He's no way near as bad as some of you like to make out.

First red card was quite unfortunate as it was on his debut and the second one won us a point. He's far too weak to be playing centre half and needs a bit of experience before he will be good enough for us.

He's probably the one player who suffered the most from being thrown in at the deep end last season.

So he is too weak to be playing CB and he is hardly a marauding full backk, so where the hell do you suggest he plays ? Up front LOL?

Completely agree, Olly is a gifted player and he's suffered a lot from unfair treatment from the fans. Throwing him in at the deep end at CB in the CCC in a relegation side was not a good idea for a lad that had barely any first-team experience at any club. The red cards are definitely food for thought, but bear in mind that young Matt Patterson got a red card against Man Utd last season for a completely stupid challenge that was 5x worse than either of the fouls that lead to Lancashire's cards, yet people were very quick to forgive him when he poked in against Millwall in the first game of this season.

Centre back is an incredibly hard position to play compared to somewhere like on the wing or as a striker. You can put a few wild crosses in as a winger, or hit a few shots off target as a striker and people will forgive you 9 times out of 10. Do the equivalent of that as a centre back, people won't be so willing to forgive and forget. One mistimed challenge or a missed header or tackle can land you in hot water. The reason we're doing well this season at the back is the sheer experience we have at the back. Jaidi, Perry, Thomas, these are all very experienced players in the english leagues, and then we have the raw talent of Trotman, who is a very good prospect.

He does need to put the work in to improve his game, both the technical and physical aspects of it, but he certainly has the potential to be competing for a first-team place at this club in the next few years. Bear in mind he's only about 19/20, there are only a very small number of players in the english leagues who can cement their first-team place at that age and with very little experience. Not every player can be like Rooney and be a key player at the age of 17/18 or whatever he was at Everton.

Olly needs the experience and knowledge he'll gain from this loan spell to better himself as a player and grow. I, for one, wish him good luck and hope that he thoroughly enjoys his time on loan at whatever club he's going to, and that he comes back stronger and better because of it.

Oh, and he's from Basingstoke too, which makes him even better :D

Its not long ago, probably the start of last season, that many were concerned about him being lured away as the loss of another promising academy player.By the end of September many were writing OL's career off.Whilst it panics me when I hear his name in the team - Swindon this year- I'd agree that he needs a chance to develop and throwing him in as JP/RL etc did last season too early has been his undoing.Let him out on loan and monitor his development.

As for Patterson, there was nothing to forgive as his dangerous challenge was on a ManU player, just hope he tries harder next time!

Does this suggest that Aaron Martin may be seen as a squad player this season, or just that Thomas and Perry provide adequate cover for Trotman and Jaidi?

I reckon Martin will be cover for the first team. Trotman is off back to Preston in January, and unless we manage to keep hold of him for a while (which would be great) we would be left with Jaidi, Perry, Thomas, Martin and Lancashire (Out on loan potentially). Personally I would have Jaidi and a match fit Thomas at CB. Perry is getting on; Martin will provide cover for now, and I reckon he is an investment for the future. IMO of course.

I said this before if you can't make league 1 by his age then you are not good enough. He is not a talented player of league 1 or above standard. When will people realise, we used to loan players of his age to clubs in this division. He would not make it.

Bit of a shame when supporters slag off our young players trying to learn how to ply their trade.

Lancashire was bought into the side when he was not ready and it has no doubt set him back. He is not the only one.

Let us give him our best wishes for success during his loan period and that he comes back a stronger and more experienced player. He had talent and no reason why he cannot develop and make a decent living as a professional footballer.
