Fitzhugh Fella Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 The Football Echo says rested, but I am not sure. I guess we will find out on Tuesday. I would keep Bart in. He lacks presence - at this point in his career at any event. And his kicking is awful.
shurlock Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Think Bart should start and Butterfield is a no brainer - always looked for the pass, was comfortable when Nani came on (and you would have expected him to have been cream-crackered by then) and some of his crosses e.g. Guly's header were excellent. ottery st mary Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Horses for courses..but would not harm to give Bart another game..confidence and all that.. would play the attacking full back and AOC wide right to tie up their attacking left back ..Butters/Rich will be able to have a lot more of an attacking evening.. Pity Hammond is not fit..would help with his bite in the middle..Jimmy Case out of retirement.. Hope Spiderman and Chappers fit and up for it... We should win 3-0/4-
Liquidshokk Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Thought Bart did really well yesterday. Feel more comfortable with him in goal at the moment. Also agree about butterfield. Never understood why majority don't seem to rate him and I'd choose him before Richardson everytime. Richardson is good at winning the ball in defence but when he takes it forward he seems to play the wrong pass or take too long on the ball. Butterfield wins it, looks up and plays it well. surrey1saint Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 (edited) Neither of our keepers are faultless, thats why they are in L1. S-Clarke Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 I don't think there's much between either keeper, they're pretty equal really. Davis will come back in on Tuesday and regain the captains armband. It was nice to give Bart a run out in a game like that though.
Deppo Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Bart's distribution and kicking is poor. Most of his clearances didn't make the halfway line yesterday, which is a dangerous weakness to have, particularly against a team that will sit quite high up the pitch. Clifford Nelson Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 I am not one of KD's greatest detractors, but he makes me nervous rooted on the spot instead of catching crosses. Bart also makes me nervous, mainly because I sense a lack of command. Whatever NA decides I'm sure it will be a decision about what is best for the team. Since he is an ex-goalkeepter himself he will be more aware than I about both KD's and Bart's shortcomings. After yesterday I'm sure that we are all agreed that the clubs best fullbacks are Harding and Butters. The other two wouldn't have come near the performances we saw yesterday. £50K for Chaplow is very good business, but having Harding on a free must surely be one of the best signings ever. Most of his clearances didn't make the halfway line yesterday, which is a dangerous weakness to have, particularly against a team that will sit quite high up the pitch. Exactly right, not to mention that the second goal was an indirect result of a poor decision by Bart. He is a decent player but there's no way he's better than KD, no way at all. Also agree with those praising Butterfied. I've said all along that his ball play is much better than Richardson's and his delivery into the box is superb. He got skinned by Nani once but Nani has been one of the best players in the Premier League this year.
benjii Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 But it's not a out being flawless, it's about being better than Davis and they both havevtheir faults. Barts faults occur far more often though.

VectisSaint Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Bart's kicking was woeful. Davis get slated for his distribution, but he is far far better than Bart at that part of the game. Strange really, apart from distance I thought Bart's kicking yesterday was much better than Davis generally, nearly always found a Saints player and I don't recall one of his kicks finding touch. His distribution generally is more intelligent, mixing it up, bowling it out sometimes to the full back and not always playing the giant hopeful hoof down the middle that KD tends to use 95% of the time. Bart is also more assured from corners and has better management of his defenders and their positioning. KD is a better shot stopper, of that there is little doubt, but with a run of games under his belt and not just an occassional run out, Bart will in my opinion blossom into a better all round keeper than KD. KD still makes me nervous, whereas I feel quite relaxed with Bart between the sticks, and it seems to rub off on the players as well. Very difficult for young keepers, they tend to mature later (in terms of their profession). We are fortunate to probably have the best 2 keepers in the division, but not sure how long we will be able to hang on to both, Bart will feel the need for 1st team football very soon (again, as he already looked to leave last season), would be a travesty if he left now after all these years, but wouldn't surprise me just as he is getting to be fully ready. Bit like Poke, let go just as he was coming to goalkeeper maturity, proved how good he could be during his loans at Torquay.

Most of his clearances didn't make the halfway line yesterday, which is a dangerous weakness to have, particularly against a team that will sit quite high up the pitch. Utter tosh! The majority of Bart's distribution were long throws, or throws out to the full backs, that I've watched Barts distribution closely when he has played this season, and this method has been far more effective than Kelvin's Hoofing, which more than often find the opposition. The was the odd moment of panic yesterday granted, a few of his kicks do go astray, but no different from having KD in goal. Bart should be given a run of games, hes never done alot wrong imo. If he gets time to get his confidence up he could be a great keeper for us over the next couple of seasons.

shurlock Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 See that City just done by the same routine County used against us - striker blocking/backing into keeper before whipping the ball in for a near post header. At the time KD was blamed for not commanding his box - if anything the foul against him was more flagrant.
derry Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 After his display last week Kelvin Davis should have been dropped, which would have happened to any outfield player displaying the same level of incompetence. As far as I am concerned if he never played for Saints again it would be too soon for me.The three wise monkeys Kelvin Davis fan club is on here in force. The man is a walking disaster of a goalkeeper as demonstrated last week. The defence looked much more comfortable with Bialkowski and apart from a dodgy short pass in the second half was solid. As for Davis saving the second goal, not on the evidence of last week he wouldn't. If he comes back he could yet cost us promotion with his idiosyncratic interpretation of goalkeeping. Barry the Badger Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 Derry, why is it that anybody who disagrees with you has to be a part of the 'Kelvin Davis fan club'? I do think we should look for another keeper in the summer, but I really don't think Bart is the answer. In the meantime Davis is the best we have, and is a good keeper for this division. aintforever Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 It is a tough call for Adkins because both are decent keepers and if he drops Davis and Bart has a mare then he would knock both players' confidence. Kelvin's reluctance to come off his line would tip it in favor of Bart for me, I think he has cost us more points than most people realise. david in sweden Posted 30 January, 2011 Share Posted 30 January, 2011 to be fair, he didn't have so much to do -except pick the ball out of the net twice, but he did look rather slow on his feet. I don't know what weight he is , but he ought to be more mobile. Maybe not his fault, but comes from being an " occasional " goalie who plays two games a month with the "U21" side..
