Who's going to Hartlepool

Will make a decision on Friday morning whether or not we pick up the 2 x 9 seaters Friday evening we are hiring as once we have picked them up will be liable for payment. Its not going to be a cheap trip so hope by Friday we will either be told officially the game will be off or we will make the decision ourselves whether to travel or not. They called the game of against Yeovil yesterday at 1.30 so have a lot of sympathy for the Yeovil fans that did travel.

Having seen that I'm quite confident the game will be on good stuff. Don't panic carry on with your travel arrangements and get your match tickets.

We will be going..... hopefully, that forecast looks promising in the way of higher temperatures to melt the ice/snow but whether it happens in such a short period, who knows! COYR!

....or are they to allow people to declare their "super fan" status despite using an anonymous user name?

Obviously that's the only reason someone would start or post in this thread ...

Every thread on here gets turned into a big negative **** fest within about 15 posts these days.

I've got a dilemma ... Got a ticket and a hotel reservation in Newcastle sat night. I'll lose 40 quid unless I cancel the hotel by thurs. If I cancel assuming games off and it's on, I'll lose the 20 notes for the ticket. Thinking of leaving hotel and if it's off going up anyway for a day/night on the lash in Newcastle.

I have just booked my match ticket and am just waiting to hear back about the travel as it sure would be cheaper to go by coach rather than the train as it costs something like £80 return to and from where I live but I Will Be There no matter how I get there!

Also what is the best pub for away fans as I am thinking of getting a pre match drink and preferably one with other Saints fans in as well but then if not then I'l just get one in the ground?!

Thanks!

Bring It On!

I assume when everyone is looking at the weather report, they're ignoring the actual temperatures.

Friday night it's going to be -5c and reach a max of -2c during Saturday, the main problem won't be snow but will be a frozen pitch.

the weather forecasts are totally unpredictable as well, if you look at today's forecast (see above) and the observed temperature 30 miles away in real time you'll see a discrepancy already of -3°. The old forecasters tend to be a bit optimistic, they forecast 4°c for here today, it's actually about -5° with a foot or so of snow on the ground.

If the hotel has plenty of availability and can be re-booked on the day for the same price then cancel on thursday and re-book on saturday for the same price.

still potential for a good night out in Newcastle, from my experience there are plenty of larger ladies available to keep you warm on a cold night!!

i'm really hoping this game is on so as not to waste money on train tickets, but it isn't looking good based on the freezing temperatures quoted by Rees above

I have just gone and collected my ticket for the game and I spoke to one of the ticket office ladies who was dealing with the tickets and I asked her about the travel situation for the game and she said that there's something like 5 other people as well as me for the coach for the game and she said that she's actually not sure that whether the game Will Go Ahead Or Not but lets just wait and see what happens in the next few days!

I hope this information is OK for people who are thinking/going to the game like me!

Thanks!

And we will be out in Newcastle where you have to go in shirt sleeves. :scared:

Looking at the forecast today, it appears to be for light snow today and tomorrow (meh) and then temperatures up to 2 or 3 degrees, which is more than adequate for a thaw.

The minus 5 temperature at night on Thursday is a bit of a concern, but its followed by a sunny (if sub-zero) Friday and a sleety 2 degree Saturday, which is unlikely to sustain any already-laid snow. If they don't call it off on Friday I think it'll be on, it's on the coast so the salty air will assist the thaw as well.

Having said all that, Hartlepool's been bloody freezing every time I've ever been there.

BBC Weather shows Friday having a high of -1, and let's face it Adkins is going to want to know if the game is on before the team travels after what happened to yeovil.

I reckon they'll have to call it off tomorrow morning.

Thursday morning? I bet you they don't call it off anywhere near that early.

For what it's worth I reckon it should be on.

The game was off last Saturday - I believe because of a frozen pitch?

It hasn't got any warmer since then with double figure minus temperatures at night locally. There is plenty of snow falling too so I think I would put money on the game not going ahead this Saturday.

I know it's only Wednesday - but the chaos at the moment makes travelling hazardous!

I meant Friday morning. Temperatures haven't gone above 2 in a few days and fans would have to travel across 300+ miles of icy roads to get to a ground which doesn't have great weather-proof facilities. What could possibly make you think this game should go ahead?

I sent them an email yesterday asking whether they will call it off earlier than Saturday afternoon, as obviously we don't want to travel if it's not on, and received the following reply:

Good Morning

We are in receipt of your recent email regarding the above.

Please be advised we are doing everything we can to ensure the game goes

ahead on Saturday, we are liaising with Southampton FC on a daily basis

regarding the updated weather forecasts and the most recent updates can

be seen on our website http://www.hartlepoolunited.co.uk.

Best Regards

Interesting read of their annual statement there, turnover 3.04 million, player salaries 2.11 million.

Works out at an average wage of about 1600£ a week and their revenue (if it all came from gate receipts, which it doesn't) comes to about 100K per home game.....and they're only somewhere between 5 and 2 points behind us. What the flip are we doing wrong.

If it's not frozen between 3-5pm on Saturday would be enough grounds for me. The infrastructure will be sorted by then, we're crap at initially responding to snow in Britain but after a few days we're as used to it as anyone, and the major roads are all open.

Don't forget as well that a layer of snow actually insulates the ground against frost and prevents the ground freezing, which is one of the reasons snow clearances tend to be left to the morning of the match.

Two degrees is perfectly warm enough for a thaw, especially if there's sleet which speeds the whole process up.

A good theory unless the ground was already frozen before the snow fell on it,which is often the case. When it's like that the snow melts at any significant positive temperature but the ground is still frozen so the water can't seep away, causes surface flooding as

often as not.

Arranged a weekend in London for MK game at the start of the season - game postponed.

Arranged a weekend in Newcastle for the Hartlepool game - looks like the game will be postponed.

Should still be a good weekend in Newcastle even if the football is called off, our backup plan of going to watch some Cage Fighting is also down the pan as that was cancelled today because of the weather.

I am worried we might not even be able to fly because of the weather.

As the weather forecast has now significantly changed AGAIN, and a mate of mine in the North East is bemoaning the mental amount of snow expected overnight, I am hastily backtracking and now think the game is very likely to be called off, possibly the day before.
