Pulis

Possibly the worst player ever to don a Saints shirt IMO. Shockingly out of his depth and I don't usually slate Saints players but for this lad I make an exception - he really is dross. He came onto the pitch with about 20 minutes to play yesterday and he touched the ball THREE times, one of which was a 'shot' that he shanked so badly the pigeons in the roof were disturbed.

OK, perhaps me and my Nephew blinked and missed a kick...so perhaps it was four times he touched the ball. But he fannies around in midfield doing a kind of poor Wotton impression while the game completely passes him by. He runs like he's (still) got something stuck his @rse. How he get's his name onto the 1st team roster is beyond me - someone is doing somebody a HUGE favour - must be, there's no other rational explanation.

As much as he clearly is'nt cut out for it, starting to feel a tad sorry for the lad, constantly having a new arsehole torn. He is a Saints player so I wont 'go to town' on him whilst he sports our shirt. We all know he is'nt good enough, we have since day one but we really dont need the same post after post destroying him.

Granted; we can moan and groan about him being a saints player and taking up wages etc but stop ripping the bloke apart, I get the impression its getting nasty just because he is ****.

Doesnt Pulis' contract run out at the end of August? tbh I've never seen him play, but he has had a few runouts this summer. Is that because AP is going to keep him on, or to give him a chance to show somebody, somewhere that he could do a job at another club?

We really need another thread slating this guy don't we! He wont be here after his contract expires in the next few weeks anyway so what really is the point? I think everyone agree's he is not up to it but time to move on eh.

Cannot understand putting him on even in a friendly if he is that bad.

I know some people on here think that friendlies are meaningless but why play a player who is simply not good enough and no part of any future plans.

Maybe Pardew just wanted to satisfy himself that he really is not up to standard before releasing him.

These training games are the most football he's gonna get, and I think AP is trying to help him on his way with only a month left..not so much in the shop window but more likely the car boot sale... Renewal of contract? .....NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pardew said in his post-match interview that considering the number of injuries we have at the minute, he needed to protect the remaining first-team players for next Saturday, hence six or seven youngsters finishing yesterday's game.

Do you know anything about the squad? Check out how old Pulis is, then comment again! Suffice to say, if he has progressed to his current level when at the peak of his professional career age-wise, then I think it's time he hangs his boots up and gets a proper job.

And for all those that say enough is enough - NO IT'S NOT! I paid good money to go see the ONLY home friendly game of the close season and I expected the club to play a team of decent footballers, even if that meant playing some of the best Academy guys. At least the youngsters had a go - Pulis was so poor and contributed so little that to be honest he was just a spectator - the freakin' ball boys saw more action! He has done nothing to deserve that amount of time on the pitch at SMS and I truly hope that he is released as soon as possible.

I was told AP was handing out draw tickets Thursday and Pulis hand a winning ticket.
!

Well, thanks for confirming this Toomer. That makes him a bad boy in my books..fancy depriving some under-privileged kid of a chance to meet his heroes and step out onto the holy turf.

I'm well aware that Pulis isn't a youngster, the point I'm making is that Pards had to use the youngsters and players such as AP to protect the remaining first-team players. Would be a blow to lose another midfielder to injury with Plymouth just around the corner. Make no mistake about it, Pulis will be released at the end of August, and I'm not justifying this guys position at our club for one second.

unless of course the "option of another year" is his and not the clubs. Somewhat surprising we have bothered to give him a squad number if he was leaving, and also if he was to be released then wouldn't it have been the decent thing to do that at the start of the summer, enabling him the maximum time to find a new club?

Where can we buy the "I saw Pulis play at SMS T-Shirts?"

Has to be up there with the lucky few who saw Claus (or Benali) score.

He has a good head on him. He read the game and made sure he moved quickly to cover gaps spaces and angles. Seemed more mobile than Wotton towards the end.

Damn shame he seemed to be covering space when we were attacking with the ball,.....

Seemed to be a totally trained automaton with a total ability to be where the ball was not.

Unfortunately, IMHO he wasn't the only one of the subs with that problem, young Doble managed the same trick of being in the right place at teh wrong time.

Still What a moment, will dine out on that one for years to come.

That's probably the best description I've seen. He was nearly 10 yards from ANYTHING at all times, and he also got a nice big chunk of Reading player shirt in the box the only time he did get near anyone, and should have conceded a penalty for it.

One of the least effective footballers I've ever seen, and I've now seen him play about 5 times. The ball goes all around him because his teammates know he's useless, and the opposition go all around him because he's useless.

I'm also not quite sure about this "he signed in August so his contract expires in August" thing. All football contracts of over one year expire on July 1 - he had a 3rd year option when he signed, and he has a squad number, so I'm expecting he'll be lurking until next summer, unless we can persuade some suckers to take him off our hands or talk him into an early release.

Absolutely the physical embodiment of what's wrong with the culture of football. It ain't what you know..., and once you've proved you can stick the training you can sit out a contract in the reserves and then usually get another one a division below until you eventually run out of options. That's a 7 or 8 year career of getting found out - if you're lucky enough to start high enough. I bet he was a really tall kid aged 11 though.

The thing is, what must the other players make of him? Running joke within the squad? Surely they'd question his involvement a bit?

Heard a rumour his contract is up next month

This maybe why he has been playing so much in an attempt to find him a team

"Heard a rumour" ? It's been posted on here about 3000 times - I even mentioned it in this thread. Still not convinced it's true either, he had a 2 year deal in 2008 with the possibility of a one year extension, I'm fairly sure it would either have ended on 30 June 2010 (clearly not) or it will end on 30 June 2011. If he mysteriously disappears later this month I'll be very surprised.

That is a very good point and a situation I had not considered or given any thought to. I know contracts can be complex but surely there has to be a get out on Saints side to not extend especially when a player has not played a first team match in two years. I agree with you on all counts it just does not add up that we are releasing him so I would love to know the details of why.

It just does not add up that he will be released in August so I think you must be right. What shocks me is if he did get his extension then the criteria for him to get the extension was definitely not based on 1st team performance.

I think we should get Pulis (Senior) to negotiate ALL of Saints deals

Because he certainly stitched us up when he got his son one
