Strength in depth in coaches!

It's as good a setup as we've had for a long time.

That's why im so pleased we made a clean slate from last season, although they gave their all for us in the end - Killer / Wotte and Gore do not compete with the likes of Pards / Wilkins / Downes/ Murdoch for their knowledge of this level.

Much better, a win should be coming our way soon - followed by a stretch of them once these guys make their mark.

If people like Wally Downes cannot get these players responding and performing then we're a lost cause to be frank.

Think it will do nicely ! I don't think the importance of this should be overlooked, with the losing mentality which is all but ingrained I think the coaches will play a very important role in hopefully restoring the player's belief which is a crucial ingredient still missing IMO.

Steve Coppell on his way next I reckon as Sporting Director/director of Football role. Which will be great as long as Alan Pardew is happy with it and the two don't have roles that overlap.

As I said on the other thread that would be awesome!! Hopefully Henderson will be on his way now and we can start preparing the younger players and reserves with the right "tools" for when they are called up for the first team.

You convinced me last week it was going to be sooner but now it is going to be later

im with you....after the brentford game I was not too sure...after the Stockport game I was concerned..after saturdays results I am very worried..yet that is seen as negative...I think I am the realist not negative..

not many teams in this league get anything remotely close to what have done in the last few weeks...yet they can win a game with some god awful players..

I know I cannot believe it .

I have only seen one game this season against Birmingham and we were quite good and before the Murty injury I thought we going go to win

With some shame I admit that I was championing Wotte who I thought under the circumstances had done as well as could be expected. I had no idea that we were int the running for this kind of set up in League One. This is just no comparison!

Since AP and his crew appears to have sorted or defensive frailties he now has to concerntrate on the offensive shortcomings. Wally D seems to be the man to keep the defense together and obliterate the psychological weaknesses. By october/november we should be a power in this division. Late according to some, but it will bring our spirits back and more than ready for next season.

i know it's a cliche, but every great team is built on a solid defence.

Make no mistake, our defending last year was abominable. A team would get a corner or Free-kick against us and they may as well have been awarded a penalty, such was our susceptibility at set-plays.

We started the season with signs of the same frailties (See Swindon & Huddersfield away) every game since then we've improved in those areas and now have a very solid base that will be invaluable once the goals start flowing. That's one of the key reasons to remain positive IMO

Lets not forget an egg chaser.

Yep, because we really do not need any advice from someone who has won a major competition and knows a thing or two about sports psychology. Nope, lets carry on the way we are and who knows, we might even end up as a Sunday park team if we carry on in our current vein of success!

Think we now have coaching staff of 4 -all 4 managed in football league in their own right!

Is that enough "English managers with knowledge of this league" for us I wonder?

I think it might be added " with some degree of SUCCESS " in managing at this level. Pure knowledge doesn't automatically give you the right answers.

I think that we are missing the team spirit we had when they took part in character building activities like clay pigeon shooting, which also indirectly taught co-ordination and good anticipation. I wonder whether we have anybody with contacts in the farming community who might be able to recommend somebody able to arrange events like that?

In my opinion it was the appointment of Woodward that set us even more firmly on a path that almost saw the obliteration of the club. That appointment, along with that of the utter nonentity Clifford set in motion the deplorable plummet towards extinction, from which we were rescued at the 11th hour.

If he'd been the Emperor's tailor, none of us wouldn't have been able to see the suit he'd made, and you'd still be telling us that he won an award once for making women's underwear.

Woodward COULD have worked if he was just an advisor....that had nothing to do with the first team...maybe he could have just out across ideas for facilities, team building exercises, sport science etc that could have benefited the team...but that would be it..

but no, he had to be Director of Football and tell everyone he had aspirations to be a manager....nice one

And I think this episode shows how bad RL could truly mess things up. I would say there were a fair few who bought into the idea of how SCW's non-football training methods could improve the non-footballing skills of the team like he did with the rugby team but the duo of Clifford* and Woodward ended up as an expensive joke.

*The bizarre appointment of Clifford ranks as high as the Ali Dia saga IMO.

I think he was Technical Director but probably knew more about football than most posters on here and if appointed by Cortose would be probably accepted by most fans.

There's nothing wrong with Hockey

You mean Trevor Hockey, aka 'the werewolf' ? Now there was a player. Saw him playing for Norwich once many years ago when I was at uni there. Sent off in the first few minutes.

As to this thread, the set up at Saints now seems excellent, the squad pretty strong (and will be better when Holmes and McLaggon are in it) and if I hadn't seen most of the games with own eyes I'd assume we'd have won 3 or 4 by now.

How we've gone 6 league games without a win with this team in this league is beyond understanding.

K.
