Standing Ovation Tonight

Nice one chaps - very encouraging.

Rave reviews by Radio 5 Live team

Good, so the journey to recovery has finally started. No doubt more bad days but sounds like we have the beginnings of a football team instead of a joke at long last

I'd post a line of applauding smileys but they no longer work for old f*rts with IE7

I put it down to the focus on Fringe Players:cool:

Weakened Birmingham team, home advantage, big support again - I dont think a win tonight was impossible.

We lost (again) I cant celebrate that

Well what a weird response. We lost sure but to a team far above us at the moment. By all accounts it was a much improved performance and that's what I'm looking for in things like cup competitions which largely don't matter.

each to there own - i speak for myself and I wouldnt celebrate/applaud a defeat. nobody is having a 'pop'

They applauded the team for their efforts tonight, not because of the loss. You,re a miserable git and none of your posts ever seem to be positive. "Happy clap" on that!!

If you lived in Glasgow you'd be miserable.

Saints deserved the applause tonight. I thought that the team played some of the best football that I have seen them play for a long time and they couldn`t be faulted for effort. Had the Murty injury not happened, I think that we would probably had won. We lost because the difference between Prem and L1 just about told in the end.

It was great to walk out of the ground with our heads held high,it was a good night ...even though we lost . The boys worked hard against some very dirty play and I really felt the shoots of recovery from our near terminal illness were there ..roll on Saturday COYR

weakend brum team??? hardly!!

we totally out played them, until murty got ****ted and forced us to change it. The ref was a joke, the worst ive seen in years!

Lloyd played well in CM, was very shocked to see him start there but i hope its not the last time.

Was a good performance - shame about the result. Can't help thinking the performance against Brum last season in the same comp was a good performance too - and then we went pear-shaped for the rest of the season. Hopefully the reverse will happen this time. Any news on Murty...and what was the opinion of the 5-live team?

I was very surprised at how strong a team Birmingham put out... wasn't it mostly their first team out there tonight?[/QUOTE]

M.Taylor, Ridgewell, O'Connor, Phillips, Jerome, Fahey, Ferguson, Johnson, McFadden, Bent & Hart didn't start the game so I think it's safe to say they didn't exactly play their first 11 !!

I am playing devil's advocate here, as we did not have our strongest 11 out either, but as they made 7 changes from their last Prem game v Man City I think you have to accept that this was probably not their recognised first team !!

Saints will do the usual follow a good display with a poor loss..

TBH it sounds like my perfect dream. Saints lose and leave this pointless cup competition, and put in a decent performance to boost confidence. I would have been so angry if we had beaten Birmingham and lost on Saturday. I would have probably smashed up my laptop, because WE ARE IN A RELEGATION BATTLE and the league is way more important to anything else. We must win on Saturday, and I am glad we got beaten.

We made Birmingham look like spare pri*ks at a wedding.

Need to turn this into results urgently though.

Yes I thought we were going to win before Murty went off

However Birmingham probably did make better chances and their defence were quick to react when we were attacking

still lost - may aswell celebrate defeats I suppose

I was applauding the best Saints performance at home in a good two seasons, we were very unlucky to lose and ran the game for 70 minutes. They haven't played that well since Reading away last season.

we were rubbish, well thats how it sounded on the commentary on the radio

Probably best to leave the analysis to the people who actually saw our team running their guts out, closing down, passing effectively at a high tempo and generally running the show for the majority of the match against Premier League opposition then ?

It took them kicking us after the ball had gone for an hour before Birmingham took over, it wasn't fitness, it was more the dampening effect of seeing Murty stretchered off, along with the loss of James in the middle - and the usual act of giving Gillett a hospital ball when marked by two players facing his own goal in his first 5 seconds on the pitch, which has happened in about 3 matches now and tends to limit his effectiveness...

Fair play – you were at the game I wasn’t. My comment was made more because of the disappointment of the result. On reflection, if the team played well (despite losing) then applauding/show of appreciation is a requisite.

Like I said – knee jerk reaction based purely on disappointment.

What would you say was the main change last night? Sounded more positive and by all accounts the ref was poor?

You must have had it tuned to the wrong game then.

Seriously what were you listening to as the old man called me walking home from the game saying it sounded as though we played really well and were unlucky.

With all due respect given the overwhelming number of positive responses with regards the performance from those who saw it first hand, then I have to question your interpretation of someone elses view of the game.

unless you actually went nick..i would suggest you should respect the opinions of those who did..

Infact, dont even talk about the game please..

Yes we played really well and I thought we could have won but I think Birmingham's superior fitness proved decisive in the end.

After your comments after the last game I thought I was watching a completely different team.

Even Wotton played OK and James was pretty good in Midfield

It was well worth a tenner although the fiver spent on this forum is even better value
