We aren’t going to let a player run down his contract and lose up to £25m, especially if he doesn’t even want to be here. £10m should buy us a very good replacement for Championship level, with a net surplus of £15m. 3

Think he just genuinely suggests people. Harrison Armstrong started and played 90 for Everton today for whoever suggested that one.

It was given to him by a non permanent England manager who he worked with at under 21 level. I think it was essentially a reward for being Carsley's under 21 captain. He wasn't England senior team quality. Disagree. Nobody is saying it adds a huge amount, but it definitely adds something. 4
Tommy Mulgrew Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago NB: Asked if he wants a replacement for the star ahead of the deadline on September 1, Eckert simply said: "Taylor is still a Southampton player." On the one hand, true, but hardly gives us confidence that we’ll get someone good in as his replacement. 1

Look at Wolves, Boro and West Ham all ready to go with a bang with the players brought in and all those they want out GONE. Lose today then it’s not going to be pleasant at the final whistle. Jesus wept. 4
CB Fry Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Even the most cursory glance at West Ham forums/twitter/whatever will show that, actually, no Bang they haven't done all their business and Bang they haven't got rid of everyone they want and Bang they haven't signed everyone they want and Bang they are not all completely ready to go for the whole season and Bang they fucking lost at home yesterday. When your entire position is entirely your imagination deciding that all the other clubs have it all sorted then yeah, you're going to be annoyed that SFC aren't delivering on your fantasy. Bang there are some fucking imbeciles on here. 11 6
Osvaldorama Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Yeah.. can’t really blame the club for acting late in these windows. I think there was a fair argument when we were higher up the food chain that we should have acted more quickly. But now we are down here, sadly we just have to wait for the big moves to happen and then do our best once the PL clubs have made their moves 3
2Morrow Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago https://www.kumb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=192618&start=25720 This paints a very similar picture to this thread. Reality is on another day they cruise yesterday and it's all HMS piss the league. Fans are quite similar everywhere, and top end championship clubs either overpay (through add ons, obligation on promotion or sell on %) or wait for a deal last week of the window.

In terms of our recruitment, sometimes good available loans only become known in last couple of days once premier league sides have their deals done and make players surplus to requirements, got a feeling Spors will look to Germany for a couple of deals though. feels odd window closing on Tuesday when we have a game away in Birmingham.

I think Villa are more financially screwed than they appear to be letting on. They have lost Rogers, Tiliemans and Konsa. Likely Watkns too. For a club that is in the Champions League next season losing your best players is quite an achievement. Seems they are having trouble or don't want to meet our asking price.

Player now unsettled and this does us no favours.
St Chalet Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Someone will pay our valuation, or they won’t. Regardless. We need to strengthen at CB and CM. 2

Piss take for them that they have qualified for the champions league two of the the last three years and won the Europa league but got to sell to buy whilst Spurs and Chelsea can spend £100s of millions 4

No, I think Villa are doing exactly what Benfica did, they have 2 or 3 targets and are casting the net to see which one they get a bite on. They may be screwed financially but if you get 50 million for a player one day to bid less than a club played for one of their players the following day is taking the piss. 1

The trouble is we also can't afford to hold onto a player and have them give 80% because their heart isn't in it. Better to get the money and have time to find a replacement who is committed to the cause. We also don't know what agreements were made with the players after Spygate - there was talk for a while of them suing the club so maybe agreements were made not to fight too hard to keep anyone who wanted to move on. This part of August is usually a shit time to be a Saints fan 😢

Must be a dream dealing with us 1

Must be a dream dealing with us I totally agree though it's probably great for the bigger clubs to deal with any club our size. We're simply not in a position to soak up a bid which unsettles a player. We're lacking ready made replacements and the strength in depth that would allow us to say no. Particularly when we need to get back up this season. A large part of that is the terrible business we did under the first few years of Sport Republic's reign. We brought on board a lot of players who are not adequate replacements who we are struggling to shift. We gambled on Ramsdale to keep us in the Premier League knowing full well we wouldn't be able to support his wages if we were relegated.

EBS1980 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago So if we had to sell 2 high value players this summer to one cover shortfall in revenue and other to enable signings, and with Charles already gone, which other high value asset would you rather lose, THB or Jander?

ally_uk Posted 41 minutes ago Posted 41 minutes ago (edited) 20 Million? Double that or piss off it's that simple.. Unless we had a agreement with Villa 30 million but chuck in Dobbin for 9 million 🤣 Wouldn't surprise me if this was sorted out weeks ago. Edited 38 minutes ago by ally_uk

Possibly with some sweetener over the Archer or Dobbin deals. Does their current reported bid not spell out to THB that they aren’t too bothered about signing you, or don’t value you very highly ? Easily compensated for by the increased salary perhaps 1
Lymington Saint Posted 30 minutes ago Posted 30 minutes ago Villa are also spending serious money on Villa Park. Realise they will have long term funding for this but suspect that they are still stretched
