David Connelly Interview.

I'm pretty sure that was irony, right there. Jesus, you guys are so used to back-biting and infighting on here that sometimes you forget not every comment is deadly serious. Haven't you heard, it's a whole new era of peace, love and goals from open play?

Now that things are improving on the pitch and the owners are united we need to find something to fall out about.

I gave some people to much credit (apparently) as assumed a 2 year old could have spotted the irony in my initial post.....lesson learnt.

World peace and universal love between nations I can get my head around ....

:-) But scoring from open play? :-)

Ponty - the problem is that the statement is so utterly consistent with his other utterances that you can hardly blame people for assuming him to be serious. Perhaps a winky-eye thing would have given us a clue. ;-)

Interesting that Connolly says that Pardew initially said he just wanted a few days to check him out and then took four or five weeks. Reminiscent of Pardew saying in July that he needed to bring in 'one or two players' and then bringing in 8 or 9. Does Pards always underestimate issues, but does it matter as long as he makes the right judgement in the end? Connolly seems quite content.

I think these may be just 'turns of phrase' and perhaps not to be taken too literally?

Or the fact that we had a number of players just sat there using up our wages fund? At the fans forum he made it quite clear that we would have to get a few out on loan first.

Initially, the manager just said he needed a few days but I wanted to make sure and have in been in for four or five weeks. [/Quote]

I read that as it was Connolly who decided that he wanted extra time at the club before deciding that Saints were the right club for him.

This is surely a slip of the tongue and not so accurate. I've often heard people say .." wait a second.." for something that will take 5 mins. or more..!

Perhaps what he means is ; I'll take the time I want before deciding, and a maybe a bit of ..." don't ask me for a quote ..TODAY "

i think we have maybe 4 posters on here that are pompey fans. I dont want to get into names but i reckon one has posted on this thread today...

Dont want to say names because i guess i could be done for slander?

You couldn't be accused of "Slander" as that is a spoken accusation, however you could be done for "Libel" as that is

the written one :D

Or

Read that as saying Connolly hoped that a PL team or at worst a CCC team would come in for him and offer him a contract...

Who cares, he's here for the rest of the season and motivated to do well for us...

Crikey a PL quality player joins us in L1..... Hope he's better than our PL quality players we had in the CCC, great job they all did

Politics not withstanding of course

Or perhaps, like any sane person studying Saints at the start of the season, Pardew realised that the damage done by the previous regime was so bad that we would most certainly have relegated with Lowe's legacy players and therefore briefed the new owners and bought more in?

I see little underestimation from Pardew, merely diplomacy. I also see careful consideration and good opportunist buying as well as clearing out the younger failures. Gets my vote.

Sorry folks, I've been away for a while so forgive me if this has been done to death on here and point me to where I can find the info: Saga has not played more than a few minutes as a sub for a long time and now we have Connelly; why are we not using our Polish international? Thanks.

Our Polish international is a bit overweight and has been playing shi*e when he has come on.

It's no surprise no-one wanted to buy him during the transfer window

I think ye misunderstand me, I think it is a really good thing that Connolly may have taken his time before deciding to commit to saints, from the little time I have followed connelly (mainly due to his Irish eligibility) I have thought he is a committed player who is capable of earning his place in many PL or CCC squads. But he has a good attitude and took his time in making his decision. I read it as he chose Saints as he seen us as a club that were moving forward.

I would love to see DC end his playing career with Saints and earn his coaching badges with us.
