St. Mary's will host Premier League opposition on Wednesday 27th July when West Bromwich Albion visit the south coast for a 7.45pm kick-off.

The Baggies finished 11th in the top flight last term with 46 points, and manager Roy Hodgson will bring his team to St. Mary's ahead of his first full season in charge of the club after taking over from Roberto Di Matteo in February of this year.

Three days later, Saints will travel to Yeovil Town for a friendly against the League One outfit who held Nigel Adkins' men to a 1-1 draw on our last trip to Huish Park last season.

I nearly had a bit of a preseason fixture myself this afternoon while walking across the playing fields with my kids, a bunch of footy mad 10 years olds came up to us and issued a invitation to join in with their game - looking me up and down they said "we promise we won't be to hard on you mister"

Children can be very cruel you know ......

Eastleigh and .....Cheltenham

That would do nicely, says he in Gloucestershire.

WBA at Home and Yeovil away

27th and 30th of July

Yeovil away, so be it.

West Brom at home ? B0ll0cks. Is that meant to be remotely attractive ? Personally I do not regard any prem team as a remote attraction .

He's the one on the left, this was his old profile photo, since then he replaced it with some Saints ones, and now has one without any football associations in it !

Are you for real? I haven't seen any Smurfs since Sheffield Utd away. Sep 07.

(Well apart from meeting Dubai Phil at London Bridge before the Charlton game.)

From the point of view of preparation for the season West Brom is ideal. They're pretty much the level we need to be at to gain promotion from the Championship to the Prem, and at a level that frankly I would expect to kick our butts (assuming they play a full strength team). Of course a thrashing by WBA isn't as attractive to fans as a thrashing by Juventus but a hell of a lot more valuable.

Who is this Jordan Sibley mug.

One of Corteses yes men who i think under the old regime used to work in the club shop (although that might be the other one whose name escapes me for now, Leighton something?) He's has achieved celebrity status though due to some of the mugs on here hanging onto his every word and wetting themselves everytime he puts something on twitter.

we expect us to play a team like inter, or barca or bayern...for no other reason than to match my expectations of the clubs ambition...

if not, I will write an open letter on here of my disgust at the lack of ambition shown by the club...

first printer-gate and now this...ffs

I agree Jamie and am seriously underwhelmed but WBA and Yeovil. Playing Barcelona, AC Millan etc now would be give the players extra motivation and would also be good preperation for when we are in the champions league.

Does it say more about the ambition of WBA and Yeovils board though? The fact they've been able to obtain a glamour friendly against the new Barcelona and Ac Milan and Bayern haven't? I think we might be witnessing the start of a shift in the power of European football.

There will be more games but what is the point of trying to beat a continental team when we want to get up to speed in beating Championship sides? WBA will be a good test to see how far we have come - but we will be 10-days away from starting the season and guess they will be a few games behind us in fitness stakes.

Perhaps with out Italian connections we will go there for a pre-season? Do not think Sweden/Scandinavia ever got us prepared properly - perhaps some Irish or Scottish teams to give the mighty army a chance to follow the pre-season without costing a fortune?

Whatever I just get this positive feeling we are going to break our first game of the season hoo-doo - I forecast a win where ever & who ever we play! The last win was ages ago - from memory 1-0 at Coventry scorer Egil Ostenstat in the 89th minute...that's how long it has been.

In Nigel and the squad I believe...stepping up a league is more than promotion it's about maintaining the momentum started when Adkins joined.

Ties against the big European tems are a joke - Leicester have Real Madrid lined up and so far welcoming it, many think its smacks of short-termism and a lack of seriousnes, a stunt pulled by owners with a low boredom threshold who want to enjoy their glitzy new plaything regardless of what is good for the club in the long-term.

West Brom at SMS and Yeovil away.

Must be a typo - these two teams are not non league! Don't worry Eastleigh, Farnborough, Salisbury, Poole Town and not forgetting the Swedish under 16 lumberjacks second 11 will be on the fixture list in time for end of July.......lol
