brightspark Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 Thought i'd add a bit of humour on the board in this dark dark morning over in Southampton. Where will Andrew Surman go? Do you think he is 'ready for the Premier League'? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/7777584.stm I still can't believe he said that. saints_is_the_south Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 Surman ready for the premiership? Last time i checked today wasn't April Fools day! The only player we have that is anyhere near being a premiership player based on current form is Kelvin, the rest wouldn't stand a hope in hell playing in the prem, infact it would be quite embarassing watching them do so. sfcmick Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 Not good enough for Eastleigh, Prem you are having a laugh. Far too light weight in every department. massive dissappointment over the last few seasons. No real loss at all!
RobM Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 He will either go to a newly Prem relegated club and stay in the CCC, or will sit on the bench at a Prem club. For some reason other clubs and managers seem to rate him, so there will be interest.
Greenridge Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 Massively over-rated by many and a lightweight. Has had a very poor season in a very poor team and hardly put himself in the shop window - well perhaps the Pound Shop I s'pose.

Ken Tone Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 Well I for one do rate him .. ok not yet as premiership standard .. but he is a good player and he is a local lad who seems to care about the club, unlike most of our mercenaries, so personally I want to se him here next season ------ assuming there is a 'here' to be at. Do you think he is 'ready for the Premier League'? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/southampton/7777584.stm I still can't believe he said that. I hate this. This is why I want to see a statue of Matt Le Tissier by the players entrance with 'LOYALTY' on the plinth. Players are obviously now starting to get themselves out of the sinking ship. Surman can go... call yourself a Saints fan Drew? Pah! I think he's actually playing at League 1 standard with CCC potential at best if I'm honest. I hope we sell him to Peterborough. Still, happy if the kids all want to leave.

SaintRobbie Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 (edited) I bet we dont see one of his lone walk about clapping the fans after the game tomorrow. If we do I know I will be tempted to boo him after this. He should keep his mouth shut and play as well and as professionally as he can for us until we sell him because he isnt any good. redorwhitelion Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 Professional footballer wants to play at the highest level possible and earn as much money as possible shocker. He may be a Southampton lad, but this is also his career. What do people expect? We never know what we have until its gone, it was the same when Beattie was here and he turned out to really crap - crazy. Why be loyal to a club when the fans turn against you after you first poor run of form. The levels of bile here never fail astonish. If he does move on good luck to him. Crab Lungs Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 The bitterness displayed to this local lad who cares about this club is exactly why some of you dumb fu.c.kers deserve this club. Constant hatred on this site, and whilst Surman might have underperformed this year, does he deserve some of the comments? Likewise Lowe, likewise Wilde. I have always said there is a high percentage of Saints fans are just hellbent on whinging and moaning and criticising, it's something in the air around here.. and every day i look at this forum, it reaffirms my belief. Its bloody disgusting some of the things that are said on this forum and as far I'm concerned, you tossers have got exactly what you deserve. Marino Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 Crab Lungs - you know your average football fan is as thick as sh*t, and Saints have always had more than their fair share as evidenced by some of the dross that inhabit this forum, and highlighted by this thread. I hope Surman stays but good luck to him should he move on to a club that befits a player who until recently was an England U21 regular.
dcsfc Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 Firstly I want to say we the supporters have done our bit all season as allways!! but the players have failed us with there DISMAL lack of effort and passion!!!! Although I do NOT put them in the same mould as lowe etc, There HAS to be alot of blame at the feet of the players, Ive lost count of how many times players have come out and said we are up for this fight, we can do this, the lads are ready, BLAH BLAH BLAH! Monday for instance after another disapointing no "Bottle" display kelvin davis came out and said we players now realise the situation we are in!!!! FOR GOD SAKE, HOW MANY DEFEATS AND LOOKS AT THE LEAGUE TABLE DOES IT TAKE FOR SOMTHING TO START SINKING IN!!!! THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN OVER 20 YEARS OF SUPPORTING SFC I HAVE FELT SO NEGATIVE TOWARDS THE SQUAD OF PLAYERS, I CAN HONESTLEY SAY I WILL NOT BE SORRY TO SEE ANY OF THIS CURRENT BUNCH GO!! I JUST FEEL SORRY FOR THE CLUBS THEY WILL END UP AT. THAT ASIDE, SFC WILL LIVE ON, HOPEFULLY WITH A NEW OWNER AND A FRESH START ALL ROUND! Barry the Badger Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 Surman has lost his way here a bit now. Always thought he was at his best as a winger but he's barely played there for 2 seasons. He will go to a good CCC club and do quite well I expect. If he did stay he would be a great assett in League 1 with a manager that could get the best out of him. I agree, he will be a good player in a good side where he does not have to carry the expectation placed upon him because he is a local boy and a fan. Hes lived the dream, its not worked out and if he has to move on good luck to him. If we get bought and he stays then he will be one of the best players in L1 for sure. Chez Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 Agreed. Hasn't played well on a consistant basis for two years now. How long will some people keep making excuses for him? Inconsistent yes, but for periods in those two years he has been good. He's not playing well at the moment I grant you, but why on earth would you write off a 22 year old midfielder that quite clearly has ability? How long did you give BT to find his feet I wonder (probably no time at all alogn with Fuller, Jones etc.) BT didn't set the world alight until his mid twenties. As previous posters have already said, some of you are far too critical. Surman is going to improve with age and he is exactly the sort of player I want to watch at Southampton. redorwhitelion Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 NO-ONE is criticising him for wanting to leave if we go down, they're criticising his half arsed effort and performance over the last year or more. Why do so many on here insist on arguing against points that were never made. Please refer to Saintrobbie's previous post where he referred to 'LOYALTY' (his capitals not mine) and the 'sinking ship'. Not a dig at Robbie specifically, but just pointing out the inaccuracy of your statement.
Junior Mullet Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 He will do well in the Prem with better players around him. See him in a 12 - 16th placed sort of Prem team personally. Good luck to the lad, he's done well for us, despite what some may say. Can't fault him for wanting to push on at this stage in his career rather than resigning himself to the possibility of a career in the lower leagues. I met Surman a while back along with BWP, Dyer etc and I have to say I thought he was a thoroughly good lad, happy to talk etc unlike the other two chuckle-heads he was with. crouchi Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 He's a good player dragged down by the rest of the side over the last few months. Sure to shine in a decent team, and has scored more goals than anyone apart from DMG.
Andy_Porter Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 He will do well in the Prem with better players around him. See him in a 12 - 16th placed sort of Prem team personally. Which team and in which position? IMO he's not strong enough to play in the centre of midfield, not quick enough to play on the wing and not strong enough to play right back. If all those flaws are exposed in the CCC then I don't see how he would get into a midtable premiership side. If he's very very lucky he will get bought by a promoted CCC side and even then he would look out of his depth. He's far too inconsistent to play in the premiership and midtable Championship is his level atm.
Window Cleaner Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 Don't know and don't care, a severe disappointment this season. I would rather have had whatever we could have got for him,Lallana,Skacel,BWP,Dyer,Euell and Saganowski in January. Be it just a million for all of them. The team wouldn't have been much worse, we'd probably have gotten relegated anyway but we wouldn't be in administration and we wouldn't be starting in League 1 on -
hypochondriac Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 I know many will leave but would like to keep if we can: Davis, Perry, Saejis, James, Surman, Lallana, DMG and Holmes I think a lot of them are low on confidence. Given a decent manager Lallana and Surman could reach the level they were at at the end of last season.
teamsaint Posted 24 April, 2009 Share Posted 24 April, 2009 Surman will prove , if it neede proving, that most of our problems are at management level. Stoke are staying afloat with Higgy, fuller, and delap. kevin Davies thrives at Bolton, dex is doing the business in the CCC .Dyer is wanted by a far better team than us. Etc etc. The reason sooooooooooo many of our players look poor is that they are poorly managed, by the ever changing SMS management team(s). If we do not learn that lesson we really are our own worst enemies. Surman will thrive at a solid club like Reading. lallana will prove to be a class act. They will be our loss and others gain.
