RedAndWhite91 Posted 25 November, 2009 Share Posted 25 November, 2009 Hopefully he would have seen what has happened to players like Surman who moved to a Premier League club. He hardly gets a game up there. There's no reason why we'd need to sell him, so at the end of the day it would be up to Lallana, and hopefully he'd see sense and stay down here. He has the potential to become a real fans favourite, and even win promotion with us, so in my opinion it would be silly for him to leave now. Matthew Le God Posted 25 November, 2009 Share Posted 25 November, 2009 (edited) Theo's parents said they wanted him to stay too. Bye Adam. We didn't have a rich owner then. Adam Lallana will only leave if he wants to go (which atm he doesn't by all accounts) OR if someone offers a HUGE amount. We don't need the money so in future whilst Liebherr is owner only player ambition will mean we sell the best players not the needs of the bank unless offered more than the player is worth. Southampton haven't been in this position before in their history where they don't need to sell for money and can turn down bids. Pardew and Cortese have stated this clearly, though perhaps not clearly enough for some Saints fans... once_bitterne Posted 25 November, 2009 Share Posted 25 November, 2009 Who was the last L1 player to be signed by a Prem team? I wouldn't imagine it has happened all that often.... If Lallana does want to go move on then it doesn't matter how much rhetoric Cortese has spouted, he will still end up being sold. The fact that we don't need the money now is neither here nor there. We didn't have to sell Bridge for the money, he left cos he wanted to leave. It's not that Cortese hasn't explained things clearly enough to the fans it's that some of us aren't gullible to take everything said by football Chairman at face value as most of it is just good old PR. I daresay those getting all excited about Cortese's words about not being a selling club anymore were the same ones who were dribbling all over Wilde's legendary Manifesto. saintsmike25 Posted 25 November, 2009 Share Posted 25 November, 2009 I'm not that fussed, good talent will unfortunately usually get sold on for a price and relating to a players ambitions but I don't think we'll get that with Adam for one or two seasons. The fact is he's happy clearly where he is and he's Southampton through and through. Under Pardew he's under a manager who clearly wants to build the team around him and he's our creative force, for instance playing Adam in the 'hole' against Norwich and recognising Lallana's talent early on as was reported by Pilchards earlier this season "PASS IT TO ****ING ADAM" was what Pardew said. Now he's scored 11 goals and having fun, and he's improving as a player, and it would take a bid of +3 million to buy him, add to the fact he'll be leaving behind many close mates within the Saints team that he's been bought up in the academy. We'll see plenty more from Adam before he moves teams which he will eventually because there's no doubting in my mind he can play at a better level than what we are. Arizona Posted 25 November, 2009 Share Posted 25 November, 2009 The owners should just give him 5 million and say "there's more where that came from" and Im sure he will stay? That's the attitude which has gotten Saints, Pompey, Leeds and countless other clubs in a huge mess in recent seasons. I'd offer him a healty but affordable deal, comparable to Lambert or Davis. If he takes it great, if he choses to leave then fair play to him. We'll spend the money on another player who does want to be here.

But in the real world we have 2+? years left on Lallana's contract and it would be dumb to let that contract wind down and then try to get the best price at a FL hearing. If we cannot get him to extend his contract we will have to sell him on when the time is appropriate. If we could get promotion to the CCC this season I would expect Lallana to be happy to stay. Would want at least £5m for him if its a premier league club How much did we eventually settle for Theo? Adam, as he is actually playing for us now, is worth at least whatever that was, because whilst Theo at 16+ was sold on his potential (sadly since bllghted by injuries), Adam (equally skilful imo) has more team experience . Adam is as important to our team building now as Theo (despite his talent) was, and perhaps it could be argued even more so..
Nineteen Canteen Posted 25 November, 2009 Share Posted 25 November, 2009 True and all will seem well until someone seeks to unsettle the lad. Let's hope that, if he has an agent, the agent is a decent one. Is there such a thing ESB as a decent agent? Are they any different to estate agents or insurance agents etc? If the golden handcuffs from some big gun come riding into town Adam Lallana will be leaving on the first stage. Footballers have to maximise their income and their agents can't afford to let the odd golden egg to go uncashed in amongst all the dross. The only way AL will stay at this club, if a big move is offered, will be through his own determined self will IMO. Personally, I think he should go if for no other reason that at the moement for every game like yesterday's he can throw in a stinker like the Brighton game that i was hoping would put a few lazy scouts off tbh - at least until the end of the season. If his head is turned and he doesn't go he could end up like Bale in the second half of the season who if I remember had a less than good last 4 months with us after his name was linked to Premiership clubs. Surman as well was never the same after his England call up although that IMO was alot to do with Nigel Pearson dropping him then asking him to play at LB. It's not the agent that needs to be good it's his family and those he confides in that need to be very tight and supportive. If they all start seeing £ signs then he is finished as a Saints player I'm sad to say. Patience and loyalty in football are not exactly common as they once were on both sides of the white line. What would there be to stop Lallana accepting the £5m and then leaving soon afterwards? (don't say his contract because no club in recent history has been able to keep an unhappy player for long) Exactly, Lallana would upset the rest of the team overnight, morale would go through the floor and the weight of the salary and resultant expectation of the fanbase and Lallana, no longer enjoying the commaradie of his teammates would be screaming 'I'm a celebrity get me out of here' a la Jordan. Pay him good money but if at this level it is seriously out of kilter with his colleagues the effect would be very detrimental and the end result would be the same - Lallana leaves. Weston Saint Posted 25 November, 2009 Share Posted 25 November, 2009 Lallana is happy. He wants to develop with Saints. Question is, if we do not get promoted and he continues to develop there comes a time when he needs a higher challenge.
