatans lurching from one catastrophic self-inflicted disaster to the next while being laughed at by the rest of the footballing world. 1
rallyboy Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago If Armstrong goes we'll be laughing because we don't need to replace him. I know it's a situation of SR's own making, but our situation is a little different from the Blues as we have players like Aribo and Edozie sat around doing nothing and host of other players out on loan (some we may be paying a percentage of their wage) that will be back in May on the wage bill. Once we sort out those players (hopefully a few departing permanently), probably in the summer, there will be a bit more flexibility. 1
