Colinjb Posted 3 October, 2009 Share Posted 3 October, 2009 To me it is nothing more than a friendly - don't want to sound arrogant but I am embarressed to even be in this competition. It may be a reflection of how low we have sunk in recent years but to consider it an embarrasment is an insult to the other clubs that participate in it. We should be going for the trophy, show the competition the respect it deserves as the chance for clubs at this level to have a showpiece competition. We are at this level, it's ours to fight for. Attendance, well, I doubt many share my view, 7,500.

We could easily win this cup and it could be the first trophy of many. We are where we are and we should be competing for everything. Let's get the winning mentality and start right here!! John Boy Saint Posted 3 October, 2009 Share Posted 3 October, 2009 Chuffin hell some people really need to pull their heads out of their backsides, we ain't going to get a sniff of the Champions League for quite a while so lets make the most of where we are and get a seasonally hard earned bit of silverware in the cabinet. Last seasons final was thoroughly entertaining game................... The chance to give Malwhinney the bird when he is presented to the players like Luton Fans did would be worth the effort getting to the final alone. beatlesaint Posted 4 October, 2009 Share Posted 4 October, 2009 I think a gate of about 7500 for this competition at this stage would be awesome.

saints_is_the_south Posted 4 October, 2009 Share Posted 4 October, 2009 15 notes for non season ticket holders on the day will put a lot of people off tho. I'd say between 7 & 8k
sotonjoe Posted 4 October, 2009 Share Posted 4 October, 2009 yep, ridiculous pricing structure. should have been a tenner in for adults, whenever you purchase the tickets.
The Tango Man Posted 4 October, 2009 Share Posted 4 October, 2009 This trophy is part of the package our club finds itself in..we need to be involved and not develope prima donna syndrome.
The Rover Posted 4 October, 2009 Share Posted 4 October, 2009 Pards says he wants to win it so he should put out a strong side. It's also an extra match that will help the team to gel. The cheap tickets and early KO should encourage a good turn out of youngsters and maybe some for the first time who will become firm fans. I still remember the look on my kids faces when they visited the Dell for the first evening match and got their forst sight of the lit up pitch. A lot more important than a friendly imho and I hope there is a good turn out.

dellgirl Posted 4 October, 2009 Share Posted 4 October, 2009 So agree with several posters,we have to learn to win again and the more practice the team has to play together the better..how many of our current team have played at Wembley ? that is quite an incentive ,and ... to go there again,... as we move up the leagues with the support of everyone including us . Lets get behind them on Tuesday bring the kids and have a good evening out.
Right sider Posted 4 October, 2009 Share Posted 4 October, 2009 This is a competition with our only realistic chance of a trip to Wembley which shouldn't be sneezed at. If you have kids a great opportunity for them to see the floodlights. This is where we are so get behind the team.
Brussels Saint Posted 4 October, 2009 Share Posted 4 October, 2009 Also as a feelgood factor for the fans, who will probably need to spend another season in Div. 3. I know I would love a trip to Wembley, with a chance to win a trophy and finally have some good news for this club. Imagine Markus being given the trophy on the pitch, to show off to 30000 Saints fans after a victorious Wembley performance.........

The Fat Controller Posted 4 October, 2009 Share Posted 4 October, 2009 over 10,000 is achievable but i think Saints should have given out free tickets in a ballot to schools from Hampshire, Wilts, IOW, and Berks and should have given them the whole of the Chapel Stand. These kids are our future supporters, think of the lost revenue in food, Programmes & Merchandise- surely worth considering if we get through and get another home game especially with a 7pm KO

Saint_clark Posted 4 October, 2009 Share Posted 4 October, 2009 Still quite tempted by this, but I would be cutting it close - i'd have to get the 5.20 train from Weymouth, getting me into Southampton with about 10 minutes to kick-off and with tickets still to buy. Clifford Nelson Posted 4 October, 2009 Share Posted 4 October, 2009 To me it is nothing more than a friendly - don't want to sound arrogant but I am embarressed to even be in this competition. I don't agree and I hope AP doesn't blow the chance of using it to help honing the ideas he started putting into practice against Bristol by stuffing the team full of youngsters. Give Holmes a start, maybe, and Lallana a rest, which will tell him how dependent we really are on him. Rest Mellis and give Gillet a start and possibly also a starting birth for Perry who has not done anything wrong. But use the game wisely.

badgerx16 Posted 5 October, 2009 Share Posted 5 October, 2009 Wasn't there a quote from Nicola Cortese that he wanted to see some actual trophies in the cabinet, as all he had seen was a samurai sword ? This is an ideal opportunity to start filling it; First the JPT, next the League 1 title, then the CCC, then the League Cup ( with whichever sponsor's name is attached to it at the time ), the FA Cup, the Europa League, the Prem, the Champions League,.......... That should keep us going for about 5 years.

Ken Tone Posted 5 October, 2009 Share Posted 5 October, 2009 Why is it a 7pm KO? Doesn't leave much time between work & match I think the club has shot itself in the foot here. It has forgotten how many fans travel a fair way to games. I'm sure I'm not alone in finding it just about impossible to get to a 7pm k.o. after work. Even 7.45 is difficult with end-of-rush-hour traffic down the A34 and M3. In effect the club has decided to make it 'take the little kids' evening for only those people actually living and working in Southampton. Fair enough, but I hope later stage games in the JPT are at normal times. Will be the first home game in any competition (as opposed to friendlies) that I've missed n about 12 years. Give them a shout for me. K.

Ken Tone Posted 5 October, 2009 Share Posted 5 October, 2009 I agree it's stupid, but is it really the clubs that decide kick-off time? Well yes it is, unless the police say there is a crowd control/safety issue (surely not for this game) or the TV people dictate (also not for this game). K. Hopkins Posted 5 October, 2009 Share Posted 5 October, 2009 Love the idea of us being in this competition. The bloke who claimed its embarrasing and a friendly...Will you be going to Wembley if we get there? Joke competition but one I want to win. What sort of team we sticking out? I'd suspect Holmes, Saga, Pato to play. Lambert not and obviously Mellis isn't. Maybe Lallana on the bench. Jaidi wont play with a game on Friday either.
