Thank **** AP was sensible enough to play our best available team and not what some "fans" thought we should do. If we had lost today we would have been the headlines, because there are no real shocks for the pundits to talk about. That would have been so embarrassing. Always thought Luton would be a tougher prospect than Northampton or Torquay, or for that matter some L1 teams. They should be a league club and are on a good run.

 

Still good to see we will be in the hat for R4, and will be the underdogs almost certainly.

The commentary said we 'stuttered into the next round'. We sounded pretty poor and maybe some of us have been deluidng ourselves about how good we are.

 

We clearly need strengthening - but at least we are in the hat for the draw.

not really..we are a bloody good league 1 team...just short of numbers...our "starting 11" is pretty strong..trouble is, the key players dont really have a rest

It is the cup 1-0 or 5-0 still the same outcome and that is we are through.

 

The FA Cup is always different to a league game, and all you have to do is get through.

 

A win and on to the Hudderfield game, and yes we wil have to pick it up, and I am sure we will.

The aim was to get into the 4th round - which we did. But Jeez - talk about doing it the hard way! We sounded dreadful for a lot of the game (especially the 2nd half) and need some new faces during January. Saved by Rickie Lambert. Thank f*ck for his services!

I had 8 bets on an accumulator today and tomorrow, Stoke, Fulham, Sunderland, Saints, Liverpool, Man U and Chelsea in the cup and Norwich in the League, all to win.

 

Just waiting on the Stoke confirmation, then it's up to 3 of the so called big 4 to win me some dosh. My mate said never bet on your own team, I proved him wrong, but I have been buttock clenching all the way through the second half.

 

Incidentally I did have Portsmouth in the accumulator too but dropped them. Bloody glad I did now! :-D

Happy to secure the win.

 

Luton are probably better than quite a few league teams and have only played once in the last two or three weeks so it was never going to be a stroll in the park.

 

Our team is a mixture of Championship standard players and distinctly average League One players. If we can replace the latter with more of the former or top League One players we'll be fine.

think we are far from the finished article so need a few players in the transfer window, but then again luton coming to st marys were the under dogs so always going to throw everything at us and its hard to play teams with that mentality, none the less we scraped through (and thats all that matters in the early stages of a cup run) so bring on the next round ...pompey would be good, or one of the big boys for a giant killing .. COYR draw taking place tomorrow

Oh well, we are through, i really couldn't care less about the FA cup this year, we get no points for it, we will not get any where near Wembley.

 

Concentrate on the league please Mr Pardew, and obviously a day out in the JPT final would be nice.

 

Hopefully we will get a nice big team away, somewhere i haven't been. Arsenal away would be lovely.

A stunning free kick (and some woeful Luton finishing :rolleyes: ) was the only difference between being in the hat and having a replay with The Hatters ;)

 

A week to regroup, and hopefully sign up a few players.

 

Please don't do the old brinkmanship to save a few bob and wait till the last minute of the last day of the month.

 

We need fresh faces now.

Well I didn't go but I feel Pardew see's something in Antonio that I don't and won't start Waigo upfront who is a perfect fast foil for Lambert (scored 7 odd goals and has been sub alot!)

 

Glad to get through, Luton are a good side and beat the top league two clubs to get here, and lets remember they won the Johnstons paint Trophy and they're on the up again. Of course they had NOTHING to lose and we did.

 

Whats needed is perhaps another striker but perhaps Patterson can do a job? and another defender and a left back, then we'll be okay I think.

Waigo has scored 1 league goal since October - thats doesnt justify a starting place in my book. The guy has potential but is very very hit & miss.

 

I wouldnt lose much sleep if we let both go and signed someone who is proven in L1.

The only difference between the 2 sides (by the sound of it) was a superb moment of top quality from Rickie Lambert. Fair play to Luton. They came & gave us a torrid time & in the end were very unlucky not to have gotten a return game at their place. Once again: thank you Mr Lambert sir!

Yeah, i agree with the overall premise of what is being said, the first 11 is pretty much a settled team sheet now for pardew, in my view it probably makes the team a little complacent and so a few new faces to spice it up a bit is vital.

 

Can't remember who said it but the 'head nail on hit' with the comment of some decent CCC players and avarage league ones, those not cutting it need to be replaced.

 

I fear for the future of spiderman and lallana if we don't look like making the playoffs and tbh i already fear for lallana's future now anyways.

 

We need at least 5 players IMO, and a big name signing would be outstanding in showing ambition.

Happy to get through - but this was a potential bananna skin waiting to happen!

 

What a difference a few days make - Colchester (our nemesis under Boothroyd) well and truly hammered by Preston. What does that say about our chances in The Championship next season? In the immortal words of Greavesy "Funny old game, Saint".

 

Not sure where we go from here?

Personally a nice home draw with Brighton in the next round would do me...or even Reading once they **** Liverpool in a minute!

 

Not too sure if new players will upset the team/squad. We need a right back and cover for Jaidi/Perry. Another striking option would be good too as without Lambert we don't score or create as many chances.

 

That lot down the road still in big trouble - financially they are walking a tight rope and with only about 10,000 (2,000 Cov fans) the supporters seem to be abandoning ship too. How long before they return to SMS? Let's hope next season after a great run culminating in a play-off Wembley win! It's all about belief and faith something people on here seem to have an abundance!

 

By the end of January I think our future will be determined - glass half full at the moment, but then again it is my second can!
