St Marco Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 A lot of people moaning as always that we didn't get Ronaldo or Torres etc. But would be nice to see how the more sensible supporters see our transfer activity this season? With Hammond,Trotman,Lambert,Mellis,Harding,Murty,Jaidi and Papa Waigo that makes 8 new players in just under a month. A very busy time for the club then in terms of people incoming. So how do you see it, happy with those 8 players or not happy? Personally im very happy

Nexstar Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Pardew has certainly identified the positions that we were weak in and has got a player in each of them, except maybe another striker/winger (but that may come over the coming weeks). Very happy, just need things to click on the pitch now

Minty Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 More than happy. We now need to get them working together and producing results, but I am confident they will do so and that things will improve, but I still stand by my original desire to see us simply consolidate in mid-table this year (anything better is a bonus) and then, once we've got things working, to go for promotion next year. St Marco Posted 2 September, 2009 Author Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Can I wait until we have won a game (or two)? That would not be a poll on the transfer activity then would it BUT If we want to say talk about the performances of those who were brought in and have already played then again would say very happy because they have all done very well. We might not have won a game yet but deserved to. And obviously will eventually.

S-Clarke Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 I'm absolutely delighted if im honest. Everywhere we needed to strengthen, we have - but with proven quality Midfield - signed the captain and one of the best midfielders in L1 - hammond Striker - signed the best striker in L1. Lambert Defence - signed Jaidi, top championship defender, signed harding - top championship left back - Murty - solid championship right back. ...then trotman, very highly rated - did v v v well for colehster and Oldham at this level and has started well. ...and lets not forget the surprise...Papa...we needed pace, he's got it, we needed a right winger - he is that. We needed cover up front, he gives us that. Jury is still out on Mellis for me though, hopefully he'll settle in and show his quality eventually. ..but all in all, can't complain! Also we've still got Adam, Morgan, Davis and Saga (i hope he's now committed) When we gel, we will win and score with regular ease.
sussexsaint Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Very happy all of them look like very good players and I'm sure Melis will come good - this striker sounds good but I cant help but be reminded of Delgado until I see him play Once it all clicks we are going to be a very tough team to beat - we have (when fit) possibly the best back 4 and GK in the division and the best striker

CWD Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 delighted. I keep thinking back to when lambert signed and how happy i was - same with hammond and harding, basically accumulating the best players already in the league. Add the exciting prospects of Waigo and the undeniable quality of Jaidi - we have the makings of a quality side for L1. very happy indeed

Rebel Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 I don't think we finished yet! I wouldn't be surprised if Saga and Morgan went out on loan for the rest if the season - and maybe one or two players coming in on loan. Perhaps the swap with Leicester - Saga on loan for Gradel on loan will still happen. There are are also a few free transfers still out there - Joe Keenan and Owusu-Oweybyu (or whatever his name is) have just been released. The Dutch bloke tore us apart when he played for Brum City. Good players coming in for our level, an experienced manager and a bit of money behind us - a much rosier picture than 3 months ago. Just a couple of wins away from given me a warm feeling. I realise we had players who didn't want to compete at our currentl level so to get rid of Surman, Euell, Mcgoldrick, BWP, Rasiak, John etc and bring in what we have is good business - I wish those who have departed good luck in their new ventures. Again - i was surprised we got him, seeing as he did well for Reading at the back end of last year and was part of their play off games. Not as good as bale technically, but arguably the best we have had since him - and IMO much more solid defensively.
Pilchards Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 I think it's an insult to the club being in this league with the good list of players we have. We are quite capable of winning 8 games out of 10 on average which can get you to the playoffs at best. However it's a shame that the current bunch are at least 5 more games away from being 90 minutes match fit IMHO, once we achieve that then the big 4's & 5's goal wins will come often. Very happy with the signings and whilst there is nothing wrong with demanding more (As in the playoffs) I still think this season is more about survival and consolidation than promotion. Survive this season, keep the bulk of the squad together and next year we will fly

Mellis was the only signing that didn't stand out as being an obvious fit into our system. Murty/Harding/Jaidi/Trotman/Lambert/Hammond probably all would've done a job for us last season. Still a little worried about Saga & Morgan's mind-set. If Saga goes, we'll still be short up front.

I'd like to think that at the first opportunity Pardew will get the squad away for some type of team building event. As to the injuries - Murty's doesn't sound as if he'll be back anytime soon. Holmes well lets wait and see.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 (edited) The jury's still out on Mellis but the rest are (or at least seem to be) good business . We've a few in the squad (Molyneux Pulis Bialkowski) who could have probably been shipped out in a ideal world but all in all Pardrew's done well I'd say . Financially we've actually made a profit of around £1.5m this summer so Mr Liebherr should be happy : Income* - c £3m (Dyer DMG Surman Rasiak) Expenditure** - c £1.5m (Lambert Hammond) * Rasiak fee undisclosed but probably £250-500k . This takes no account of likely saving on player wage bill . ** Excluding any unknown loan fees , signing on bonus's etc... Edited 2 September, 2009 by CHAPEL END CHARLIE Forgotten Rasiak already . *Halo* Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Very pleased with our new players. If Waigo is going to be playing right wing, I'd like to see a new quick striker come in on loan with option to buy, or if he'll be used up front, then still feel we need another pacey right winger. Overall though, no complaints. We've addressed the major areas of concern, and brought in some players of the quality that will improve the squad, rather than just adding more back up players as in the past. All in all, a successful transfer window.

eurosaint Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 A sensible, rational approach to rebuilding a broken structure ! We are now pretty much set up to move forward, Cortese and Pardew have done exactly what they said they would do and you can't say fairer than that ! Step 2 is to settle as a motivated unit with team spirit as it's core ! Optimistic, you bet I am !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COYS
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 imo Lambert's arrival was the biggest "statement" of intent - and it showed there is an element of ambition. AP has done well considering the lack of time and back room staff - now we just need to sign a shrink to toughen the players up mentally.

SNSUN Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Who can't be happy! We've strengthened the positions that needed strengthening, with better players than we had. Everything we've asked for as fans we've got, two centre backs, two full backs, a goal scoring striker, midfield grit and a pacy player. One more loan to cover the right back slot and we'll be laughing all the way to midtable.

Super_Saint Posted 2 September, 2009 Share Posted 2 September, 2009 Delighted to be honest.. If I was told we where going to hold on to the likes of Kelvin Davis, Lallana, Morgan, Saga etc. when we got relegated I would've been happy with that but we've brought in some quality players that would get into any team in this league. Every position we said needed strengthening Pardew answered. We've got a billionaire owner, Great manager and Quality players for this league..I wouldn't of dreamed of this when we got relegated. Nobody should be complaining!. Roll on Saturday !!!
