Plymouth Argyle are set to announce the signing of former Southampton striker Bradley Wright-Phillips.

The 24-year old frontman is available as a free agent after his three-year contract with the Saints expired in June.

The Pilgrims' are expected to announce the signing of Wright-Phillips early this week and his first appearance in a Green shirt could be in the pre-season friendly against Torquay United on Wednesday.

Wright-Phillips is the biological son of former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright and half-brother of England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.

The 5-foot 8-inch tall striker signed for Southampton from Manchester City in 2006 for a £750,000 transfer fee and has a league career goal-scoring record of 24 goals from 143 appearances, although 84 of those were as a substitute.

When he puts his mind to it he can be a very good player as this "carefully edited" :D video shows. People on this board are wrong that he lacked ability. Shame it didn't happen much.

Prime example of a player who relyed to much on his associations and let the club down off the field , did not realise how lucky he was to be playing for SFC, shame he did not make full advantage of that luck and put his professon first.

Lack of ability has nothing to do with the fact that i am happy to see the back of the little sh:t...

Sometimes he was good when he came on a sub imo, but he just couldn't perform consistantly over a whole game. Shame he never really got it together here because he did show glimpses of class. it's the right move for player and club.

Ideally I'd like him to stay as I think he could score 15+ goals in League One under the right management, but won't be surprised if he does leave. If he does go, which is looking increasingly likely, then I wish him all the best.

He is a terrible player, always straying offside, runs around like a headless chicken and very rarely will you ever see him score a 1 on 1.

Ok, every now and again he does something slightly predictable but for that to be a positive quality in a striker you need him to at least consistently perform well and so the bread and butter things like score 1 on 1's.

Could have been a decent player with us, clearly needs some half decent guidance, something our recent managers clearly haven't been very good at! Has pace and to be fair some of his finishes are superb execution wise, just look at the goal vs Charlton this season. Has something about him but fitness is a major issue in my mind, just look at how good he was 1st half vs burnley against how knackered he looked 2nd half where he had little effect.

Think the video sums him up unfortunately, 6 mins of quality over what? 3 years! :-p I'd keep him on reduced wages else good luck at Plymouth.

He's plays like a twelve year old who thinks he's the best in the playground. My lad's team (now under sixteen) have couple like that - plenty of potential talent but no ability whatsoever to transfer it into something useful. At under twelve or fourteen everyone thinks their the bees b*ll*cks, at sixteen they struggle to make the starting eleven. This will be his last big payday & I will be glad if it's not us giving it to him

Good luck to the lad I say...I think people are being very harsh on him. He was never the greatest player, granted. But he never really got a good run in the team to show his potential. A bit part player. Would do very well at this level. The people still giving him grief about the robbing incident - just let it go. For one, he didn't actually steal anything, he just stood there laughing like an idiot (Though, in no way am I condoning his part in what happened). But to call him a liar and a thief is a joke. Let's move on. People need to be given second chances (who hasn't made mistakes in their lives and not looked back and regretted something that they have done?), and I agree with Dicko and think under the right manager directing him and coaching him he would thrive... Good luck BWP.

Just another thread for people to slag off a departing player...

Not gone yet though...

If he stays and does well??? Will you take it all back?

I wonder how many would have had a pop at KD if he had actually gone?

Not me. KD made 2 cork-ups that got him pilloried. BWP was a regular disapointment. As stated he was appalling at 1-on1's and as for the offside law .........???

If he goes I might even look back fondly on him. I will be even ruder about him if he stays. I wouldn't have been so anti him if he'd been a talentless trier - and we've had a few, but he has talent but not the brain or application to use it. That is what frustrates me

So let me get this right, are actually saying you will abuse him if he stays?

I want to see a video compilation of all those missed chances.....

You know the ones.... where he was one on one with the keeper and still managed to put it wide or spoon it over the top.... week in, week out......

That video will be about 3 hours long on youtube

What I actually said, Kermit, was that I will be even ruder about him on here. I never abuse the players at a match. And I would have thought even a muppet like you could see it was said as a joke. However, I still don't rate him as a player based on the evidence of my own eyes
