Just a thought, but perhaps he didn't want to wear a black arm band, not shake hands with anyone, bow his head during someone else's anthem and whatever else they had going on. Projecting a political stance ahead of getting a sporting result?

I'd say thats quite likely and Irish FA not wanting him to dilute their PR exercise 

Some comments from the Irish activists towards him have been pretty grim so he's better off out of it

Their manager says this has raised awareness worldwide of the situation over there. Irish ( I know he is Icelandic) are such a bunch of pious cunts.
