Just a thought, but perhaps he didn't want to wear a black arm band, not shake hands with anyone, bow his head during someone else's anthem and whatever else they had going on. Projecting a political stance ahead of getting a sporting result?

I'd say thats quite likely and Irish FA not wanting him to dilute their PR exercise 

Some comments from the Irish activists towards him have been pretty grim so he's better off out of it

He seemed completely thrown when asked what he thought about playing Nazi Germany in 1936 and 1939. The Germans even performed the Nazi salute during the national anthem. He didn't have an answer for that.

Quite happy for the Irish cricket team to plan the Afghans despite the gender apartheid they have created, and the refusal of all the major cricketing nations...

Must have been really awkward for Finn and Ryan bearing in mind Baz kicking off and knowing that Peretz would be in goal for Israel, and particularly bearing in mind the Azaz family background.
