View From The Top Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 I'm hard pressed to think of a game where every section of the ground sung, shouted, screamed like that for a match. Norwich in the EPL and Wolves in the cup are up there but that was awesome yesterday. The noise when we scored was deafening.

Red And White Barmy Army Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 defos agree. i normally go closer to itchen north but even in itchen south yesterday it was absolutely unbelievable. i can't even compare yesterday to anything i've ever experienced before. dare i say it, but the atmosphere almost made up for the result... i still have a smile on my face today - we have A LOT more to look forward to than they do. Lets see if wembley can match it now.
Amesbury Saint Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 I thought the atmosphere in the 3-0 againts Pompey was also very good. More humour in the chanting yesterday
BarnetSaint Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 Mind you-it helps when both sets of fans make noise. Once again ,the skate support was absolutely woeful. Many teams who come to SMS with less fans, support their team better than the skates. Was briliant the way the Northam and Kingsland corner united in chanting and this spread right along the kingsland and beyond. Awesome.

Saint_clark Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 Yes, but it did shut them up each time though. Exactly. We weren't chanting it for the TVs or the fans of other clubs, we were chanting it to shut the skates up.

St Landrew Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 the trouble was that the "pay up pompey" just come across on tv as the skates making a lot of noise Yeah, it did sound as if the Pompey supporters were just singing their Play Up Pompey song. Leaving the L out of Play, doesn't come across well in a big crowd. Come to think of it, do Pompey sing anything else..?

niceandfriendly Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 A real shame the Skates didn't join in with any singing, but the atmosphere was still electric. I loved it when the Itchen/chapel corner & Chapel stand started the Stand up if you love the Saints - that was seriously loud. I was sat in the Kingsland/Northam corner and it was very impressive. Pilchards Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 I find it difficult to judge the atmosphere as there is always noise in your own block to notice it elsewhere. The only way I woud believe it was good is if the Pompey fans on there forum said we was loud or the players in the middle say it was deafening. Big Ron fan Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 Not the best atmosphere for me, Norwich was a different league, also the first time we played pompey at SMS Sheff Utd when we won to stay up and Derby in the play-off were louder I reckon. Rocker268 Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 I wasn't able to make it yesterday but the Sheff Utd game when we stayed up has been my favourite. I couldn't believe when the nearly all of the The Chapel stood up when the chant started. There was a really great atmosphere - everyone was up for it yesterday. I saw this old boy and his wife giving it all on "There's only one team in Hampshire", both out of their seats, yelling it out and gesticulating to the skates. Amazing ! doddisalegend Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 I think maybe some of those that normally sit in the Northam where spread around the ground yesterday I know I was sat next to some who said they normally sat in the Northam they started the songs off and everyone else joined in. I've never heard so much noise for a goal being scored than Lambert's yesterday. Despite the score I thought yesterday was great my eight year old had his first derby yesterday and although his been to st Marys quite a few times he looked rather shell shocked yesterday(not to metion a being little embarassed by his old man going nuts when we scored)

SaintNick89 Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 First time ever i was in the Chapel/Itchen corner today, (Normally in Northam or Itchen north) and was impressed with the noise that we made. As soon as the Northam could be heard everyone was joining in straight away. We even managed to start off stand up if you love the saints which was amazing! My mate was in the posh seats and she says some people up there were crying because of how loud the stadium was after our goal lol

John Boy Saint Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 I have to say the best ever Derby game atmosphere at SMS was the League Cup night game, we had not played them for years so all of that pent up rivalry came out from 3 and a quarter sides of the ground all enhanced by the game being under the floodlights; it certainly made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. The last quarter of the Norwich game when the faint chance of staying up was at stake will also remain stored in the memory. As will the night game with Newcastle towards the end of the 2003/4 season I think the result was 3-3, Alan Blayney in for Niemi made a stunning double save from Shearer, the ground was jumping that night. StDunko Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 I was really impressed with all four stands getting involved in the singing. I hope people remember how good it felt to have the stadium rocking. If we even reproduce half that volume for the rest of the league games this season, I'll be happy. SFC Forever Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 For sheer quality of sound all around the ground it is hard to think of a better game. I remember the party at leyton when barring a miricle we won promotion for the first time to Division 1. The second half was pure celebration for both sets of fans. For emotion though MLT scoring the last goal at the Dell has always taken pride of place. A legend in our time and still so obviously a Saint. St Landrew Posted 14 February, 2010 Share Posted 14 February, 2010 I thought the old Premiership result against Manure 1-0, when Beatts did his 50p header was a bit special, atmosphere wise. And the 3-2 against Arsenal, i.e. Niemi triple save and Tinman's one in off his bum, was a bit good too.
Hemel Saint Posted 15 February, 2010 Share Posted 15 February, 2010 Well even the Skates thought we were loud... >>>I was there yesterday, and must give those scummers some credit, they were very vocal and loud. however made a schoolboy error.... whenever we sang a song, they would chime in with their own version of the same song. Thus making it sound like us singing all along. I agree that when loosing at 3-1 they started walking out,...loosers which lead us to my favourite chant of the day. "Is there a fire drill, is there a fire drill"...quality. http://thepompeychimes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=55390 Mind you another knob wrote this.... >> Geeez! the skates were so quiet because they got drowned out by been outsung by SAINTS from the left and right of them. I have got to say till they scored their 3rd, that was the quietest away support for 4,000 seen down at SMS. We rocked the place on Saturday. Well done everyone! Itchen North. Welcome back!
