feel sorry for Wayne Bridge

.yes it is Saints related as he's a former local lad, and a well-respected, star player in our 2000+ Premiership days...even 90K a week (it seems) won't necessarily make you a happy man. Reports say he's on the move again ..to a struggling Villa side, and it seems that he's had a difficult time ever since he left.

At Chelsea, he was up against two team-mates ;

Ashley Cole battling for a team place and an international spot. then a devastating injury and then John Terry for " previously over-publicised personal problems." - not to mention a manager who didn't like his defenders "attacking style" of play.

(Gareth Bale had the same trouble at Spurs with a similar manager - before Harry arrived to give him a proper chance).

Now Mancini is likely to get rid of him, too. If Wayne moves ..again, he may hopefully start to get a change of footballng fortune.

Good Luck Wayne.

Bridgey decided not to be a footballer when he settled for being 2nd choice at a big club for the past 6 years during what should have been the best years of his career, as well as being in the papers for the girls he's dating all the time. Haven't got much time for him any more to be honest.

Poor lad, gutted for him, £90,000+ a week and ****ging a famous pop star off some girl group.

Tough life.

Beat me to it, so no point reposting.

He will still be earning mega wonga, enjoyiong his social life and playing in the top flight, so can't see why we should be that sorry for him. Now if he had had a career shortening injury or a loss in his personal life, then that would be a different story. He's made a decent wedge, represented his country, plyed his trade in the top flight and won some silverware, something that thousands of footballers (and millions of us ordinary idiots) could only dream about.

This - lost any respect for him as a footballer when he signed a new contract at Chelsea with Ashley Cole already there. Could have pushed for a regular England spot but lost any chance when he effectively showed he was happy to play second best. But then maybe 90k a week is more important than playing week in week out.

I guess you're about right. The days when there was much competition for places seems long gone..whatever you think about Beckham..at least HE has a little ambition left.

Wayne was great for us, record number of consequetive games while he played for us, or something like that. Unfortunately since he got his 'big move' his focus seems to have been lost somewhat, and appears happy to play second fiddle to others. It's sort of the same as Michael Owen at Man U - in most other clubs he would probably be a regular starter - but he appears happy to sit and take the money.

Sad really, I really liked Bridgey when he played for us, but since his move(s) he appears more happy to have been payed as opposed to have been played.

I don't think I've watched Bridge play over the last 5 years or so, and not feared for him every single time he gets the ball in a defensive position. He always looks to me like he's scared of the ball, which considering how much he's played over that time, he probably is. Whatever ability he had is gone now, and I doubt very much that a change of team will do anything to bring it back.

This. He decided that money was more important than playing. Thus is why F365 refer to him as a 'former' footballer.

Plus, if you've ever met him, he's a *****.

Oh well ..that makes it alright then.. I suppose (?).

All my sympathies for out-of-luck footballers, sitting on the bench is obviously misplaced!

90k a week for training? Yeah he's really fallen on hard times! Much as I like Bridgey and do look out for hows he doing I don't have any sympathy for his situation I'd happily take half his wage for the year let alone a week!

I don't feel sorry for him at all! He's a guy who has never, since he left Saints, really worked to maximize his potential. He has coasted. He has taken the money, and not cared about being a back-up player. If he had really been interested in making the most of himself, he'd never have signed a new deal with Chelsea after they got Ashley Cole. He'd have forced a transfer to a club where he'd be first choice, and then worked to show Chelsea they were wrong. Instead, he took the money to sit on the bench. And he has gotten paid a sh*tload of money for turning up to train & then sitting on the bench. Why would you feel sorry for him?? What's to feel sorry about? He has to be the luckiest so-and-so in professional football: paid like a superstar for years, while never performing at superstar level!

He's never been a great player since he left Saints because he hasn't been arsed to be: he took the money and ran. To hell with feeling sorry for him!

He might be a local lad and an ex-Saint, but I really don't feel "sorry" for him. He's played a lot of top-flight football, earned a shed load of cash which will see him through comfortably until death, if it's been invested and not spoofed on material rubbish. There's nothing wrong with competition either!

Good luck to him if he goes to Villa, would rather he was here, but that's not going to happen in the next year or so is it really? Certainly never on those wages!!

Its funny how you all seem to have forgotten his celebration when he scored against pompey...

Eh? Im aware of his celebration and thakn him for it; just like Im thankful for the time he spent as a Saints player... but that doesnt make me feel sorry for the way his career has gone after he started to chase the cash rather than play the game.
