Gillett for Leicester?

That's the talk among the Leicester fans. Gillett has rarely been mentioned in the transfer speculation but, injuries apart, he's possibly had a better season than many of our higher profile youngsters. Central midfield is a real weak spot,so his departure would be a big loss.

I'd be gutted if we lost Gillett. He's one of the few players that I would really like us to keep and I can see him becoming a star player for us next season, providing he stays at St Mary's. Fingers crossed we reject any bids for him and that he remains a Saint for the foreseeable future!

Gillett has been one of the few players coming out of last season with any credibility. But the fact that Leicester rate him just points up further what a good judge of a player Pearson was.

Indeed, it was Pearson who brought Gillett in from the wilderness and started including him in the matchday squads.

I'm sure that sadly for us, the lad may well re-unite with the man who beleived in him during his time at Saints.

He will be picked off like any of our good young players. There wont be a CCC club who usnt looking at our squad and trying to take our better players. We are open to the vultures. if only we could go into administration...right

True love is a wonderful thing - but your hero only gave him two brief goes as a substitute

Which is more than Idiot George gave him !

He was "loan fodder" for ages until Pearson started to include him in the squads.

I Think Pearson showed more astuteness in beleiving in one of our young budding talents than Georgie did in beleiving in the overpaid, constantly injured and lazy Idiakez for example.

He believed in him so much...

Can't help but feel that they already have better players than Gillett and will be looking to bring in loan players who will also be better than Gillett...which would mean if they were to try and pick him up it would probably just be as a squad player...

If the lad has any ambition he should realise that staying at Saints and having a good season playing 90% of the games and improving himself would without question be the best move for his career...

Sadly footballers are in general a stupid breed so he may not appreciate this...

Having said that he's always struck me as appearing to be a little more humble than your average footballer...

oh yeah and Gb would have been applauded for playing him instead of Safri etc lol.

A lot of young players learn their trde by being loaned out even Beckham did, how stupid of Fergie

There's going to be talk about any and all of our players at the moment. All of them will be thinking about their next steps - as there is a distinct possibility that none of them will have a job in the very near future.

If we are still watching a team in red and white next year, I'd very much like Gillett to be in it. If we are not, good luck to him wherever he goes. This season, he added a great deal of entertainment value through his sheer determination and energy, and watching him win headers against players that were 20cm taller than him was a real joy.

at what level?

imo he would be a good solid division 3 player, which is what we are in now.

I thought he was one of our most important players at championship level, although that's not saying much. He's not great technically but he ran his socks off and got the tackles in, often those kind of players are the most important in the team.

You see i disagree...he's more than capable of showing great technique and can be one our best passers of the ball in terms of vision and technique on his day...where he needs to step up is in the consistency of passing...and not giving the ball away cheaply...something which i think he's capable of...

We definetly need to keep hold of Gillett, he was sorely missed when he got injured last season, and has a good deal of experience of the league we now find ourselves in, so will be an integral part of the team next season.

He'd be even better if he had the confidence to shoot more often as well, I saw him hit some really sweet shots from outside the box for the reserves a few years back.

It is no surprise to me that Pearson might be interested in Gillett. Apart from the fact he had a decent season and is good enough at this level, I said at the end of the previous season that Pearson highly rated Gillett and would have played him at the end of the season had it not been for the relegation battle. I saw several times Pearson walking off the pitch with his arm round Gillett (having not brought him off the bench) in an effort to say `you will get your chance son'.

Gillett is another player we must aim to keep if we are to do anything next season. He is not perfect by any means but he is busy, combative and extremely fit.

I suspect that Pearson is interested in Gillett for precisely the same reasons that Pearson himself was a mainstay of the teams he played for during a long and steady career. Gillett has many of the same attributes that Pearson had. He always gives 100% effort, plays with heart and soul, never gives up trying. Some players are gifted with supreme skills that mark them out, but apart from them, the ones that you would want in your squad are these true professionals who give their all for the cause.

In many ways, Gillett is our Scholes, a terrier of a player, a fighter. If we had a team of players possessing the attributes that he has, then we could have reasonable hopes of gaining promotion next season, despite the points deduction. Leicester under Pearson identified those players that suited him and developed that mentality into others and if he is interested in Gillett, he obviously recognises the role that he could bring to his team, so we ought to strive to keep him if at all possible.

Strangely enough I to have always thought that Gillett's style of play was very similar to a young Paul Scholes, Also thought that if I mentioned that on SWF they would send the men in the white coats around for me, Ok now there is two of us

Really hope he doesn't leave. He's about the only player in our first team squad who doesn't come accross as a bit of a *****. Also he'd be perfect for us in League one.

Can we not just get someone to tell Leicester how amazing Schneiderlin is?!

Who can decide whether to sell at the moment? It must be Mark Fry and I would think that he would want to keep the current best players so he can negotiate the best price with any buyers. We will not get market value if they are sold while we're in administration so I think all the players will stay until any sale of the club is completed.

One of the few who came out of last season with any credit. He would be on my (very short) list of 1st team players that should be kept if at all possible: Davis, James, Perry, Saeijs, Gillett. That would be it as far as I'm concerned, all the others should be shipped out as soon as possible (I would be OK with Euell staying on reduced wages)

Yup, remember Pearson very obviously going out of his way and putting his arm around Gilletts shoulder at one of the home games last year and walking him down the dugout. He very clearly liked him as a player.

I wonder if this is a case of HCDAJFU (on the part of Leicester fans ), or is there more substance in the rumour from NP side ?
