Taylor had already has loans at Stoke and Blackburn in the championship and also a season in Belgium. I think roughly 60 apps, so much more first team experience at that stage of his career.

If I'm Saints then I'd push hard for this loan deal. But would imagine a lot of teams at this level will try and some might offer more guarantee of regular starter minutes

Seems quite possible to me that Abbott / Schlott might be stronger overall than THB/Wood or THB/Stephens.

JWP for Charles doesn't weaken us IMO.

Upfront... have I forgotten anyone? Seems like Archer is defo off, so haven't mentioned him.

LW: Scienza, Edozie(?)

RW: Fellows, Matsuki

#10: Azaz, Dobbin

ST: Larin, Mubama 

10 and RW are strong.

LW is a bit of a concern seeing as Edozie doesn't want to be here any more, but the club probably looks at Akochukwu as a further option. 

Striker: as we know, Larin is key at the moment, but how do you sign someone capable of doing his job and happy to come to a Champ team and not play much?

Not sure why people put stuff like that on here unless they are certain and have trusted sources.  One thing is sure, we could do with Caspar back in the side to add some height and aggression to our midfield.

Stuttgart did bid for Jander a couple of weeks ago but we told them where to go. Don't know fee. It was when they were expecting Stiller to leave so, given he looks to be staying, they haven't pursued it further (or our demands were too high, or both).

The buy option makes me feel better about the Abbott move. We're clearly going for better depth, with a side of a dice roll on talent.

My main issue with squad is us being weaker in midfield this season.

Less concerned with striker than some, as Mubama has looked ok to me.

We have Mubama, Akachukwu, Dobbin, and one of Matsuki/Fellows who likely wouldn't be starting. Plus JWP could perhaps do a job at 10 for a game to allow others to cover elsewhere. I agree it's not ideal.

I dont feel it's fair to cherry pick the "Same Quality or Better Squad" statement without the context of the full statement or letting the season pan out! 

We cant judge how successful or not this window has been until the end of the season, just like we didnt judge the success of last seasons window when we were sitting 4th bottom under Will Still, Jander\Leo\Fellows\Larin\Peretz either hadnt been signed or weren't affective at that point and took a whole season to establish themselves.

As well as saying "our main goal for this transfer window is not to make money, it is to make at least the same quality team, if not better, for next"

He also said, to put the above statement in context...

"In order to keep the flow of talent coming to Southampton, sometimes it's also needed to show the next step. If a player goes to play for Manchester United, every young player thinks, 'Okay, maybe I'm not ready for Manchester United, but I should go to Southampton'.

"We have our place in the food chain, which is the reality of the moment, and we will see if we can change this reality in years to come, but this is where we are now. If we let players go, it will have to be a really good offer for the club, and also for the player and his development.

So we are going to sign players like Abbot, who comes in at similar level\reputation as to when THB joined us. 

After all the stories of "players ripping up their contracts" after Spy Gate and a "Mass Exodus", we lost, at most, only 3 players who had any kind of impact last year. Charles, THB and Stewart.

Stewart was always a risk with his injury record, Charles wasn't even a first 11 pick when everyone was fit, and outside of last season, these 2 players have realistically contributed very little to the proceeding 2 seasons they've been here. 

I would argue, that losing THB is the only real Significant loss that potentially makes us weaker. 

We signed Larin permanently, we signed Peretz Permanently, they make us Significantly better than we were this time last year, we Signed JWP which adds strength to our midfield. Schlotterbeck Looks like a good signing based on Saturdays showing and Abbot comes with a high reputation.

Personally I feel like we've had a really good window, we've managed to ship out nearly all the players who have contributed nothing to this club over the past few years and we're left with a very exciting team, just as exciting as last year imho, and fully inline with the context of the statement given by Dragon. 

The only slight concern maybe us being a tad light up top, but we just aren't going to find\sign a championship quality striker, who would happily sit on the bench and play second string to Larin, just in case he gets injured, whether we had the money to our not.

If they can find a club willing to sign him with that condition. So far they haven’t so no good having a clause that no buying club will accept if you genuinely want to sell a player.

I'm hoping Abbott quickly nails down a regular starting spot partnering Schlotterbeck but my worry is that Stephens will still get a lot of game time.

With no Jander we will be. Just a hunch, but I don't think we'll see him in a Saints shirt again. If he doesn't go this window, he will in January.

Tonda might make errors for a couple of games, but it doesn't seem to take him forever to work out what seems to work well. 

For me Schlotterbeck and Stephens have the experience and 'nouse' - but surely the German is superior in this regard. They both also have the ability to play a pass. Again based on admittedly limited evidence Schlotterbeck could be stronger.

Wood provides the muscle and pace, but at the expense of passing ability and decision making - he needs a skilled passer and a talker alongside him (THB or Schlotterbeck)

Abbott seems to be tall, capable of passing and winning headers. I'll reserve judgement until we've seen him play a few times, but I would imagine we'd be in a tight spot if we were pairing him with Wood.

This reasoning is why I shortened the options. 

Would Captain Jack willingly take defensive direction from Schlotterbeck? (even if we as fans think he needs it)
