Did I hear someone recently suggest that there was an injury issue for our U21 centre forward Baylee Dipepa? - The Larin under-understudy rather than the Scienza under-understudy!

Sadly yes, was about to go out on loan in the winter transfer window to get minutes and did his ACL https://www.shropshirestar.com/sport/football/shrewsbury-town-fc/shrewsbury-town-saw-move-for-southampton-and-former-port-vale-starlet-collapse-due-to-injury-5638723

Fulham sign two more central midfielders, maybe we can get Charles back on loan.

Or they could give us Reed back he’d fit nicely into the team!

That might be who I was thinking of, as Master Bates confirmed that Dibaga played last week.

Would he? We’ve got four players in that position, the complaints now are that none of them are big and physical enough. I’m not sure 5’9" Reed solves that issue, if you believe it is one.

Jander is 6' tall.

Is it a 10pm or 11pm window slamming shut deadline?

In line with the equalities act, the window will no longer be slamming shut. Instead it will soft close at 11pm or 12pm if you are in France.

Not sure if anyone's mentioned it but surely Ramsdale is now competition for Peretz? Or are they going to keep him out the picture? Would be mad if so given his wages.

Maybe if we play him we will be due a big add-on payment / contract bonus threshold we can't afford? Could explain why he doesn't even make the bench when he clearly is better than Long

I think we’re working hard to secure another forward on loan before the deadline, while briefing Alfie House and others that our business is done beyond Abbott. If someone arrives, it’s a surprise signing; if nobody does, the line is: “We told you we were done.”

I just can’t imagine us sanctioning Archer’s departure - and potentially Edozie’s too - without replacing at least one of them.

We've already replaced one of them with the dobbin arrival

Pretty normal that he has been left out so far. Tonda said earlier in the season that Baz and Ramsdale had been told that Peretz and Long would be prioritised as the two other were expected to leave.

If Ramsdale is still here when every other window also has slammed shut, he will probably be reintegrated.

If he is still not number two after that, it may be because of a hefty bonus upon being named in the match day squad.

I assume we can sign Solly March outside of the window, if we even want to, given he’s a free agent? Would give us some scope to see if someone does come in for Edozie at the last minute?

I will refer you to my earlier post describing how much of a sick note he has been recently

True, but isn’t ’a knock’ secret squirrel talk for “I don’t want you to play for us anymore” or vica versa? 😉

He did play their last three games last season to see out his contract.

Solly March

32yo winger with persistent knee injury.

Since 21st October 2023 - season ending knee injury - out for over a year.
2024-25 - Came off the bench 8 times. Injured for the rest
2025-26 - Played 2', 1' and 31' in the last 3 games of the season for Brighton, 4' in March. Out for the rest of the season through injury. Departed Brighton at the end of the season and hasn't played this year yet.

Dobbin was supposed to be the Azaz alternative.

Yeah, but seeing as Azaz plays almost every minute of every match when fit, he is probably not just the Azaz alternative. They probably see him playing in several roles, and have probably sold him on that idea, even though Preston fans say he is shit as anything other than 10…

not wanting to sound like someone flapping but our striker alternatives leave me worrying. We are relying on Larin keeping injury free way too much. The City lad might turn out to be really good but after that ???

We will leave any incoming announcement to the very last minute. We always do. At least we will have an actual game of football to distract us.

Genuinely not sure what benefit there is to letting archer, bbd and downs leave with no replacement. Obviously please to get the latter two off our wage bill but surely archer could have done a job if we can't get anyone else.

Personally I think that Wood or Abbott will be the bold name in the RCB position, but otherwise this seems to be where we are. JWP and Abbot can both cover for Bree if Roerslev heads off to a late deadline league.

We against expectation signed Peretz and Larin, and kept Scienza and Jander. That feels like a win - even if the depth isn't quite what we got used to last year.

When that first 11 is fit and firing we'll give any team in the division a tough game. Tonda and the medical staff did really well with rotation and keeping the team healthy. We're out of the EFL Cup so hopefully that will help too.

Not really fussed myself. The side looks ok and we probably don't need too many more.

Back up GK still worries me unless Ramsdale stays. What would be worse is not signing a keeper and then Ramsdale leaves for one of the countries with late closing windows leaving us with Peretz, Long and, well, Moody I guess.

2 strikers is also not strong enough although Dobbie can play there if needed but I'd want another striker. If Edozie goes we're short wide too.

Our first team is really decent but the squad would be a bit fragile.

I thought Dobbin was fulfilling Dragan's pledge to buy "a high-quality number 10 to support and ease the heavy burden on Finn Azaz", ergo, not a replacement for Archer or Edozie...?

I think we're making a mistake if we don't bring in one more option. Archer had some decent moments at the tail end of last season so I would have liked him around if it was a case of him or nobody else...

Yes. We'll be hoping we don't hit an injury crisis or we'll be in trouble. Later season games with tired legs will be interesting too but... there is the January window if needed. With potentially money to spend. We just have to get to January with what we have unless we get some late arrivals. Or use the free agents.

guys on the last day of the window here are some class comments on last season's windows 😉

There is a reason we have a guy paid to make these calls.

Larin

  • “Absolute shite… older, slower version of Downs.” -Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd
  •  “looks fucking shit from all angles… hasn’t done anything anywhere. Bravo Spors.” - CBFry

Scienza —

Rumour on the Forest forum is that Zach Abbott will sign a new contract there before coming here and we will not have the option to buy. Gutted if true especially if he turns out to be really good. They're protecting their asset I guess. Even so we need a CB. Plus still nothing stopping us trying to buy him next summer if he's a hit.

We have two strikers to cover four months (21 games). Fingers cross it might be enough.

How are the other championship sides stocked? Do they all have three (or more) for that one striker position?

I mean, if Alfie says Abbot is only one coming in then at 5.53pm, I think that's what it is. I was hopeful earlier that there was something in the offing but now Abbot on loan with no buy option... Not sure about it.

Brilliant to lose them from the wage bill, but having a third striker to cover an injury would be very handy.

Archer has been really underwhelming, but the couple of goals he scored at the end of the season were really well taken. So you make a good point.

Would have been perfect to have Ballard or JJM at this point, young talent pushing for a place. Sadly it was not to be.

the flip side is that its a really good sign that they rate him highly, which means he's got talent. Better that then them seemingly being very happy to offload?

Yeah if we had a young up and coming striker in the youth team then it would be more understandable but we let the likely candidate leave on loan in Oyekunle. Larin and Mubama leaves us thin on the ground up top. This is a key promotion season. Same as GK position... thin.

I'm glad that no interest is being shown in Scienza/Azaz/Jander as things stand.

Just as important as anyone arriving for me.

There will have been interest, but we must have put some bloody big price tags on those three guys. Assuming it stays that way (no interest backed by a monster bid), we have to get promoted this season or we'll likely have to consider offers.
