Gemmel Posted 6 October, 2009 Share Posted 6 October, 2009 If we made it, it will be the first chance for a big % of our fans to see Saints at Wembley (Dont bother correcting about old and New Wembley). Iv'e only seen us there once and couldn't give a stuff what trophy it is- Would love to see us there again and good to see Pardew recognising the fans contribution. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/4665637.Pardew_wants_to_thank_Saints_fans_with_Wembley_win/

niceandfriendly Posted 6 October, 2009 Share Posted 6 October, 2009 This trophy will not be easy to win. To get to the final we'll have to beat teams in our own league and we haven't managed that too many times this season. Fingers crossed though. dubai_phil Posted 6 October, 2009 Share Posted 6 October, 2009 Oh, and anyway, we don't want to go to a cup final, this place would be in melt down with all the regulars not getting tickets because of the 50,000 plastics who will suddenly want tickets. To get to the final we'll have to beat teams in our own league and we haven't managed that too many times this season. Fingers crossed though. That's my thought too. West End Saint Posted 6 October, 2009 Share Posted 6 October, 2009 I am right in thinking we are only 4 games from Wembley in this comp ? we have to be in the top 4 favourites to win it I would think Leeds Charlton Norwich & us. Would be great to go to Wembley again & win something we have to give it a go as we have a more than realistic chance the other teams mentioned might think this comp will get in the way of promotion so come Saints give it a go. Been to Wembley twice to watch Saints F A Cup final v Mancs & League Cup final v Forest would be ace to go again.

benjii Posted 6 October, 2009 Share Posted 6 October, 2009 According to the Football League website, it is a rule of the competition that clubs must pick at least 6 of the players who have started the most first team games in the current season. That sounds quite bizarre to me, but there you go. http://www.football-league.co.uk/johnstonespainttrophy/news/support-your-team-on-road-to-wembley-20090901_2246525_1780709# Also when you factor in that getting to Wembley could be worth around £300-400,000 it makes you appreciate that there are a lot of teams who would love to do well in this as that represents a very significant additional income for a lot of the clubs in League One and Two. I went to the ZDS Cup Final and it was a good laugh, Mickey Mouse or not. Anyone who doesn't find some fun in the thought of the prospect of going to Wembley to lift the Paint Pot needs to chill out a bit IMO!

Let me ask you something: Would you be happy with Pardew risking players like Lambert and Lallana for the sake of progressing to the next round ? We have another game Friday night which is a lot more important. Yes absolutely I would...the team still needs to gel. As much time together in a match situation is exactly what they need. You can't be fearful and worry about injury every game...if that wad the case, only bring lambert out against Leeds, Charlton etc just so he's definitely fit for those games. You could rest players for this game, and they could trip over the dog at home, fall down the stairs, anything. Strong team, no matter what game it is. Brussels Saint Posted 6 October, 2009 Share Posted 6 October, 2009 Completely agree we should be putting out our strongest team. Badger Posted 6 October, 2009 Share Posted 6 October, 2009 (edited) Agree that this trophy provides an opportunity for a great day out.The chance to take the 'young badgers' to Wembley to watch their team there is a great possibility also. That will give them some edge over the glory seeking saps at their school who 'support' the mancs etc. I've seen Saints on each of their four visits to Wembley (F.A Cup,Charity Shield,League Cup,and The Zeta Jones Cup) but couldn't go to Totton V Truro due to falling ill on the day of the final. So this would be a good chance. Lets not forget though there are some formidable obstacles in our way though.Bournemouth away for instance ? the saint in winchester Posted 6 October, 2009 Share Posted 6 October, 2009 damn sight more realistic chance of winning this than the fa cup then! well, obviously. You could add a 0 to that for the FA Cup. I'm not saying 'don't take this seriously'. What I think is we should be able to put out a team of fringe players that could beat Torquay so as not to risk injuring our first choices for Friday's game and beyond. Later in the competition - if we're still in - then bring the big guns back. A bit like Wenger does with Arsenal, I guess.

westofshannonsaint Posted 6 October, 2009 Share Posted 6 October, 2009 (edited) Saints are in the cup, we might as well try to win it it's our only real shot at silverware in a long time and I would be delighted to see Saints win anything. As well as a great day out for the fan's it would also give our players a chance to become accustomed to Wembley & lessen the nerves IF we manage to make the playoff final (this year at least) Oh, and anyway, we don't want to go to a cup final, this place would be in melt down with all the regulars not getting tickets because of the 50,000 plastics who will suddenly want tickets. Unfortunately, that's football & I will be one of the plastic's looking for a ticket, my last game was the season before last B*ll*x i just noticed the score, we have to win this game first. edit - only 3 more games & we are in the final.... RonManager Posted 7 October, 2009 Share Posted 7 October, 2009 In the match programme it shows the Southern Section split into two Regions - East and West. If we can only play teams in the West Region, then it's either Hereford, Swindon or Northampton for us. MK Dons, Charlton and Norwich are in the East Region so at least two of those three will be gone by the area final.
